Chapter 67: Chapter 34: Enemy of the World, The Underground Village (Part 1)
As his Cosmo ignited, the domain of Absolute Zero surrounding Alex expanded outward like a blooming ice lotus.
But this time, the white halos collided not with a few scattered behemoths, but with an overwhelming, sky-blotting tide of shadows.
Tens of millions of monsters surged from every corner of the world. The cloudy, milky eyeballs embedded in their fleshy tumors glinted under the chaotic, murky sky, making it seem as if the entire earth had suddenly come alive.
Roar!
The deafening roars converged into a massive sonic wave, its sheer pressure causing the very air to tremble.
The vanguard of monsters plunged into the rings of frost, instantly freezing into translucent statues. However, the subsequent waves of beasts simply trampled over the remains of their own kind to continue the charge. The sharp, cracking sounds of shattering ice sculptures and fresh, ferocious roars intertwined into a symphony of absolute despair.
Even more bizarrely, those shattered ice fragments began to writhe the very moment they hit the ground. White bones and shadowy flesh burrowed out from the icy dregs, reassembling themselves. In the blink of an eye, the pulverized void beasts were completely restored, rejoining the ranks of the endless charge.
Alex’s ice-blue Cosmo surged and receded like the tide. He had already lost count of how many monsters he had flash-frozen and shattered. All he knew was that as far as the eye could see, there was a relentless, unending black torrent.
The boundary line between the white halos of frost and the inky black sea of beasts traced an eerie circle upon the earth—creating the astonishing spectacle of a single human besieged by tens of millions of monsters.
"Is the entire world filled with these things? If this continues, there is absolutely zero chance of acquiring any Divinity. As expected, the difficulty of trailblazing a primordial world is vastly greater than hunting down Fallen Reincarnators."
Alex had actually attempted to communicate with these monsters. He originally hypothesized that they might be the native lifeforms of this world.
However, the beasts were completely devoid of reason, utterly eliminating any possibility of communication.
It was worth noting that Alex was a Hunter equipped with the Universal Language Module. If these creatures possessed even a single shred of sanity, Alex would have been able to conduct a basic exchange with them.
Realizing they couldn’t break through the rings of frost, many of the void beasts actually began to frantically devour their own kind.
Smaller monsters were ripped to pieces by the slightly larger ones. Inky black blood seeped into the sand as the bodies of the devourers expanded at a visible rate—twenty meters, thirty meters...
The largest among them had actually grown to fifty meters in height. The fleshy tumors on its back fused into a single, massive eye, and its resistance to the Absolute Zero was noticeably enhanced. When the frost rings slammed into it, the rate at which it froze was slowed by nearly half.
If this continued, it was highly likely they would birth an ultimate monster capable of completely ignoring his Absolute Domain. Alex was just about to activate the power of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit to transform into lightning and completely shake off the horde.
Suddenly, in a gap within the horde directly in front of him, stood a diminutive humanoid creature. Of course, its small stature was only relative when compared to the sky-blotting behemoths.
The creature’s right hand radiated a faint, spectral blue glow. Alex’s domain of Absolute Zero, upon reaching within half a meter of the figure, acted as if it had slammed into an invisible wall. The white ice crystals hovered in mid-air, unable to advance even a single inch further.
"This is..."
Alex’s pupils contracted sharply. This was the first time he had ever encountered an entity capable of completely warding off Absolute Zero.
His vigilance instantly maxed out. The power of lightning surged into both of his hands, the crackling golden arcs illuminating his stern, cold profile.
"Excuse me, are you a god? Are you here to save us?"
A tender, childish voice pierced through the cacophony of the roaring horde, carrying a trace of timid anticipation.
’An intelligent lifeform?’ Alex felt a wave of relief and dissipated the power of lightning from his hands.
"Who are you? Are there other intelligent lifeforms like you in this world?"
The humanoid creature trotted through the horde of beasts, allowing Alex to finally see its appearance clearly. It had the delicate, handsome face of a young boy. However, within each eye socket sat four distinct eyeballs, their pupils a crystal-clear, spectral blue.
The young boy looked up at Alex’s chiseled, impeccably sculpted face. After a brief pause, he finally spoke.
"Yes, we exist. God, please follow me!"
Gripping Alex with his icy-cold left hand, the boy turned and began to run forward.
The spectral blue glow from his right hand never faded. Any monster that lunged at them would abruptly grind to a halt exactly half a meter away, as if frozen in place by an invisible manipulation of space and time. Yet, Alex and the boy were able to weave through them completely unhindered.
Weaving through the dense, overlapping layers of the beast horde, the boy led him to a concealed cave entrance. The opening was completely obstructed by a massive boulder; had it not been for the boy’s guidance, it would have been virtually impossible to spot.
