Chapter 113: Chapter 57: The Shirtless, Blind God of War; Deathmask (Part 1)
The reason Alex guided Shiryu instead of transmitting a message to his good student, Hyoga, was simply that he couldn’t stand watching Shiryu’s performance any longer.
The current Shiryu was staring with wide, dark, clueless eyes. He was wearing his Dragon Bronze Cloth perfectly intact, completely lacking the valiant, heroic bearing of the shirtless, blind, tattooed God of War.
In truth, besides being Saints, Shiryu and Dohko shared a hidden identity: they were inheritors of the Diaodaoshi lineage.
This lineage revered the power of nature, accumulating power within their bodies through daily training. The Dragon tattoo on Shiryu’s back was the external manifestation of this natural power. This power had a specific name: the Ink Cloth!
The so-called Ink Cloth could be understood as a different version of a Cloth. By stimulating the tattoo, they could unleash power far surpassing their usual limits.
However, the prerequisite for activating the Ink Cloth was that one must be bare-chested, allowing the tattoo to directly commune with the spiritual energy residing on earth. Therefore, although the Bronze Cloth was strong, it was actually a burden to Shiryu, severely hindering the display of his true strength!
Aside from the Diaodaoshi inheritance, Shiryu had another hidden talent: he grew stronger whenever he went blind.
Currently, he was wearing his Dragon Cloth perfectly fine, his eyes wide and bright. In this state, he wasn’t even utilizing half of his full strength. If he stayed like this, let alone attacking Hades’ Elysium in the future, he probably wouldn’t even be able to break through the Twelve Zodiac Temples today.
Inside the Gemini Temple, Shiryu and Hyoga stood amidst distorted light and shadows. The surrounding scenery shifted erratically between the familiar Five Old Peaks of Mount Lu and the freezing snowfields of Siberia.
In these familiar scenes, Dohko, Shunrei, and Hyoga’s mother were encountering various tragic misfortunes. The fluctuations of the illusion caused both of their Cosmos to become chaotic.
Suddenly, Shiryu’s body stiffened. A trace of astonishment flashed through his dark eyes, quickly replaced by renewed determination.
"Shiryu, what’s wrong?" Hyoga noticed his unusual reaction.
Shiryu took a deep breath, his voice carrying a barely perceptible tremor. "I heard someone speaking in my mind. He said that we can only pass through the Gemini Temple smoothly if we abandon the influence of our five senses."
"Abandon the five senses?"
Hyoga recalled Alex once teaching him that the five senses could sometimes become a hindrance to a Saint. As a Saint of Ice, one could use freezing abilities to freeze their own sympathetic nervous system, thereby severing the external senses’ misleading signals to the brain.
But this technique was extremely dangerous. If not controlled properly, it could likely damage the brain, turning the user completely into a vegetative state with no possibility of ever waking up.
"If there’s no other way, I’ll just have to use this technique." Hyoga gritted his teeth, a trace of resolve flashing in his blue eyes.
He planned to attempt freezing his own sympathetic nervous system. If he failed, at least Shiryu could continue forward to save Miss Saori.
"Shiryu, I have a technique that can break through this predicament, but..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Shiryu suddenly straightened his back, his gaze becoming incomparably sharp.
"So you thought of it too? Hyoga, let me do it. I have been practicing my hearing to identify locations under the great waterfall since childhood. Even if I lose my eyes, it won’t affect my combat strength in the slightest."
"Wait a minute, Shiryu, the method I was talking about..."
Before Hyoga could finish, Shiryu raised two fingers and violently plunged them into his own eyes!
Hyoga tried to stop him, but Shiryu’s speed was incredibly fast. Both eyeballs ruptured instantly, and blood slowly flowed down his eye sockets...
Looking at the winding trails of blood on Shiryu’s face, a profound sense of respect welled up in Hyoga’s heart.
After his eyes were destroyed, the intensity of Shiryu’s Cosmo instantly skyrocketed...
