Chapter 149: Chapter 148: No Need to Fuss Over Attire

Yu Zhiming accepted Qianyu Culture’s 100,000 yuan thank-you payment without hesitation.

In Gu Qingning’s words, it was the compensation he deserved.

Thanks to Yu Zhiming’s judgment on the lip-syncing, Qianyu Culture not only got Rao Yi Company to drop its advertising lawsuit, but also secured a contract under exceptionally favorable terms to host a Rao Yi concert in Jinling next summer.

Between the avoided losses and the potential concert revenue, Qianyu Culture stood to gain at least seven to eight million.

Gu Qingning was indignant, scorning Qianyu Culture for their stinginess in only offering a hundred thousand yuan...

On Thursday at noon, Yu Zhiming invited the director’s secretary, He Yingjun, to lunch.

And "lunch" was meant in the most literal sense.

Yu Zhiming and He Yingjun each got a tray of food from Staff Cafeteria No. 1 and sat across from each other to eat.

Yu Zhiming asked Secretary He about the possibility of high school students visiting the hospital and received a delightfully positive response.

Secretary He explained that the hospital did, in fact, host such events, which were aimed at promoting the hospital and encouraging young people to pursue careers in medicine.

Yu Zhiming then brought up the request from his hometown’s county hospital.

Secretary He stated that as a nationally renowned top-tier general hospital, Huashan Hospital had annual partnership and exchange programs to support underdeveloped regions.

However, he advised that it would be best for Yu Zhiming to bring this matter to the director personally, as it wasn’t his place to relay the request.

Yu Zhiming sincerely thanked Secretary He for the guidance...

"Dr. Yu, I heard you had a little misunderstanding with the young mistress of the Wei Family?"

Yu Zhiming grunted in affirmation. "She wanted me to explain the so-called ’secret’ to solving the PUZZLE to her son."

"I don’t have any secret, so I refused."

"I suppose the young mistress is used to everyone jumping at her command and can’t handle rejection, so she said some rather harsh things to me."

He Yingjun nodded in understanding.

He, of course, knew that Dr. Yu’s "secret" to solving the PUZZLE was using his skills in auscultation and percussion to discern its internal structure.

It was an innate talent—not something that could be taught or learned by others.

He Yingjun had realized this during the last house call to the Wei Family with Yu Zhiming.

This Dr. Yu possessed a strength of character that most young doctors lacked; he refused to let his medical skills be belittled or taken lightly.

Most importantly, Dr. Yu had medical skills and abilities that not only matched but perhaps even surpassed his pride.

He Yingjun sighed softly. "Some women are so shallow. They marry into wealth and suddenly think they’re above everyone else."

"People like that just become a laughingstock. Dr. Yu, we don’t need to pay her any mind."

"However, the actual heads of the Wei Family are quite reasonable and discreet."

Yu Zhiming chuckled softly. "They’re a wealthy and powerful family, and I’m just a young doctor trying to build a career. I doubt our paths will cross very often in the future."

He Yingjun chuckled. "You’re no ordinary doctor. One day, they might just come begging for your help."

"And as for wealth... Dr. Yu, with your superb medical skills and constant stream of new discoveries and achievements, riches are just a matter of time..."

After five in the afternoon, the overweight son of a client Fu Xiaobo had mentioned arrived at the Qi Yue Medical Research Center with his fashionably dressed mother.

It had to be said, the sixteen-year-old was truly massive. His thighs were as thick as Yu Zhiming’s waist.

When he walked, his legs were forced into a knock-kneed position, his feet splaying outwards with every step.

Yu Zhiming gave him a thorough examination. Besides finding that his cardiopulmonary system was under heavy strain and his knee joints showed excessive wear and tear, there were no other immediate issues.

Weight loss was the only advice Yu Zhiming could offer.

Just as Yu Zhiming was about to conclude the examination, the overweight teenager suddenly asked, "Doctor, my vision gets blurry at night. Could you take a look for me?"

"Blurry vision at night?"

Hearing this, Yu Zhiming retrieved the small ophthalmoscope used for eye exams, drew the curtains, and dimmed the lights in the room.

He held the ophthalmoscope close to the teenager’s right eye, examining the cornea, lens, vitreous body, and the fundus.

