That's How We Necromancers Do Things
Chapter 399 - 134: Promotion! Lynch is Tier Three
Chapter 399: Chapter 134: Promotion! Lynch is Tier Three
Olivia and Lilith considered this for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
Although they had arrived in Lakefront Town at different times, they had gradually integrated into the community. They had witnessed firsthand how everyone, including themselves, was striving to make the town a better place.
As for Catherine the Holy Knight and Avril the Holy Light Priest, however, they couldn’t help but feel a little lost.
According to the doctrines they had learned, the teacher should have been right. But... upon further reflection, they found her words absurd and even laughable.
Lakefront Town had grown from nothing to what it was today, yet they had never once seen the Lord of Holy Light so much as glance their way.
Instead, it was an ancient Legend of the Elf Race, and even that Demigod from the Netherworld, who had helped Lakefront Town—and Lynch had paid a price for all of it.
Lynch was very pleased by his companions’ reactions.
’After following me for so long, they’ve finally started to break free from their mental shackles and think for themselves.’
"Blasphemy! This is blasphemy!" The teacher’s face went pale with rage as she pointed at Lynch. "How dare you deny the grace of the Lord of Holy Light?!"
"Blasphemy?" A cold smile touched Lynch’s lips. "You’re lecturing a Necromancer on blasphemy. Ma’am, Esther and Dragon Flame are my children. On my land, no one gets to threaten to burn them to death, not even in words."
He waved his hand, his tone turning cold. "Since you’re so devout and believe everything is a gift from the Lord of Holy Light... how about this? You, and the few of you with her, will go to the West Ridge Mines. Go and experience what it’s like to earn your food through your own labor."
"Then you can see for yourselves whether your food comes from your own labor, or whether the Lord of Holy Light conjures it out of thin air."
The moment he finished speaking, Lynch’s Human Personal Guard rushed in and seized the stubborn teachers.
"You... you can’t do this!" The teacher struggled with all her might, but it was useless. "I’m a teacher certified by the Church! You can’t do this to me! This is an affront to the Holy Light Church! You’ll pay for this!"
"As a teacher, failing to watch your tongue and spreading harmful ideas is a dereliction of your duty. You deserve to be punished."
Lynch shot her a cold glance, then turned to the captain of his Personal Guard and said calmly, "Tell Fritz that after they’ve done their labor, he’s to ask them one question when he distributes their food: who provided it? If they answer that it was a gift from the Lord of Holy Light, then they’ll continue to go hungry. We’ll see if the Lord of Holy Light conjures up a meal for them."
"Yes!"
The Personal Guards dragged them away.
Dragon Flame shot the teacher a cold look, his golden, slit pupils flashing with a hint of authority that defied his age.
Esther, for her part, bared her fangs at the teacher and let out a low growl before quickly hiding behind Lynch, once again becoming a cute, well-behaved little girl.
After handling the matter, Lynch took Dragon Flame and Esther home. He took some time to comfort them, praising them for keeping their composure and not getting violent. He told them they had done well and gave them each a bag of their favorite snacks as a reward.
Only after they were happily eating their snacks did he leave the study and head to the Lord’s manor. He had someone summon Headmaster Albert, a group of teachers, Aus, and the other core members of Lakefront Town for an official meeting.
"Starting today, we will not allow the idea that ’all credit belongs to the gods’ to spread in Lakefront Town." Lynch sat at the head of the table, his gaze sharp. "We must correct this way of thinking. Every person in Lakefront Town is a hero! Whether they are Soldiers, farmers, artisans, Kobolds, or dwarves—so long as they contribute their labor to Lakefront Town, they are its builders."
He looked at Albert. "The academy must add a course on the theme of ’labor creates value.’ We need to make the children understand that the good lives they lead are earned by their parents’ two hands, not bestowed by any god."
In truth, Lynch was well aware that the teacher’s way of thinking was the mainstream ideology in this world.
He had never meddled with this sort of thing before. For one, he was already busy with his own training, and the sheer number of things to manage in Lakefront Town left him with limited energy. For another, the issue had never caused a conflict before, so it simply hadn’t occurred to him to pay it any mind.
But now that he had identified the problem, he had no intention of letting it continue.
Seeing Lynch’s resolute attitude, Albert, though hesitant, nodded. "Yes, my Lord. I’ll adjust the schedule immediately and free up one period a week for this course. It’s just... the textbook..."
Lynch thought for a moment, then said, "I’ll draft an outline for you. You can gather the teachers to brainstorm and fill in the details. Bring the final version to me for review."
"Yes, my Lord." Albert felt more at ease and raised no further questions.
In his view, Lynch, as the Lord, had the right to decide all matters within the territory. Since Lynch had made his decision, Albert’s job was simply to execute it. Other problems were not his to consider.
"Also..." Lynch turned to Aus. "I’ve noticed there are quite a few clever ones among the Kobold children. Let them attend school as well, to be educated alongside the Human children."
Aus was taken aback. "The... Kobolds can go to school?"
"Why not?" Lynch retorted. "Dragon Flame is a Kobold, and there are plenty of bright children among them. Knowledge shouldn’t be divided by race. If we educate the Kobolds, at the very least, they can help us better manage their own people and create greater value for Lakefront Town."
