Chapter 1000: Chapter 985: Trip to the Police Station (Part 3)

However, these days are different from the past. Nearly half a year of survival in the apocalypse has long trained Wang Qiang into a man of steel and iron.

The setbacks in emotions have also made him more mature and calm.

As usual, he leads by example. Wang Qiang has no rock climbing experience; climbing stairs was usually laborious enough for him.

But now, you see him climbing walls without showing any signs of being a rookie.

Although not as light and nimble as Old Xu, by sheer strength, Wang Qiang still managed to smoothly climb the three-meter-high wall.

Next, with Hu Xiaodong and Wei Dazhuang, it goes without saying. Wei Dazhuang is naturally strong, and after years of farming, his body is already muscular.

And Hu Xiaodong, who was born an athlete, is also muscular. Moreover, he has climbing friends, so the three-meter-high wall is no problem for him.

At the rear, Hua Biao swiftly wrapped up everything. After everyone entered the wall, Old Xu led the group towards the police station building quickly.

Crouching low, the action team members moved rapidly through the chaotic courtyard of the police station. Shortly after, they arrived in front of the building.

A police van was parked in front of the building, marked with the large "Special Duty" signs indicating its purpose.

Old Xu found it curious why such a remote police station would have a SWAT vehicle.

But this was not the time to think about these things. SWAT vehicles are good stuff, and Old Xu didn’t want to miss the opportunity.

"Xiaowang!"

"Here!" Hearing Old Xu calling him, Wang Zhongyu quickly stepped forward.

Old Xu didn’t waste words and pointed at the vehicle in front of them: "Check it out. If it’s usable, we’ll drive it back!"

"Uh..." Wang Zhongyu scratched his head, a bit troubled: "Checking is no problem, but this thing has been parked for so long, I’m afraid there might be issues with starting it. If I try to start it, I fear..."

"Hmm!" Old Xu nodded, understanding Wang Zhongyu’s concern. But he still instructed: "You check first; as for whether it can be driven away, we’ll worry about that later."

"Alright!"

After assigning the task to Wang Zhongyu, Old Xu called over Hua Biao: "You stay at the door, responsible for Xiaowang’s safety. If there’s any trouble, immediately retreat into the building. Understand?"

"Understood!" Hua Biao responded crisply, then drew the cleaver and double-barreled shotgun from his back, found a spot with a clear view, and took up the lookout outside the building.

"The rest of you, follow me!"

Following Old Xu, the remaining Hu Xiaodong, Wei Dazhuang, Wang Qiang, and Derek continued moving, heading into the police station building.

Upon entering the police station, a gutted corpse first caught their eyes.

Judging by the indistinct uniform from the corpse’s clothing, Old Xu could vaguely tell it was a police uniform.

"It’s a police officer from here!" The sharp-eyed Hu Xiaodong quickly walked to a spot about 20 centimeters from the corpse and picked up an ID card, which bore the dead officer’s number, name, and relevant information.

Unfortunately, this stuff holds little meaning for the action team members.

Circumventing the corpse, Hu Xiaodong raised the compound bow in his hand. Though the corpse’s existence had little meaning, it did indicate the danger of this place from a side perspective.

To avoid sudden attacks, Old Xu did not issue a split-off action instruction.

Thus, the five formed a square formation and began to search the building layer by layer.

As expected, just as they went deeper into the first floor, Old Xu heard slight noises from the depths of the corridor. He gestured to Hu Xiaodong, hoping not to have a frontal clash with zombies to avoid making noises and attracting attention from other zombies.

Receiving the instruction, Hu Xiaodong carried the compound bow and crouched forward. After reaching the wall corner, he quickly leaned in and took a quick glance inside.

"How’s it? How many?"

"Two!" Hu Xiaodong gestured two fingers.

"Can you take them down?"

"No problem!"

After speaking, Hu Xiaodong swiftly drew an arrow and placed it into the arrow platform. In this straight, enclosed corridor, shooting targets was a piece of cake for him.

With no obstacles and no wind influence, the only thing Hu Xiaodong needed to do was stabilize his mind and then send the arrow into the zombie’s brain.

Hu Xiaodong was full of confidence in this, and the final result indeed showed he completed Old Xu’s task successfully.

Both arrows hit their targets. After confirming no other anomalies, Hu Xiaodong reported the task completion to Old Xu.

Five people resumed moving, with rooms lining both sides of the corridor. Frankly, Old Xu found it hard to understand the purpose of such a small rural police station having so many departments.

But, understanding the national situation wasn’t difficult—our strategy allows a small group of people to get rich first, then drive the rest along.

And the police station undoubtedly was a department that could get rich first, and those who got rich would usually follow through with the national plans and policies.

For instance, they would arrange jobs for their extended families in their units, allowing relatives to enjoy the rich benefits of national authority departments.

Room by room searches, although cumbersome, were actually performed quite swiftly.

Because despite many offices in the building, most were empty.

No wonder, the "later group of rich people" wouldn’t want to work in such a poor, remote place. If one person in their family reaches a high position, they can support the whole family without issue.

This forms the unique phenomenon in Huaxia Country, where a trivial matter can spawn countless departments for approval.

And with more departments comes numerous relatives holding phantom positions and earning extra income.

Yet now, these bizarre incidents have become past affairs, and what’s more laughable is that the root of solving this stubborn ailment turned out to be the bloodthirsty, carnivorous mutant zombies.

Since the rooms were empty, Old Xu’s plan to search for supplies was in vain.

After searching the first floor, they advanced to the 2nd floor, and then one layer after another, until about 15 minutes in, they finally reached the top.

Upon entering the 4th floor, the barricaded entrance immediately caught the attention of the action team members. Looking at the broken barricade, Old Xu frowned.

"Something’s up!" Hu Xiaodong also raised the compound bow immediately. The action team knew well what this situation indicated.

He gestured to Hu Xiaodong, and the latter quickly moved to the barricade, peering through the broken gap, indeed spotting about ten wandering zombies.

"What’s the situation?" Old Xu hurriedly approached.

Hu Xiaodong truthfully held up ten fingers as Old Xu furrowed his brows and then peered inside.

"Let’s take them down directly. Just ten Pacers, no need to shoot slowly with the bow!"

Already impatient, Wei Dazhuang quietly suggested; the previous third-floor search had truly frustrated him.

"Alright!" Given that the crisis had been cleared downstairs, Old Xu felt like taking action now wouldn’t be problematic, and besides, this was zombie territory. Solving the problem quickly and leaving was key.

With Old Xu’s approval, the action team promptly armed themselves and prepared for combat. (To be continued.
