After dinner, the giant stone platform in the center of the village was illuminated by the flickering light of torches.

Ade stood atop the stone, the firelight reflecting off his young, tender, yet resolute face.

"Those who are willing to join me in eradicating the Void Beasts and restoring peace to the world, please step forward!"

Hundreds of villagers gathered upon hearing his call. They looked up at Ade; on their faces, weathered and tormented by life, there was not a shred of hope to be seen—only helpless resignation and compromise.

Some villagers whispered amongst themselves down below.

"Fight the Void Beasts? Do I look like I have a death wish?"

"Exactly. Unlike Ade, we weren’t born with supernatural powers. We’re just ordinary people."

"It’s hard enough just staying alive. Why ask for more suffering?"

Ade waited for a long time, but the area beneath the stone platform remained dead silent. His tightly clenched fists gradually loosened, and the light in his eyes slowly dimmed.

"Is there no one?"

Just then, four small, thin figures pushed their way through the crowd and climbed the gravel steps onto the platform.

Leading them was Tsunayashiro Kyōen, standing tall and distinct from the rest. Beneath his slender eyelids hid a sharpness that belied his age.

"Brother Ade, I’m here. From now on, we fight together!"

"I, Shiba Enjō, am willing to fight by your side until the very end of my life!"

The boy with short, fiery hair clenched his fists, flashing a confident smile!

Kuchiki Kyō’s face looked exceptionally refined in the firelight. He gave Ade a firm nod.

"Ade, I will fight alongside you to the very last moment!"

The last one was a timid little girl, the little princess of the village, Shihōin Yoruha!

She wrung her fingers, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s buzzing.

"Brother Ade, I... can I try?"

The villagers below erupted in an uproar.

"The children are still so young!"

Someone shouted at the Village Chief.

"Village Chief, the entire new generation is up there! Please talk some sense into them!"

The old Village Chief stepped forward, leaning heavily on his cane, his sharp gaze sweeping over the suddenly silent crowd.

"How much longer do you all think we can eke out a living down here in the dark?"

A dead silence instantly fell over the cavern.

The fluorescent moss on the rock walls flickered intermittently, illuminating faces filled with deep anguish. The tree roots nearby had long been dug up, and the groundhogs and earthworms were growing scarcer by the day. Perhaps in three months, or even just one month, they would literally starve to death.

"Rather than living a lowly life like groundhogs, it’s better to risk it all in a desperate fight! Count me in!" a limping man suddenly shouted.

"That’s right! We’re going to die anyway; we might as well change the way we live!"

"But the children..."

"Don’t we still have a divine being like Lord Alex?"

Someone looked toward Alex, who was standing quietly in the shadows.

"I heard he is a god sent by the heavens."

...

Alex gazed at the four youths on the stone platform. Their eyes held a mixture of fear and excitement, and beneath their tattered robes lay a vibrant, pulsing vitality.

He couldn’t help but marvel inwardly: the will of the world truly was wondrous. These four were undoubtedly the progenitors of the Four Great Noble Families of the Bleach universe.

’Wait, strange. Why do I remember there being Five Great Noble Families?’

Never mind. The day Shion would pass the Pope’s title to him was drawing ever closer. The time he could remain in this world was running out.

As long as he could teach them the foundations of the Quincy Power and the Shinigami Power, his mission of forging a civilization would be considered complete.

Ultimately, the path of the Bleach universe would have to be walked by these five youths themselves!
