Chapter 250: Chapter 113: Ancient Elf Ruins! Acquiring a Ghost Unit (Part 2)
The Ghost’s forward pounce came to a halt. It shot toward the basement ceiling like a bolt of lightning, bypassing the Corpse Demon and Blood Fang in the blink of an eye. Like a cloud of luminous mist, it lunged ferociously at Lynch once more.
A shrill, soul-shaking screech instantly echoed throughout the entire underground chamber.
Ghosts were a rather special type of being within the Undead System. The conditions for a Ghost to form naturally were incredibly strict, and most beings who became Ghosts had been quite powerful in life. As a result, Ghosts often started at Tier Three.
Moreover, they had a strong immunity to physical attacks, making them a natural counter to most purely physical classes. However, their resistance to spiritual attacks and energy attacks like fire and lightning was relatively weak, so they were easily countered by classes from the Mage Series and the Holy Light System.
Judging from the aura it was exuding, Lynch determined that this was a Ghost at roughly the Tier Three Middle Stage.
Although his opponent’s attack was ferocious, Lynch wasn’t the least bit flustered.
He hadn’t been the least bit idle over the past few months.
In addition to Meditation and strengthening his troops, he had also taken the opportunity to acquire several new Undead Magic Skill Scrolls from the academy through his mentor, Annabella. Furthermore, they were all soul-based Magic.
At his level, his Spiritual Power was already considerable. Coupled with the enhancements from some of his equipment, he was able to begin dabbling in Magic that involved the soul.
For example: [Soul Lash], [Soul Harvesting], and [Soul Imprisonment].
He had already learned these spells and added them to his skill panel.
Grinding these skills with his skill panel was quite convenient; he could practice them by having Sea Song drive a group of wild Fishmen toward him. So, whenever Lynch had a spare moment, he casually ground them out.
The current levels of these skills couldn’t yet compare to his main combat abilities, but he had no problem with their basic application.
Of course, when his mentor had sent the Scrolls, she had also used a Magic Letter to gently remind him that the path of a Mage was long. While his tier was still low, it was best to focus on one or two areas. Biting off more than he could chew would make him a jack of all trades and a master of none, resulting in low combat effectiveness and hindering his future development.
His mentor’s words were, of course, reasonable. An ordinary Mage’s energy and time were indeed limited, making it impossible for them to master so many skills.
But Lynch knew his own situation best. He had a "cheat" in the form of his skill panel; as long as he successfully cast a spell, he gained experience and raised its level.
He held an unparalleled advantage in terms of "proficiency" and "speed of mastery."
He had also discovered that with his current Tier Two strength, the upper limit for his skill levels seemed to be LV4 (29999/30000). He suspected that he could only grind out that final point of experience after he broke through to Tier Three.
But even so, this was already the proficiency level of a typical Tier Four Necromancer in one of their specialized skills.
Therefore, he had more than enough capital and ability to train in various practical skills.
Of course, to placate his mentor, Lynch had replied with a sincere letter stating that he was only dabbling to broaden his horizons and that his main areas of study were still the Skeleton and Zombie Cultivation disciplines...
Now, facing this lunging Tier Three Ghost, he could finally test the effects of these Soul Magics on Ghost Type units.
Lynch’s eyes narrowed. He pointed the Raven Low Speech Staff in his hand forward and uttered a string of abstruse syllables.
[Soul Lash]!
An intangible, immaterial phantom of a long whip materialized from thin air and viciously struck the lunging Ghost.
Although Lynch’s Soul Lash wasn’t yet refined and was still low-level, this was more than compensated for by his immense Spiritual Power, which far surpassed that of Mages of the same tier. Besides, Soul Lash was inherently a powerful counter to a pure Soul Body like this Ghost.
Instantly.
"AAAAHHH!!!"
The Ghost let out a pained, mournful howl.
Its translucent body twisted from the blow, its pounce instantly becoming sluggish. Even the icy-blue, luminous mist surrounding its ghostly form dimmed considerably.
In the next instant, Lynch flipped over his left hand, and the Crimson Pendant in which Elegy’s mother had sealed Hellfire appeared in his palm.
He didn’t fully unleash the terrifying power within. Instead, he drew out just a sliver of its pure, immense Hellfire aura.
Instantly.
"BOOM~!"
A torrent of scorching, violent, and utterly destructive heat surged toward the Ghost.
Although it was just a wisp of aura, for a Ghost that feared fire and light, the primal Hellfire aura from a High Tier Lord of Hell was tantamount to the arrival of a natural predator.
The moment they made contact, the Ghost’s icy-blue Soul Body trembled violently. Like snow touched by flame, it began to melt away with a continuous SIZZLE, giving off wisps of white smoke.
It let out a terrified shriek. Its forward momentum ceased abruptly, and it began to flee frantically.
It instinctively tried to escape back through the Teleportation Gate.
However, it had only flown halfway when it discovered that the mirror-like surface of the Teleportation Gate behind it had already vanished. The runes on the frame had gone completely dark. Even the stone disk that served as its core had been frantically dismantled by Jinke, who was now clutching it tightly to his chest while hiding behind Sea Song.
The escape route was cut off.
The Ghost seemed to be utterly enraged.
It let out a shriek full of resentment. No longer fearing the Hellfire aura, the icy-blue light around its body flared brilliantly as it charged madly toward Lynch, ready for a final, desperate struggle.
