Chapter 42: Chapter 21: The Seven-Day Legend, The Ice Age! (Part 2)
The corpses surrounding the temple were piled high like a mountain. The alloy armor of high-tier zombies intertwined with the rotting bones of ordinary ones, and at the very peak of the gruesome mound, the mutilated upper half of a Divine Dragon was impaled.
The so-called "Divine Dragon" Prince Bourne had boasted about was nothing more than a colossal, virus-infected earthworm. Now frozen solid into jagged ice, it jutted out from the pile of corpses, towering toward the clouds.
Over the past three days, the zombie armies swarming in from across the globe had never ceased their assault.
Some charged on mutated hyenas, others launched surprise attacks from underground, and high priests even sacrificed their own lifeblood to summon the wrath of the heavens.
But before Alex, all these attacks were nothing more than child’s play.
Bolstered by the absolute might of lightning and frost, not a single zombie managed to breach within a hundred meters of him.
The temple had now become a forbidden zone. No living creature dared to approach within miles; only the wind, carrying the pungent stench of charred flesh, swirled across the plaza.
Upon hearing the steady, rhythmic sound of approaching footsteps, Alex deactivated his domain of lightning and frost.
He slowly opened his eyes. Before long, a group of primitive-looking people clad in animal skins and woven leaves appeared in his line of sight.
Their skin was tanned a deep bronze, and their hands gripped heavily rusted axes and spears. Yet, there was no fear in their eyes—only a near-fanatical, devout reverence.
Upon seeing the electric arcs flowing around Alex’s body and the mountainous piles of mutilated zombie remains surrounding him...
...the entire group fell to their knees in unison. They pressed their foreheads against the cold ground, chanting an ancient, wordless melody!
Several hours later, the roar of jet engines echoed from the horizon. A commercial airliner, its fuselage covered in rust, wobbled precariously as it glided over the roof of the temple.
Its fuel was practically depleted, and the fuselage bucked violently in the turbulent air currents, clearly having lost all control.
Inside the cabin, children pressed their faces against the windows, peering down. When they saw the figure wreathed in lightning at the center of the plaza, along with the humans who had arrived before them, bright smiles blossomed on their innocent faces.
"Mom, look! It’s God!"
A little girl with pigtails pointed at the ground, her voice as clear and crisp as a wind chime.
Her mother held her tightly, staring at that golden figure through the cracked window as tears blurred her vision.
"Yes, sweetie. Humanity has its own God now. Even if... even if we’re about to go to Heaven, we can leave this world with a smile."
Trailing thick black smoke, the airliner plummeted toward the ground, mere moments away from a fatal crash.
Alex raised his hand and conjured a massive runway of solid frost. It gently caught the plummeting aircraft, allowing it to slide smoothly along the icy surface until it safely came to a complete halt.
The moment the cabin doors flew open, the survivors stumbled out in a rush. As soon as their feet touched the solid earth, they looked toward Alex in the center of the plaza and simultaneously fell to their knees!
...
On the very last second of the seventh day, the massive bronze bell in the temple plaza let out a deep, resonant toll. The sound waves crashed against the ruined walls, kicking up clouds of fine dust.
Alex slowly opened his eyes, surveying the sea of people surging within the temple grounds.
There were far more human survivors left in the world than Alex had anticipated. In just seven short days, tens of thousands of people from across the globe had gathered at the temple.
Alex took a deep breath. The surrounding air temperature plummeted instantly, and the moisture inside the temple condensed into fine ice crystals.
Without Alex making any overt movements, a visible torrent of frigid air erupted from the perimeter of the temple. It crawled swiftly up the surrounding walls, intertwining at the apex to form a colossal, domed ice shield.
Crack! Crunch!
The transparent ice barrier expanded at an astonishing speed, blossoming outward like a massive crystal flower.
The walls of ice were as smooth as mirrors, reflecting the awe-struck faces of tens of thousands of people, completely isolating humanity from the mountains of corpses and the scorched earth outside.
Sharp icicles condensed at the peak of the ice dome, refracting the rays of the rising morning sun. They cast mottled bands of light onto the ground, looking as though a crystal-clear Noah’s Ark had been constructed to shelter humanity.
"Stay inside. Do not step out!"
Alex shot straight into the sky.
From his private dimensional space, he retrieved the Sagittarius Gold Cloth.
The Gold Cloth box opened automatically under the sunlight. The twelve components of the armor levitated in mid-air, their stardust patterns lighting up in tandem with the burning of Alex’s Cosmo.
Sensing Alex’s fiercely blazing Cosmo, the Sagittarius Gold Cloth instantly disassembled and autonomously equipped itself onto his body.
The Sagittarius crest on the breastplate radiated a blinding golden light, and the majestic golden wings flared open on his back.
Every single golden feather hummed with the condensed power of the stars. The helmet’s visor slid down to conceal half his face, revealing only a pair of indifferent eyes that burned with the radiant brilliance of his Cosmo.
As the Gold Cloth perfectly resonated with his Cosmo, Alex almost thought he could hear the faint sigh of the former Sagittarius Saint, Aiolos.
"This sinful world... it is time for it to end."
Alex raised both hands high above his head, his Cosmo burning with absolute madness within his body!
Beneath his feet, the moisture in the troposphere flash-froze in an instant, forming a massive layer of ice crystal clouds that stretched across the sky. The sheer volume of these clouds expanded until they blanketed the entire planet.
Every single zombie on Earth was suddenly gripped by the overwhelming sensation of an impending apocalypse.
Alex’s voice echoed through the sky, carrying a majestic authority powerful enough to shake the very planet:
"Perish!"
"Aquarius’s Ultimate Technique: Aurora Execution!"
