Chapter 397: Chapter 134: Promotion! Lynch is Tier Three
"Uh..."
Lynch was dumbfounded. He couldn’t help but press a hand to his forehead and sigh.
He’d been incredibly busy lately. On top of that, Dragon Flame was growing fast and Esther was becoming more sapient by the day. After giving them some basic lessons, Lynch, desperate for some peace and quiet, had enrolled the two little ones in Lakefront Academy.
He never expected that in such a short time, they would cause so much trouble that their teacher was threatening to go on strike.
’These two little terrors...’
Resigned, Lynch stood and straightened his robes.
’When your kids are this much of a handful, what’s a father to do?’
He could only get himself together and rush over to check on them.
Lakefront Academy sat in the most scenic spot in Lakefront Town, nestled against a mountain and beside the water, offering a pleasant view.
When the town was first planned, its population was expected to grow rapidly. Worried about a future lack of space, a large plot of land had been specifically set aside for the academy during its construction. Currently, only about thirty percent of that land was actually in use.
Even so, the academy’s buildings already formed a picturesque cluster, giving it the air of a prestigious institution of higher learning.
However, when Lynch arrived at the academy gates, he discovered a whole entourage following him.
Aus stood with his arms crossed, a smile on his face.
Avril covered her mouth to stifle a giggle, clearly ready for a good show. Sea Song, though still a little pale, had come along as well. Catherine was in full military dress, having evidently just come from the training grounds.
Olivia and Lilith were huddled together, whispering and occasionally breaking into giggles.
"What are you all doing here?" Lynch snapped, glaring back at them.
"I’m here to witness history," Aus declared righteously. "The future Lord of the Undead getting a scolding from a teacher over his son and daughter? A scene like this is a rare sight. It must be documented."
"We’re just here for the show," Catherine said, the corner of her mouth twitching upwards. "We want to see Lord Lynch get a talking-to from a teacher. After all... it’s not a sight we’ve ever seen before."
"Right, right, right~" Lilith chimed in, her big eyes twinkling and a wide smile on her face. "I hear that teacher is super fierce. She even dares to stand up to the dean!"
"..."
Lynch was speechless, but he couldn’t shoo them away.
Resigned, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and head in.
’Worst case... I’ll just have to make a show of disciplining the kids on the spot to uphold the family rules.’
The faculty area was located deep within the academy, in a quiet and secluded spot.
Lynch had just reached the door of an office when he heard a sharp, female voice from within.
"Dean, you personally invited me here from Orlando City. I have over twenty years of experience teaching in Church academies, but I have never seen such heretical students!"
"A Vampire and a Kobold... and what’s even more outrageous, they’re supposedly Lord Lynch’s son and daughter! This is... blasphemy! It’s blasphemy against the Holy Light!"
Lynch stopped in his tracks. The apologetic look on his face instantly hardened.
Following behind, Aus’s heart sank. ’This isn’t good,’ he thought.
Having followed Lynch for so long, he knew his master’s temper perfectly. Lynch was usually all smiles and quite approachable, but once words like "blasphemy" were involved, especially against those he cared about, it was like touching a dragon’s reverse scale.
Inside the office, the dean was sweating profusely as the female teacher laid into him.
The dean was a middle-aged scholar who had fled from Lorraine Province as a refugee. Aus had appointed him as the dean of Lakefront Academy because he was knowledgeable, mild-mannered, and very patient with children. In the year since, his lack of experience had led to some stumbles, but overall he had managed.
When he saw Lynch and Governor Aus enter, it was as if he’d seen his saviors. "Lord Lynch, Governor Aus, you’re finally here..."
The female teacher was about forty, dressed in a somber black robe with a Holy Light Badge pinned to her chest. Her jet-black hair was pulled back into a meticulous bun, and her features were sharp and severe.
Seeing Lynch himself arrive, followed by Governor Aus and the rest of Lakefront Town’s leadership, her arrogant demeanor faltered slightly. Still, she kept her chin held high, her tone confrontational. "Lord Lynch, I hope you’ll properly discipline your adopted son and adopted daughter! They dared to talk back to me—so unruly! And what’s more..."
"Ma’am," Lynch interrupted, his expression impassive but his voice gentle. "Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Allow me to ask what’s going on."
With that, he turned to Dragon Flame and Esther, who stood before the office desk.
As a Dragon Descendant Warlock with an awakened bloodline, Dragon Flame was already over 1.5 meters tall, despite being just over a year old.
His back was ramrod straight, and his golden, slit-pupiled eyes seemed to burn with fire. His claws were clenched so tightly that his entire body trembled uncontrollably as if he were forcibly suppressing a furious rage.
Esther’s eyes glowed with red light, and her two sharp fangs were bared. Her small hand gripped her brother’s arm tightly.
If Lynch hadn’t repeatedly warned them to never, ever cause trouble at the academy—and especially not to lay a hand on a teacher—this woman might have already been burned to a crisp or sucked dry.
When the two little ones saw their father, they grew visibly nervous and afraid, looking for all the world like they’d been caught making trouble.
"Don’t be afraid," Lynch soothed them first, steadying their emotions. He then crouched down to their eye level and asked patiently, "Tell me what happened."
Dragon Flame had grown up at Lynch’s side and received his early education from him. Though just over a year old, he already spoke the common tongue fluently.
