Chapter 148: Chapter 147: Zhang Bai, and ’Big Brother’ Already

A little after 8:30 p.m., Yu Zhiming, who was reading at home, received a call from Teacher Qi Yue.

"Zhiming, you rascal, how on earth did you figure out that boy would be allergic to another man’s genetic material?"

Yu Zhiming chuckled and said, "Teacher, I noticed that kid has a best friend he’s practically inseparable from!"

"It suddenly occurred to me that he’s better-looking than most women and is very popular with girls. Naturally, he’d be the target of envy, jealousy, and hate from other guys, and he might also attract the attention of certain men with... special interests."

"So I considered that possibility and had Qiao Lei secretly give him a patch test for an allergy to male genetic material."

Yu Zhiming added with a smug smile, "I didn’t expect to get so lucky. It was a perfect match right away."

"Teacher, did the boy say anything?"

Qi Yue chuckled softly over the phone and replied, "He insisted his orientation is normal and that nothing of that sort has ever happened."

"Mm, considering the time and place of each of his fainting spells, I believe he’s not lying!"

"Then what about his allergic syncope?" Yu Zhiming asked, confused.

Qi Yue chuckled. "It’s likely just as you had Qiao Lei secretly test for. Some pervert probably got their genetic material onto his body in a rather surreptitious way."

"Based on a comprehensive analysis, there’s a high probability it’s an acquaintance."

Qi Yue chuckled again. "The boy’s parents must have figured that out, too. The looks on their faces were not pretty."

"What happens next is none of our concern."

Qi Yue added, "The boy’s fainting issue is resolved, and no treatment is needed. They’ve already left the hospital..."

After ending the call with Teacher Qi, Yu Zhiming came out of his bedroom to get some water, only to find that his Fourth Sister and Gu Qingning weren’t home.

’They went out shopping together?’

Yu Zhiming dialed his Fourth Sister’s number.

The call connected quickly, and a loud, noisy clamor immediately blasted from the phone, forcing Yu Zhiming to hold it a little farther from his ear.

"Fifth Brother, we’re at the night market."

Yu Xiangwan spoke quickly into the phone, "Big Brother Zhang Bai is a bit swamped here and can’t quite handle it, so Qingning and I are helping him out for a bit."

"Here’s thirty yuan back for you. Please take it."

"Fifth Brother, if there’s nothing else, we can talk more when we get back..."

Seeing his Fourth Sister hang up without a moment’s hesitation, Yu Zhiming couldn’t help but mutter, ’Zhang Bai... She’s already calling him Big Brother. They sure are getting close fast...’

Just then, his phone rang again.

It was a call from his eldest sister, Yu Zhaoxia.

"Fifth Brother, that bratty girl only just told me tonight about opening some stock account. Another hundred thousand yuan..."

Yu Zhiming chuckled and cut in, "Eldest Sister, Xiaoxue is just using my money to practice in the stock market. It’s a requirement for her major. Every student has to open an account and deposit a hundred thousand."

"I’m just treating it like a four-year investment plan. Who knows, maybe Xiaoxue will have a nice surprise for me in four years."

His eldest sister sighed heavily. "I’m just afraid she’ll give you a nasty shock in four years, with not a single penny left."

Yu Zhiming giggled. "I’m not afraid even if she loses it all. Eldest Sister, you know I’m pretty good at making money now."

"Just a few days ago, I had a big score of six hundred thousand!"

His eldest sister huffed softly. "After buying that car and giving that brat another hundred thousand, the six hundred thousand is all gone, isn’t it?"

"Oh, Fifth Brother, don’t you get into the bad habit of spending money like water. The housing prices in Binhai are terrifyingly high. I looked it up—it’s a hundred thousand per square meter."

"Your income might seem high, but compared to Binhai’s high housing prices and cost of living, it doesn’t go that far."

"With Binhai’s housing prices, even if your second and third sisters and I wanted to help you, we’d be willing but unable."

Yu Zhiming chuckled lightly and said, "Eldest Sister, I know what I’m doing. I won’t need your help this time..."

"I guarantee that within two years, I’ll buy a house in Binhai on my own."

His eldest sister let out a soft breath and urged, "Fifth Brother, honestly, ever since you went to Binhai, my heart has been in my throat. I haven’t been able to relax."

"Fifth Brother, you have to take good care of yourself. Don’t get into conflicts with people so easily."

