That's How We Necromancers Do Things
Chapter 414 - 136: Mommy! You’re Both My Good Moms
'What did that kid do to deserve this? How could he get a Netherworld Demigod and the Song of Elune to fight over being his mother?'
'I don't get it~ I just don't get it!'
'Waaaah~~ My soul is in such agony~~'
Just as Lynch expected, Brutalus's remnant soul still had a sliver of rationality left, but not much.
Meanwhile, the acting from Lynch's two "mothers" was off the charts. Not only were they perfectly in sync, but they were also improvising and adding their own flair to the performance.
While taunting the Moon Priestess, Pale Elegy secretly sent a mental message to Lynch. "How are my lines, little mouse?"
The Moon Priestess, her expression cold, unleashed a Moonlight Special Move while retorting just as sharply, "Don't you dare taint my son with your filthy Netherworld aura!"
Lynch watched, dumbfounded, and couldn't help but mutter to himself.
'Their argument is a little too real... If I hadn't written the script myself, I might have actually believed it.'
He had to admit, when beings who had lived for countless years decided to act, their performances were simply off the charts—utterly convincing.
Of course, Lynch didn't rule out the possibility that they genuinely couldn't stand each other and were letting some real feelings slip into their act.
In any case, the battle was an earth-shattering affair.
A silver moon and a sea of blood intertwined in the sky as moonlight and deathly energy collided, engulfing a third of the dark Ancient Battlefield.
The entrance to the sanctuary ruins was smashed to pieces. The massive stone gate collapsed and the pillars fractured, nearly burying Lynch and the others in a spray of shattered rock.
Fortunately, neither of them was in her complete form; they were merely projections of condensed soul and energy. Had their true bodies been fighting here, the entire Ancient Battlefield would have likely been razed to the ground.
"You wench! You couldn't even protect your own followers back then. What right do you have to teach my son, Lynch?!" Pale Elegy shrieked, waving her folding fan to unleash a storm of blood-red blades.
"It's better than being an old bat hiding in the Netherworld, afraid of the light," the Moon Priestess retorted, lashing out with her Moonlight Whip. The strike shattered the void, scattering silver light. "What can you teach my son, other than the path of slaughter?"
"Better than being a rigid old virgin!"
"Who are you calling an old virgin?!"
As the fight wore on, both of their projections grew increasingly faint, looking as if they were about to dissipate at any moment.
Pale Elegy's elegant dress was in tatters, and several ribs of her parasol were broken. Her projection had become so transparent it was nearly invisible.
Meanwhile, the Moon Priestess's moon-white robes were stained with streaks of blood. The Moonstone atop her scepter was cracked, and her form was as ephemeral as a candle flickering in the wind.
But even so, they didn't let up on their verbal assault, continuing to expose each other's past failures and hurl insults.
"You... COUGH, COUGH." Pale Elegy coughed up a mouthful of soul-blood. "If you had just been willing to swallow your pride and beg that Druid back then, you wouldn't have ended up with your soul scattered to the winds..."
"Shut up!" The Moon Priestess was also on the verge of collapse. "You filthy Vampire... If you're so powerful, why do you do nothing but hide in the Netherworld...?"
"Still stronger than you..."
"No, you..."
The two "struggled" to face off, looking as if they might annihilate each other in the next second.
Seeing this, Brutalus, who had been hiding in the shadows and spying on the battle from afar, felt his Soul Body tremble with excitement.
"Heh heh heh... Song of Elune... you wench... finally... you're finally done for..."
The Song of Elune's weakness presented an opportunity. Its remnant soul, consumed by hatred and madness, could no longer hold back.
That damned High Elf Priest had used a Half-Divine Artifact to obliterate its physical body, leaving it as a mere remnant soul, barely clinging to existence.
What's more, the Demigod Vampire from the Netherworld was also a spent force.
'First, I'll finish off that wench, the Song of Elune... and devour her remnant soul... then I'll consume that soul with the Netherworld aura...' Brutalus's pitch-black Soul Body churned as greed and savagery swelled in its mind. 'Then... then I'll take over that boy's soul... I can... I can be reborn...'
It could hold back no longer. It floated out from the dark Abyss like a wisp of twisted black smoke, silently slinking through the shadows of the crumbling ruins.
Its hunter's instinct and the last dregs of its sanity compelled it to keep a low profile. It didn't dare summon the raging Ghosts that roamed the battlefield.
'What if I startle them and those two wenches get away?'
It could only rely on its familiarity with the battlefield and its overwhelming hatred and greed for the Song of Elune to draw near in silence.
'Song of Elune... wench...'
This was the only thought left in its consciousness.
At the same time, the moon-white figure was becoming clearer and clearer in its perception.
She seemed even weaker now than before.
It could see her tattered priest's robes, the cracked Moonstone on her scepter, and could even feel the sense of imminent collapse emanating from her Soul Body.
'Devour her. If I devour her, I can recover some of my power!'
Brutalus's remnant soul trembled with extreme excitement. Amid the surging black energy, it finally crept to within a hundred feet of the Moon Priestess's back.
For a being of its level, this was a guaranteed kill distance.
"Die!"
Brutalus's remnant soul could no longer hold back. It transformed into a bolt of black lightning and lunged forward, opening its cavernous maw to viciously devour the Moon Priestess.
