Chapter 233: Chapter 110: Pale Elegy: What a Lively Scene

The Catastrophe Mage’s eyes flew wide. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but no sound escaped—only bloody foam that endlessly spewed from his lips.

He stiffly lowered his head to look at the piercing wound in his abdomen, which was being seared by Holy Light. Then he struggled to turn his head toward the direction the attack had come from...

However, before he could get a clear look at his attacker, his vision went black. He fell backward, stiff as a board, and collapsed onto the high platform.

His Magic Staff slipped from his grasp and rolled to one side.

A Tier Five Mage, an outlaw from the Imperial Blacklist, the Catastrophe Mage Horn Solar, was dead. Just like that.

It all happened too quickly, too stealthily.

At that moment, the attention of the vast majority was fixed on the Flame Demon about to crawl out of the summoning Array. The din of the ranged battle between the opposing forces drowned out the negligible sound of something whistling through the air.

No one even noticed the fleeting spear of Holy Light.

Until—

"ROOOOAR!!!"

The three-headed Hellhound that had been crouching beneath the high platform abruptly lifted its three heads.

As if sensing its master’s mental link had vanished, it let out a deafening, furious roar, then kicked off with all four legs and leaped directly onto the high platform.

All eyes snapped toward the platform, only to find the once-unbeatable Lord Catastrophe Mage lying face-up in a pool of his own blood, a blackened, gaping hole that looked like a burn in his abdomen.

"L-Lord?!"

"Lord Solar is down!"

"What happened?!"

"Backlash! It must be summoning backlash!"

A huge commotion immediately erupted within the Blue Scarf faction’s ranks, and panicked shouts rose from all sides.

Meanwhile, the summoning Array began to fluctuate violently, destabilized by the Caster’s death and the interruption of Magic Power.

Sensing that something was wrong, the half-emerged Flame Demon let out a roar. With a mighty struggle, it burst forth from the spatial rift, unfurling its body in the center of the Array.

Its massive form, well over ten meters tall, was like a small, burning mountain, radiating a terrifying, heart-stopping pressure.

’It worked!’

Angus suppressed the wild joy in his heart and immediately, as planned, roared at the top of his lungs, "It’s bad! Lord Solar suffered a backlash! The summoning is out of control, and the Flame Demon is on a rampage! Retreat! Fall back and get away from the Flame Demon!"

As he yelled, he feigned panic and led his Personal Guard in a retreat toward the rear flank.

When the Soldiers of the Angus Department heard the warning about the "Flame Demon’s rampage" and saw their own commander leading the rout, any fighting spirit they had left vanished. They immediately turned and surged backward in a chaotic torrent.

Not only that, but Angus also grabbed a bow from one of his Personal Guard and fired an arrow at the Flame Demon.

The arrow struck the mountain-sized Flame Demon, doing about as much damage as a tickle.

But when Angus’s loyal men saw their commander take action, they followed his lead. As they retreated, they began firing their own bows and crossbows at the Flame Demon. Even the few Mages in their ranks, including a Tier Three Fire Mage, casually slung a few Magic attacks its way.

"ROAR—"

Although these scattered attacks dealt the Flame Demon almost no substantial damage, the humiliation was immense. Its burning eyes locked onto the ants who dared to offend it.

"BOOM!"

It strode forward on its flaming legs, chasing after the "fleeing" Angus Department.

Its huge body was like a small mountain, and the ground rumbled with every step it took.

But the Angus Department retreated with incredible speed, intentionally luring the monster. Before the Flame Demon had taken more than a few steps, it blundered right into another Blue Scarf unit still lost in confusion and shock.

"AHHH—!!"

Horrified screams echoed everywhere.

Scorching fire spewed from the Flame Demon’s mouth, instantly incinerating a dozen Soldiers who failed to dodge in time.

With a casual swing of its arm, the Flame Demon lashed out with a long whip of fire, smashing a squad of crossbowmen and their weapons to pieces.

The battlefield devolved into utter chaos.

"The Flame Demon has gone berserk!"

"Run for your lives!"

"Hold it back! AHHH—!!"

Fanned by instigators planted in the crowd, chaos and fear spread like a plague through the various units.

Some tried to flee, others attempted to mount a defense. Panicked ranged troops fired indiscriminately at the Flame Demon, but their attacks only further enraged the terrifying monster from Hell.

Meanwhile, the three-headed Hellhound on the high platform was also hit by arrows and Magic that seemed to appear from nowhere.

Its tier was far lower than the Flame Demon’s. Wounds immediately opened up on its body, and blood began to gush out. It flew into an instant frenzy.

Unshackled from its master’s control, its savage nature was completely unleashed. Its three heads roared as one, and it leaped down, pouncing on the nearest group of Blue Scarf Soldiers. It tore them apart with claw and fang while spewing Hellfire from its mouths, creating a scene of instant, bloody slaughter.

Two powerful summoned beasts—one out of control, the other completely berserk—wreaked devastating chaos and casualties throughout the Blue Scarf ranks.

In an instant, every man in the Blue Scarf faction was fighting for himself. The command structure had completely collapsed.

Meanwhile, Angus, the architect of the whole affair, had already led his three-hundred-plus men in a "rout" to the relative safety of some ruins on the battlefield’s flank.

He immediately gathered his power and bellowed.

"Don’t panic! Everyone, stay calm! The Flame Demon and the Hellhound are out of control! If you want to live, listen to me! Form up! Create some distance and wear them down with ranged attacks! Melee troops, hold the shield wall!"
