Chapter 999: Chapter 984: Trip to the Police Station (Part 2)
"Let’s go, check out that room!" Old Xu waved his hand and walked ahead.
Arriving at the adjacent room, Old Xu peeked outside.
To the left was the inner street, swaying with numerous zombies.
To the right was an endless expanse of wilderness.
Only straight ahead lay Old Xu’s target.
The estimated distance between the houses was about 1 meter. If a suitable bridging material could be found, they could climb over and thus avoid the zombies outside.
With this in mind, Old Xu immediately turned around. Upon seeing Old Xu looking around everywhere, Hua Biao curiously asked, "Captain, what are you looking for?"
Old Xu briefly explained his idea to Hua Biao, who promptly responded, "There’s a long plank downstairs, quite sturdy, suitable for bridging."
"Let’s go! Bring it up!" Old Xu instantly agreed, then followed Hua Biao downstairs. Together they carried one end of the plank each and lifted it to the second floor.
Reaching the window, Old Xu carefully pushed the plank out, feeling fortunate that it was just the right size for the window width. If it had been slightly wider, it might not have fit through.
To avoid attracting the attention of the creatures downstairs, Old Xu moved very carefully. It took him more than three minutes to cover just over a meter.
Once the plank was successfully sent to the opposite window sill, Old Xu immediately ordered, "I’ll go across, you stay here and guard."
"Yes!" Hua Biao simply nodded in response without any extra words.
Securing his knife in the sheath behind his back, Old Xu carefully checked his gear to avoid any noise from accidental collisions during the climb.
Once everything was set, he swiftly climbed onto the window and leaned out.
The plank wasn’t very wide, approximately 70-80 centimeters. Walking across was still quite challenging, requiring one to maintain a crawling position and overcome the psychological fear of heights and zombies. However, for a military veteran like Old Xu, this wasn’t a problem!
Like a frequent visitor to the "familiar place," Old Xu’s agile body easily completed the meter-long journey.
Upon reaching the opposite window, he began to poke open the outer screen and then unlocked the inner latch.
It should be noted that it was fortunate the apocalypse broke out during the scorching summer. Otherwise, in winter, opening the window like this without making noise would have been tricky, if not impossible.
He pushed the window open and leapt inside the room.
Once inside, he immediately surveyed the area and signaled an "OK" gesture to Hua Biao across the way.
Afterward, Old Xu quickly left and began checking each room’s condition.
The house was a typical two-story village building. After a thorough inspection, Old Xu found nothing unusual.
Though there were signs of bloody struggle inside, there was no trace of zombies.
After gently closing the slightly ajar door downstairs, Old Xu went to the side room and began scouting the target location: the patrol station.
As Derek had said, the patrol station was quite grand. A four-story building might not be much in a city, but in this remote area, it was quite luxurious.
There was a wall in front of the building, its gate already broken. Two police cars blocked the entrance.
From the bloodstains and bodies behind the cars, it was evident that zombies had already "rampaged" inside the patrol station. It was unclear whether this happened before or after the cars blocked the entrance.
However, having come this far and used up so much gasoline, Old Xu had no reason to turn back.
As the saying goes, to catch the tiger, one must venture into its den. For the long-term peace of the base, necessary risks were needed.
Besides, as long as actions were cautious, Old Xu believed no major mishaps would occur. After all, he had just successfully reached this building.
Carefully examining the opposite building, the patrol station was about 3-4 meters away from Old Xu’s position. In other words, attempting to use "bridging" to reach it was unrealistic.
If the aerial route was impossible, then they had to travel on the ground.
Old Xu leaned out the window as much as possible. Indeed, there were no zombies in the alley below. With smart use, they might be able to climb into the patrol station using ropes.
"Yes, that’s the plan!" Once decided, Old Xu acted swiftly, returning to the window where he entered and signaled to Hua Biao his plan with a series of gestures.
Seeing this, Hua Biao quickly left, and ten minutes later, Hu Xiaodong and others waiting outside the street climbed over one after another.
Once everyone gathered, Old Xu concisely explained the situation at the patrol station to the group.
He then summarized his plan again, to which no one objected.
Wei Dazhuang handed over a special rope from his back. It was a "good thing" Old Xu and others had retrieved earlier from a military supply store.
Due to the special nature of their actions, it hadn’t been of much use until now.
Under Old Xu’s lead, the group came to the action window in a grand manner.
Old Xu signaled for Hu Xiaodong to deal with a few swaying zombies below first, then let the rope fall freely.
Once done, he explained the rappelling techniques to everyone, then demonstrated by descending to the ground.
"Next, it’s your turn, Qiang!" Hua Biao patted Wang Qiang on the shoulder, and Wang Qiang nodded expressionlessly.
Climbing to the window, attaching the rope, descending, Wang Qiang completed it smoothly.
Old Xu wasn’t surprised by this. Considering the height of the floor, even jumping directly wouldn’t be too dangerous with the right technique. Besides, all team members were fully equipped, with specialized cut-resistant gloves.
So, he wasn’t worried about anyone getting hurt.
One by one, the team members successfully reached the ground.
Once everyone was down, the last to take action was the Sharp Blade Company fighter, Hua Biao.
Using a special rope-tying technique, Old Xu easily pulled the rope tied to the drainage pipe inside the house free.
Afterward, Old Xu leapt like a Spiritual Monkey, successfully scaling the 3-meter-high patrol station wall.
This is skill, this is ability, this is the result of consistent training in the rain and wind for Huaxia soldiers.
After getting on the wall, Old Xu signaled for Hua Biao to pass the rope over, and Hua Biao smoothly tossed it to Old Xu after a couple of swings.
Old Xu caught it and dropped inside the patrol station like an orangutan, then tugged the rope to signal to the team outside: You can come in.
Climbing was evidently much harder than rappelling. It required not only great balance but also a test of full-body strength.
In the past, Wang Qiang might not have been able to climb the 3-meter-high wall by himself.
After all, Wang Qiang, who spent his days gaming and staying in, rarely exercised, lacking the stamina for such a challenging task. (To be continued.
