Chapter 150 - 149: Income Greater Than Expenditure
Chapter 150: Chapter 149: Income Greater Than Expenditure
No major incidents occurred around the hospital today, and Qi Yue hadn’t assigned Yu Zhiming any last-minute work, so he was able to get off on time.
Yu Zhiming drove his Fourth Sister and Gu Qingning toward Binhai’s famous boutique-lined street, South Pujiang Road.
"Zhiming, we’re taking you to two niche brand boutiques, one from Italy and one from France."
Gu Qingning explained, "Well-known luxury brands like Armani or Gucci are for the nouveau riche, country bumpkins with money, and fake rich kids who are terrified of people not knowing they have money."
"People with real taste and style either wear custom-tailored clothes or understated, sophisticated niche brands."
Yu Zhiming said "Oh," then asked worriedly, "The two stores you’re taking me to... the prices aren’t too expensive, are they?"
Gu Qingning giggled and said, "They range from one or two thousand to seven or eight thousand. What do you think? You can handle that, right?"
"That’s fine, that’s fine!"
Yu Zhiming nodded in satisfaction. "I really can’t afford clothes like Armani that cost tens or even hundreds of thousands."
"There’s no need to pretend to be richer than I am. These stylish, understated, and sophisticated niche brands are a much better fit for me."
Gu Qingning couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the guy...
They first arrived at a clothing boutique said to have a history of over two hundred years in Italy.
Inside the store, Yu Zhiming ran into an acquaintance.
It was Qin Jue, the daughter of his mentor Qi Yue’s friend, Qin Mao.
She was picking out clothes with a man in his early thirties who wore glasses and was about five-foot-ten.
During this unexpected encounter, Yu Zhiming noticed a flash of embarrassment on Qin Jue’s face.
He could tell from her expression that she knew he was aware of her pregnancy from back then.
Yu Zhiming had been thinking of pretending not to know her, but after her initial awkwardness, Qin Jue came over to greet him.
"Dr. Yu, hello!"
"This is my friend, Ren Mingyi. He’s a fund manager at a securities firm."
Qin Jue introduced the man beside her, then began sizing up Yu Xiangwan and Gu Qingning next to Yu Zhiming.
Yu Zhiming had no choice but to make introductions. "This is my twin sister, Yu Xiangwan, and this is our friend, Gu Qingning."
He then smiled at Ren Mingyi and introduced himself. "I’m Yu Zhiming, a doctor at Huashan Hospital!"
Ren Mingyi noticed the change in Qin Jue’s expression when she saw Yu Zhiming and understood there was some history between them.
He also saw that Yu Zhiming’s build and looks surpassed his own, but his clothes were quite plain.
His outfit could even be described as a bit shabby.
Ren Mingyi pushed up the frame of his glasses, a smile filling his face. "Dr. Yu, and ladies, good evening!"
After a brief pause, he added casually, "I was originally going to take Qin Jue to the Gucci store just next door to buy clothes, but she said she prefers the clothes at this store."
"But we’ve looked around and haven’t found anything suitable. We’re planning to go check out Gucci after all."
"And what about you three?"
Just as Yu Zhiming was about to reply, Gu Qingning cut in, "We came here specifically to pick out some clothes for Zhiming."
"He’s attending a signing ceremony tomorrow as the project lead for a major medical research project with an investment of several hundred million."
"Zhiming never pays much attention to his clothes, so Sister Xiang Wan and I had to drag him here."
"A medical research project worth hundreds of millions? And he’s the project lead?" Ren Mingyi’s lip curled, his disbelief obvious.
Gu Qingning smiled sweetly at Ren Mingyi and asked mockingly, "Are you really a fund manager?"
Before he could respond, Gu Qingning continued, "The fund managers I know are all very well-informed people."
"Even if their investment focus isn’t medical stocks, they wouldn’t just ignore major events in the medical world, would they?"
Gu Qingning linked her arm with Yu Zhiming’s and challenged him, "You don’t even recognize Dr. Yu Zhiming here beside me? I refuse to believe his name hasn’t come up at all in your securities firm’s recent briefing and analysis meetings."
"Don’t tell me you don’t even have the clearance to attend those meetings?"
Ren Mingyi’s face flushed bright red. He said, flustered and annoyed, "I attend all of the company’s information analysis meetings..."