And indeed, he found something.

There was some minor pigmentation near the equatorial region of the teenager’s right retina.

This was not something that should appear in someone his age.

After examining both of the teenager’s eyes, Yu Zhiming let the light in the room return to normal.

He asked the teenager, "This blurry vision at night—have you always had it, or did it only start recently?"

The teenager recalled, "It’s probably only been for the past year or two. I used to think it was just my eyes getting more nearsighted."

"But lately, I feel like it’s more than that. My vision gets significantly worse at night."

The teenager asked worriedly, "Doctor, is there really something wrong with my eyes?"

Yu Zhiming nodded. "I did find some abnormalities."

"However, I’m not an eye specialist. You’ll need a referral to the ophthalmology department for further tests."

"They have more specialized and precise equipment for eye examinations there."

Yu Zhiming turned to the teenager’s mother.

"Are there any eye diseases among the child’s direct relatives on either his father’s or mother’s side?"

The teenager spoke up before his mother could. "I can answer that, Doctor. My parents, and my grandparents on both sides—none of them have any eye problems."

"Doctor, do you think my eye problem is genetic?"

Yu Zhiming offered a small smile. "I’m just ruling out possibilities. If it’s not genetic, it’s most likely not a major issue."

"And if it is genetic?" the teenager pressed.

Yu Zhiming paused for a moment before speaking frankly. "Based on what you’ve described, your progressively blurry vision at night is very likely a symptom of worsening nyctalopia, or night blindness."

"And combined with my own findings..."

"If the symptoms are genetic, it could be retinitis pigmentosa."

As Yu Zhiming said this, the teenager pulled out his phone and searched for "retinitis pigmentosa."

Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of inherited eye diseases characterized by the progressive degeneration of both photoreceptor cells and the retinal pigment epithelium.

Its initial symptoms typically include difficulty with night vision, followed by a progressive loss of peripheral vision, eventually leading to blindness.

There is no effective cure for this disease.

Seeing the color drain from the teenager’s face, Yu Zhiming quickly tried to reassure him, "This is just my preliminary guess. And since we don’t know of any genetic cause, you most likely don’t have this condition."

"An eye specialist will need to make the final diagnosis..."

After seeing off the deeply worried teenager and his mother, Yu Zhiming returned to the main office.

Zhou Mo greeted him with a beaming smile.

"Dr. Yu, the Director said I can come to the project signing ceremony tomorrow afternoon, too!"

"He said our center is also a participant, and I’ll be handling some of the administrative and logistical work for the project."

Yu Zhiming let out a noncommittal "Oh," then noticed Qiao Lei looking at him with puppy-dog eyes.

He chuckled. "You’re my work assistant. Since you’ll be assisting me, you can be considered a direct or indirect participant."

Qiao Lei’s face broke into a wide grin. "So that means I can go to the project signing ceremony tomorrow, too!"

"Dr. Yu, what are you wearing tomorrow? I need to know so I can dress down and not steal your spotlight."

Yu Zhiming rolled his eyes and ignored the buffoon.

Zhou Mo giggled. "Qiao Lei, you sure are confident. Even ten of you put together couldn’t outshine Dr. Yu’s singular charisma."

After a pause, Zhou Mo asked, "Dr. Yu, a lot of big names in the medical field will be there tomorrow, and since you’re the key figure in this project, all eyes will be on you."

"So... about your outfit?"

Zhou Mo quickly added, "My mom makes custom Chinese-style formalwear for men and women, for important events."

"Dr. Yu, you have a very standard build. I’m sure my mom has some ready-made formalwear that would fit you perfectly."

"Should I bring a few options for you to try?"

Yu Zhiming quickly declined. "Thank you, Zhou Mo, but there’s no need. My fourth sister has already gotten everything ready for me."

"Besides, this is a medical project ceremony, not a red carpet event for celebrities. As long as the clothes are dignified and formal, that’s enough. There’s no need to overthink it."

’Although he said that, he actually considered tomorrow’s ceremony to be quite important.’

He had already made plans with his Fourth Sister and Gu Qingning.

After work, he would head out with them to try on clothes at a few boutiques they had already scouted...
