Chapter 294: Chapter 119: My New Mother! Lady Moon Priestess
Dragon Flame, on the other hand, was curious about everything.
It crouched by Lynch’s feet, its golden, vertical pupils fixed on the fishing bobber floating on the water’s surface. A faint grumble came from its throat, and its tail twitched nervously, as if it were ready to pounce at any moment.
The tranquil atmosphere lasted for about... five minutes.
Dragon Flame finally couldn’t hold back any longer.
"Yiya!" it cried out excitedly. It kicked off with its hind legs and shot out like a bolt of lightning, plunging into the lake with a SPLASH.
Water went flying everywhere.
Esther got a face full of water. She froze for a moment, then giggled and joined in on the fun.
She dove down like a nimble swift, skimming across the lake’s surface as she tried to catch the small, panicked fish.
In an instant, the lake surface was a chaotic mess. Any fish that might have taken the bait were long scared away.
Lynch held his fishing rod, his eyelid twitching as he watched Dragon Flame thrashing about in the shallows, sending water everywhere, a fish already clamped in its jaws.
’Well, so much for fishing.’
He simply reeled in his line, pulled out a lounge chair, and lay down. He then covered his face with a book and started sunbathing by the lake, which was actually quite pleasant.
However, this peace didn’t last long.
Suddenly, the cry of a Griffin echoed from the sky.
Lynch immediately removed the book from his face and looked up into the distance. He saw seven or eight black dots in the far-off sky, rapidly approaching from the north.
The closer they got, the clearer their silhouettes became. It was a flight formation of Griffins.
After arriving over Lakefront Town, they circled briefly, then locked onto their target and descended quickly toward the Griffin Station on the mountainside.
"Heh, more visitors," Lynch said, raising an eyebrow with an amused look on his face.
The last time a Griffin contingent of this size had visited, it was that group with the mustachioed Fritz.
As for how that turned out~
Fritz was still undergoing "labor reform" in the West Ridge mines.
As for the guards he brought, they had ended up staying temporarily, citing a sense of belonging from their "medals" and their refusal to "abandon the young master and return alone."
Those guards were now serving as instructors in the Ninth Battle Battalion, teaching basic Combat Qi Skills to some of the army’s more outstanding Soldiers.
In this world, the aptitude requirements to become a Caster were often extremely high, demanding immense innate Spiritual Power.
But something like combat qi, especially the rudimentary Combat Qi Skills passed down in the military, had a much lower barrier to entry.
In the North Wind Legion, many Soldiers of common birth had earned the right to learn the military’s combat qi by distinguishing themselves in battle. They then tempered their bodies and cultivated their combat qi step by step, eventually climbing to the ranks of low-to-mid-level officers.
Of course, while the barrier for combat qi cultivation was relatively low, it wasn’t nonexistent.
If one’s aptitude was too poor, cultivating it would still be an inefficient struggle, often not worth the effort.
Furthermore, cultivating combat qi placed a great strain on the body. It not only required the Cultivator to have abundant qi and blood but also demanded the daily consumption of large quantities of high-quality food to replenish them. This was undoubtedly a huge pressure on logistics.
Therefore, it was practically impossible for any ordinary army to popularize combat qi among all its troops.
But in Lakefront Town, the food supply was currently quite sufficient, with no shortage of meat. Lynch also intended to cultivate a truly elite unit of Human troops, which was why this was all happening.
"Dragon Flame, Esther, let’s go. Time to head back," Lynch called out.
A short while later, he returned to the garrison with the two soaking wet little ones.
After changing into a set of clean clothes upstairs, he went down to the main hall to greet his guests.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Aus walked in, leading several travel-worn visitors.
There were five visitors in total—three men and two women. Judging by their dress and appearance, they weren’t military personnel but typical scholars.
They wore robes made of fine but practical fabric, with various small tool pouches hanging from them. From what was peeking out of the pouches, they seemed to have everything from glasses and Scroll cases to portable microscopes.
Their ages varied, but without exception, their eyes all shone with a thirsty, almost fanatical, light of knowledge.
"Lord Lynch." Aus stepped forward and introduced them respectfully. "These are scholars from the Imperial Capital’s Royal Historical Society and the Imperial Capital Academy. They’ve come at the invitation of Kains University Scholar to study the Elf relics we discovered in the mines~"
As he spoke, he gave Lynch a wink.
Aus had barely finished speaking when an old man with a white beard and hair, wearing thick crystal glasses, said impatiently, "Battalion Commander Lynch, I am Alfred White, a senior council member of the Royal Historical Society, specializing in the history of Ancient Elf civilization. I heard that Elf products were discovered in your mines?"
"Is it possible for you to take us to see them now?"
A woman in her thirties beside him immediately followed up, introducing herself, "My name is Sofia Xingyu. I’m an associate professor in the archaeology department at the Imperial Capital Academy, and I specialize in analyzing Elven runes and Magic Arrays."
Another, a short and stocky fellow, rubbed his hands together and said with a grin, "I’m Gelan Iron Anvil, of the Dwarf Race, a specially appointed Appraiser of metals and minerals for the Royal Society. I’m very interested in Elf alloys, hehe~"
The remaining two, a younger man and woman who seemed to be assistants or students, also introduced themselves. One was a copyist for Elven Language documents, and the other was an illustrator of ancient biological atlases.
This group didn’t bother with any pleasantries or small talk with Lynch. They got straight to the point, clearly drawn in by the bait Kains University Scholar had thrown out.
