Chapter 41: Chapter 21: The Seven-Day Legend, The Ice Age! (Part 1)
The night was as dark as ink. The moment the full moon broke free from the clouds, every living creature on Earth had their breath stolen by the anomaly in the sky.
At some unknown moment, the surface of the moon had been covered in a layer of frost. The words carved from ice crystals shone like diamonds, casting a cold, clear radiance over the earth.
Each character was hundreds of kilometers long, as if a god had used moonlight to carve a divine decree onto the firmament.
"To all surviving free humans: Make your way to the Temple. I will recreate this world and purge all zombies. You have seven days!"
"The countdown begins now. Seven days!"
Alex had not chosen the seven-day deadline at random.
Whether it was God creating the world in the Bible or the myth of Nuwa molding humanity from clay, both legends spanned exactly seven days. The number seven concealed the underlying laws of the universe.
Seven days served as a final, desperate chance for the zombie civilization to struggle, and simultaneously, as a test for human civilization.
In this world utterly dominated by zombies, if there were still free humans tenaciously clinging to survival, Alex was willing to grant them these seven days.
As long as someone could reach the temple within this timeframe, he would carve out a path of survival for humanity!
...
A group of zombie priests, who were enjoying a feast of human flesh under the moonlight, suddenly froze. They raised their heads and looked toward the sky.
The clouds had parted, and the words on the moon forced their way into their line of sight with an almost tyrannical presence.
"What is that? Who could possibly do such a thing?"
The guttural roars died in the zombies’ throats. For the first time, an emotion called fear was reflected in their rotting eye sockets.
The zombies conducting their divine rituals beneath the moon stared up at the sky. As they gazed at the words forged from ice, their ashen skin actually began to secrete a black sweat.
"Words of Creation? Has the majesty of God King Arthur... been provoked by a human?"
The eldest zombie priest slammed his scepter heavily into the ground.
"Notify all clans! Dispatch every warrior to the temple at once. This is no joke!"
Inside the royal palace, Prince Bourne’s mutilated remains had just been pieced back together by the priests using a regenerative virus.
When he looked up and saw the message on the moon, his newly reconstructed body began to violently convulse.
"It’s him! It has to be that human!"
"He’s trying to overthrow the Divine Race! He is forcing our hand!"
Meanwhile, in a free human tribe hidden deep within the Amazon rainforest, a young boy clad in animal skins suddenly pointed at the sky, his voice cracking with sheer excitement.
"Look! What’s that?"
The tribe members emerged from their tree hollows one by one, looking up at the bright moonlight piercing through the jungle canopy.
When he clearly read the words, the tribe’s leader—who had once fought in the Resistance—suddenly fell to his knees, tears welling up in his cloudy eyes.
"It’s... it’s a miracle! The God of Humanity has finally arrived!"
Inside a shelter deep within the London Underground, a black man was scanning his surroundings through binoculars. When he spotted the words declaring the seven-day genesis on the moon...
...the binoculars slipped from his grasp, clattering loudly against the ground.
He stumbled as he scrambled back into the shelter.
"My father’s words have come true! A God has truly appeared!"
The people inside the shelter instantly poured out onto the surface. When they clearly saw the massive text stretching across the moon, some fell to their knees to kiss the train tracks, while others hugged their children, weeping uncontrollably.
"Robert didn’t lie to us!"
A white-haired woman gently stroked a photograph pinned to the wall. It showed a black man accompanied by a dog, facing off against an endless horde of zombies.
It was the final image of Robert Neville before he died in battle.
The woman could still vividly remember Robert’s final words.
"Hold on. I believe that one day, hope will arrive for humanity."
A trace of profound relief washed over her haggard, aged face.
"Robert Neville... do you see this? I held on until the very end. Just like you promised, a miracle really did happen!"
...
Three days later, the plaza in front of the God King’s Palace had become a literal slaughterhouse.
Alex sat cross-legged, levitating in the center of the plaza, surrounded by a surging field of golden electricity.
Lightning coiled around his body like massive chain. Every time an electric arc struck the ground, it blasted a charred, deep crater into the white marble paving.