Gu Qingning cut him off again. "Since you attend them, you must know that Ning’an Shares, one of the major pharmaceutical stocks, is making a big move."
"Tomorrow, Ning’an Stock will most likely hit its limit up."
Ren Mingyi nodded. "Of course I know that. Ning’an Shares is one of the company stocks we monitor closely."
Gu Qingning scoffed. "If you knew Ning’an was likely to hit its limit up tomorrow, how could you not know that it’s related to tomorrow’s project signing ceremony?"
"And that it has everything to do with Dr. Yu Zhiming right here beside me?"
Ren Mingyi stammered, at a loss for words. Seeing Qin Jue also giving him a suspicious look, he was forced to explain, "My specialty is information technology stocks."
"I’m relatively unfamiliar with medical stocks."
A mocking expression appeared on Gu Qingning’s face, but she said nothing more.
Yu Zhiming pulled Qin Jue aside.
"Qin Jue, that Ren Mingyi’s heart rate and breathing clearly accelerated just now. It shows he’s lying."
"You should probably be careful."
Qin Jue nodded. "He was introduced by a distant acquaintance of my father’s. It seems he’s not all he’s cracked up to be."
"That sharp-tongued Gu Qingning?"
Yu Zhiming quickly explained, "We’re just ordinary friends. She mostly gets along with my sister!"
Qin Jue chuckled softly, then changed the subject. "I’ve been seeing and hearing a lot about you lately."
"It’s only been two months, and seeing you again, you’ve already changed so drastically."
"If only back then..."
Qin Jue suddenly stopped herself.
In the end, it was Yu Zhiming who had rejected her back then, even though she hadn’t been interested in him at the time either.
"Let’s not talk about the past."
Qin Jue let out a long breath and said, "I’ve decided to settle down. I’ll find someone decent and get married."
"Dr. Yu, I hope your research project is a success. I wish you better and faster progress in your career."
Yu Zhiming replied politely, "Thank you! I also hope you find a boyfriend you truly love soon..."
After Qin Jue and Ren Mingyi left, Yu Zhiming changed clothes in the fitting room while answering the curious questions from his sister and Gu Qingning outside.
The moment he stepped out of the fitting room, he saw his sister and Gu Qingning with their mouths half-open and their eyes shining.
"So, what do you think?"
Yu Zhiming was wearing a semi-formal, light blue outfit. The style was perfect for occasions that had a dress code but weren’t overly strict.
Yu Zhiming was six feet tall, with a straight but slightly slim build—a classic "clothes hanger" figure.
Dressed in the new clothes, he looked even more outstanding and distinguished.
Gu Qingning couldn’t help but exclaim, "Zhiming, I knew it! Blue suits you best. The moment I saw this outfit, I thought it would be perfect for you."
"And I was right!"
"Sister Xiang Wan, doesn’t Zhiming look so much more handsome? And so much more charming?"
Yu Xiangwan nodded repeatedly. "Indeed. It’s just as they say, ’clothes make the man, and the saddle makes the horse.’ My Fifth Brother just changed his clothes and turned into a peerlessly dashing gentleman."
"Qingning, you really have a much better eye for fashion than I do."
Yu Zhiming couldn’t resist chiming in, "You’ve got it backward. It’s not the clothes, it’s mainly my great build and good looks."
"A lot of people wouldn’t look like a crown prince even if you dressed them in a dragon robe."
Yu Xiangwan and Gu Qingning exchanged a smile and brought Yu Zhiming a second outfit...
Yu Zhiming tried on six outfits at the two boutiques and ended up buying three complete sets, including shirts, belts, pants, and leather shoes.
It cost him a little over 24,000, averaging 8,000 per outfit.
After they finished shopping, it was already past 8:30 PM.
Yu Zhiming splurged once more, treating his Fourth Sister and Gu Qingning to a French dinner at a nearby restaurant.
That cost him another nearly 2,000.
Yu Zhiming muttered to himself. ’Am I becoming a spendthrift, just as my eldest sister said? But then again, I did make a hundred thousand today. From an income versus expense perspective, my earnings far exceed my spending!’
Having not had a single drop of alcohol, Yu Zhiming drove his Fourth Sister and Gu Qingning back to their residence.
Just as they were approaching the Zijin Garden District, Yu Zhiming received a call from his mentor, Qi Yue.
"Zhiming, come to the hospital..."