Yu Zhiming hummed in agreement and said slowly, "Eldest Sister, I was new here before, and my thinking was a bit simplistic and naive. I won’t make you and Mom and Dad worry so easily anymore."

He and his eldest sister chatted about family matters for another ten minutes or so before Yu Zhiming finally ended the call.

Less than twenty minutes later, Yu Zhiming got another call, this time from Fu Xiaobo.

"What is it? You kid, you never call me unless you need something. Whatever it is, spit it out."

Fu Xiaobo first gave an obsequious laugh before saying, "I know you’re always busy, Little Uncle, even studying during your time off."

"I was just afraid of wasting your precious time. Little Uncle, if you want to talk, I could talk with you all night, no problem."

Yu Zhiming scoffed lightly and urged, "Stop with the sweet talk. If you have something to say, say it."

"And just so you know, I really was reading just now."

Fu Xiaobo chuckled again before getting to the point. "Little Uncle, I contacted another client. I met with them tonight for over half an hour, and it felt pretty good."

"During my conversation with the client, I intentionally brought you up, Little Uncle. The great thing is, he’s heard of you."

"But that also led to something new..."

Yu Zhiming rolled his eyes. "You little brat, stop beating around the bush. Just tell me what you need me to do."

Fu Xiaobo quickly replied, "It’s like this, Little Uncle."

"This client of mine has a son who’s sixteen this year. He’s one-point-seven meters tall and weighs almost two hundred jin."

"The client said they’ve been pushing their son to lose weight for the past two years, but with no effect."

"He wants to ask you, Little Uncle, to give his son a physical check-up."

Yu Zhiming said, "Oh. A check-up is fine, but don’t expect me to come up with some weight-loss plan."

"Weight loss is just about controlling what you eat and moving your body, plus self-discipline and persistence. There are no shortcuts."

Fu Xiaobo grunted in agreement. "Honestly, he’s just spoiled by his wealthy family. He wouldn’t even need to watch what he eats. Just make him work on a construction site with me for two months, and I guarantee he’ll lose fifty jin."

He paused for a moment before continuing, "Little Uncle, there’s one more thing. The client said that a relative’s kid is a high school senior this year and wants to be a doctor because he thinks it’s cool."

"The client was asking if it’s possible to arrange an opportunity for the kid to shadow a doctor for a day, so he can truly experience the ups and downs and the difficulties of a doctor’s job."

’Well...’

Yu Zhiming thought for a moment and said, "I’ll have to ask the hospital if they have any similar immersive observation programs."

"If they don’t, it won’t be easy for me to arrange. If some accident were to happen, it would be a huge problem."

Fu Xiaobo said, "Oh," and added, "Little Uncle, if you can do it, great. If not, don’t force it."

"Whether we land the project or not mainly depends on our design, renovation quality, and price."

Yu Zhiming chuckled. "Of course I know to only do it if it’s feasible. You don’t need to remind me."

"Hey, remember to call your mom often..."

It was nearly eleven at night when Yu Zhiming’s Fourth Sister and Gu Qingning finally returned.

"Chow mein, Fifth Brother. We brought this back especially for you."

Yu Zhiming rolled his eyes and said disdainfully, "It’s almost bedtime. Who’s going to eat this greasy stuff?"

"What made you decide to go help him?"

Yu Xiangwan smiled. "Wasn’t it to get a little closer to him and lower his guard?"

"Fifth Brother, let me tell you, filming that video and uploading it to the charity website to fundraise wasn’t Big Brother Zhang Bai’s idea."

"It was one of Zhang Bai’s... enthusiastic customers who found out about his situation and filmed the video for him."

"In other words, he didn’t start the food stall to put on a show. He just wanted to earn some money for medical bills."

Yu Zhiming snorted. "Even if someone else suggested it, the fundraising couldn’t have happened without his approval and active participation."

"Besides, are we just supposed to take his word for it?"

Yu Xiangwan said awkwardly, "I’m not saying we should take his word for it. I’m still going to investigate further."

Just then, Gu Qingning interjected, "Zhiming, I just got news. Qianyu Culture and Rao Yi Company reached a settlement agreement tonight."

"Qianyu Culture also said they’ll be sending over a hundred thousand yuan."

"Part of it is to express their gratitude, and the other part is an apology for the disruption to your life, Zhiming..."
