Chapter 35: Chapter 18: Slaughter, The History of the Zombie Race! (Part 1)
Even with only a head remaining, Prince Bourne was still not dead. He let out an indistinct, guttural roar.
"G-guards!"
"My King!"
"King Bourne is being attacked by a human!"
After a brief, dead silence, the zombie guards in the hall instantly exploded into a frenzy.
Deafening roars erupted from their throats. Firearms from the old era and cold steel weapons were simultaneously aimed at Alex.
"Avenge the King!"
The zombies in the front row raised their automatic rifles. The moment they pulled the triggers, countless bullets poured down on Alex like a torrential rain.
Clink! Clink! Clink!
The dense barrage of bullets struck Alex, but it was like hitting a alloy steel plate. They were instantly deflected, ricocheting and clattering onto the obsidian floor tiles.
Weapons capable of tearing carbon-based organisms to shreds couldn’t even pierce Alex’s skin, let alone leave a single white scratch.
Several zombies wielding swords and spears charged forward. When their cold weapons slashed against Alex’s shoulders, the harsh sound of edges chipping and rolling immediately rang out. The blades bent and deformed like pieces of paper.
Seeing that physical attacks were completely ineffective, the zombies roared in fury.
"Quick, invite the High Priest!"
"What kind of monster is he? Send a distress signal to the Royal Capital immediately!"
High Priest?
It seemed the zombie civilization in this Reincarnation World had indeed developed quite well, possessing a complete hierarchy ranging from a God King down to priests.
Would a real god actually appear in the end?
Ever since obtaining the Sagittarius Gold Cloth, Alex had been wanting to test what it would feel like to kill a god with the God-Slaying Arrow.
Before long, the side doors of the hall were pushed open, and several emaciated zombies clad in black and gold robes walked in.
Their robes were embroidered with dark red skull patterns. They clutched staffs polished from human bones, with eerie green crystals embedded at the top.
Upon entering the hall, these priests lowered their heads and began chanting in hoarse voices. Obscure syllables hovered in the air, and the human bone artifacts in their hands gradually began to glow with a bizarre purple light.
"Divine Judgment!"
The leading priest abruptly raised his staff. Twisted waves of energy shot toward Alex like living snakes.
Alex simply raised his hand. A ring of ice instantly condensed in front of him. The ice wall seemed as thin as a cicada’s wing, yet it shimmered with a faint blue light. When the energy waves crashed into the ice wall, they dissipated instantly, like mud dissolving in the ocean.
"It seems your abilities are limited to this!"
Alex’s eyes turned cold. Having witnessed the full extent of the zombies’ abilities and confirming that the distress signal could be sent out, these guys before him had completely lost their usefulness.
He slowly clenched his open palm into a fist. Using his body as the epicenter, a visible white shockwave abruptly expanded outward!
Crack!
White frost swept through the entire underground palace like a rampant virus. Wherever it passed, the moisture in the air instantly condensed into frost flowers.
The indoor temperature plummeted from normal room temperature to over a hundred degrees below zero. The zombies’ roars came to a screeching halt as their bodies rapidly stiffened in the extreme cold, ultimately turning into solid ice sculptures.
In less than ten seconds, the massive underground royal palace fell into a deathly silence. All the human-bone oil lamps hanging on the walls were extinguished. Only the layer of ice reflected a faint light, making the place resemble a frozen wasteland in the dead of night.
Alex walked forward, stepping over the frost-covered ground. The ice let out faint cracking sounds beneath his feet.
He bent down and picked up Prince Bourne’s severed head, casually crushing the layer of ice covering it.
As a descendant of the God King, Bourne’s vitality was indeed tenacious; he was actually still alive after enduring such a freezing shockwave.
His cloudy eyes flickered with a faint light. The arrogant pride from before was completely gone from his face, replaced only by a thick, overwhelming terror.
"P-Powerful human, please spare me!"
Bourne’s teeth chattered, his voice filled with flattering subservience.
"I am God King Arthur’s most beloved grandson. If you spare my life, my grandfather will give you anything you want!"
"Oh? That’s wonderful."
Alex grabbed him by the hair, turned around, and began walking back toward the surface.
