The whistle that had been controlling the tourists was finally smashed, and the effect was immediate and unmistakable. The tourists, who had been obediently trying to leave, suddenly shook off whatever restraint had held them and surged toward the corpses.

They had already been drawn by the smell of flesh and blood, and only the whistle had kept them in check. Now that the whistle was gone, nothing remained to hold them back, and they let themselves go completely.

The three-colored vests were powerless to stop them. This was equally true of the three-colored vests that had been staying with Suzuran Wenxi for some time.

Having succeeded in destroying the whistle, Wenxi pretended to slash at the air with her dagger a few times. Then, without warning, she hurled the exploding grapes that Lin Yun had given her straight at Vivian. She did not wait to see the result of her throw. Instead, she turned and ran away, telling her puppets to hide on their own and promising to summon them when she needed them. Before fleeing, she had already spotted Lily of the Valley being carried away by their companions in the confusion.

The scene instantly descended into complete chaos.

The tourists, ignoring absolutely everything else, crowded toward the corpses. Unable to get any fresh flesh and blood, they simply resorted to cannibalism and began devouring one another. Some of them even set their sights on the three-colored vests themselves.

Vivian was startled by the sudden turn of events. At a moment like this, she did not dare to confront the tourists head-on. She quickly ordered the three-colored vests to surround her and escort her away from the troublesome place. The tourists were far too busy devouring flesh and blood to care whether Vivian lived or died, and so Vivian was escorted away from the tourists without any trouble.

However, when she tried to pass through the gate and return to the castle, she discovered that the iron gate was standing open. Someone had opened it at some point, and she had no idea who had done it or when.

Vivian: "!!!"

A terrible feeling rose in her chest. She hurriedly ordered the iron gate to be locked again and ran toward the castle, but the closer she got, the stronger her unease grew.

Someone had probably already broken into her castle, and that thought terrified her!

No. That could not be happening. The castle’s secret must never be discovered!

The moment she stepped into the hall, Rose came forward to greet her. "Master?"

"Has someone come in?! Has someone come in?!"

Vivian was visibly agitated, and beneath that agitation she was genuinely afraid of what the answer might be.

Rose quickly tried to reassure Vivian and calm her down. "Someone opened the iron gate, and a great many tourists rushed in. Gardenia and Rose spotted them and led them away so they would stay clear of the castle."

At this point, Rose’s tone became somewhat downcast. "They told me to wait here, but they never came back. I don’t know what has become of them now."

This reassured Vivian. If the intruders were only tourists, then there was nothing to worry about, and everything was fine. She had already sealed off all the other entrances to the castle, and the only way up was the staircase in the main hall. Rose was standing in that hall. Who could possibly get past Rose and into the castle?

"In that case, take some people and search the castle for those tourists," Vivian ordered. "See whether they are still within the castle grounds. If you find them, drive them out at once."

"Understood, Master. The iron gate is closed now, so no more of them will be coming in."

"I am going upstairs to rest for a while. You can arrange the guard duty among yourselves."

Vivian waved her hand dismissively as she finished speaking, but she did not fully believe Rose’s account. She needed to go up and check the locks herself, with her own eyes. If Rose was the only one guarding the place, there would inevitably be some oversights.

She went straight up the stairs without stopping, and it did not take long to find signs of a break-in on the upper floors.

It was true!

Someone really had broken into the castle!

Vivian glanced at the second and third floors and found traces of trespassing on both, so she immediately ran toward the higher levels. The unease in her heart kept growing stronger with every step that she took. She had a persistent feeling that the intruders were not only tourists, and that outsiders might be among them.

When she reached the seventh floor, she was dumbfounded by what she saw on the ground.

Meanwhile, on the seventh floor, Song Xizheng and the others heard someone climbing the stairs. It sounded like only one person, and no more than that. The men immediately picked up their weapons and aimed them at the stairwell, waiting for whoever was coming.

As soon as Vivian rounded the corner, she saw the group of outsiders standing there.

"You really have broken into my castle!"

At the sound of Vivian’s voice, the butler of the black monster hurried over. He was speechless and could only stand there looking at Vivian.

"Butler?! You have betrayed me too?! You have actually mingled with outsiders!"

"Didn’t you love me the most? Why are you turning against me? Isn’t everything I have done for all of you?!"

The instant Vivian saw the black monster appear, the last string in her mind snapped.

She drew a small scepter from her person and swept it through the air, and countless ice blades appeared out of nowhere. Under her control, they shot toward Song Xizheng and his group.

After uttering a few curses, Song Xizheng and his three companions picked up their weapons and began to fight, and another battle broke out in the corridor in an instant.

The butlers were extremely anxious, and they were frantic with worry. This fight was nothing like the minor squabbles they had just had with the tourists, and they could not possibly get involved. Worse, Vivian had now lost her reason. She believed they had betrayed her as well, and she was attacking indiscriminately.

Yet these black monsters were different from the ones Vivian would create later. They could never be as powerful as the black monsters that appeared only at night. All they could do was stand aside and watch anxiously, unable to do anything at all.

On the top floor, the black monster seemed to sense that something was wrong. She walked to the railing and listened carefully to the noise below. Two minutes later, she turned her head and looked at the closed door. After thinking for a moment, she went over and knocked.

Lin Yun was stunned for a moment. Then she remembered the black monster who had been guarding her outside, and she hurried to open the door.

Just then, a huge explosion erupted from Song Xizheng’s direction.

Lin Yun was startled again. "Do you want to go and take a look?"

The black monster nodded in reply. She raised her arm and placed the object she was holding into Lin Yun’s hand.

It was a photograph.

Lin Yun looked at the photograph more closely. It was a picture that showed Vivian as a little girl with her mother. In the picture, Vivian was holding an adorable teddy bear and smiling brightly while her mother wrapped her in a warm embrace.

But this little bear looked very familiar to her. She felt as though she had definitely seen it somewhere before, but she could not remember where.

"Isn’t this the one you brought back from the amusement park last time?"

Sang Biao had crept close without her noticing and had seen the photo in her hand and was peering at it.

Lin Yun hissed in surprise as she finally remembered. The teddy bear was a prize she had won, and she had given it to Sang Biao and Tuan Tuan to play with.

The black monster could not understand Sang Biao’s meowing, so she could not answer the cat. She gave Lin Yun a look that was gentle but firm, then turned to head downstairs. She had to stop Vivian. She had to stop her from continuing to harm the outsiders. The black monsters owed the outsiders far too much, and they knew it.

"Wait!"

Lin Yun quickly called out to the black monster. "Wait for me. I will go and get you something!"

It was only after seeing the photograph that she had remembered the bear. During this time, she had encountered children searching for their lost toy bears, and earlier the black monster that appeared in the middle of the night seemed to be looking for the same thing. All of them had been searching for that bear.

So the little bear that everyone had been searching for belonged to Vivian.

Lin Yun did not understand why the black monster had given her the photograph. But one thing she was sure of: handing the little bear over to the black monster had to be the right thing to do.
