Chapter 909: Why Are They Broke
Chapter 909: Chapter 909: Why Are They Broke
In the darkness, Yang Cheng’s lips curled into a cold smile.
Even before entering the room, he had used his X-ray Vision to inspect it. Behind the wall opposite the bed, there was a hidden chamber, and even before they came in, there were already people in the chamber.
So even though he had been burning with desire earlier, he held back from touching Feng Jiuge. If the two of them had indulged themselves in bed, it would have been to someone else’s advantage.
From the moment he entered this establishment, he felt that this small inn was peculiar.
The strange gaze from the lady at the front desk, the odd glance from the tenant in the hallway, and the faint musty smell in the room that concealed the scent of blood underneath.
The smell was very faint, undetectable by ordinary people, but his senses were keen, and even this subtle odor couldn’t escape his nose.
At this moment, Feng Jiuge, who was in his arms, stirred slightly, seemingly awakened by the sound and sensed something was amiss.
"Don’t make a sound."
Yang Cheng whispered in her ear, using his large hand to gently cover her mouth.
Feng Jiuge instantly became fully awake, her beautiful eyes gleaming with a wary light in the darkness, her body tensed slightly but remained calm, merely nodding lightly to show she understood.
The two exchanged a silent glance in the dark. The rapport built up over time while fighting side by side allowed them to understand each other’s intentions without words.
Pretend to be asleep!
Let’s see what the people hidden in the shadows are up to.
Cre-e-eak—— Cre-e-eak——
The sound grew clearer; it was the noise of the stone door of the hidden chamber being pushed open, the rusty hinges emitting a teeth-gritting friction noise.
Feng Jiuge closed her eyes, deliberately breathing evenly and deeply, appearing to be deeply asleep, but her hand had already reached stealthily for beneath the pillow, where she kept her trusty short blade.
Soon after, several shadows emerged in succession from behind the wall.
Yang Cheng squinted slightly, confirming there were four of them, and these people showed no signs of True Qi; just common folks.
Leading them was a short, fat man wearing a black T-shirt, his belly jiggling with every step, holding a glittering dagger in his hand, reflecting a cold light under the faint moonlight.
Three thin young men followed him, all donning dark-colored clothing, moving stealthily with practiced motions, clearly not their first time doing such a thing.
"Hurry it up, don’t wake them up."
The short, fat man commanded in a hoarse voice, sounding like a smoker of many years.
The three nodded and began searching the room skillfully.
A tall, thin one walked over to the backpacks Yang Cheng and Feng Jiuge had placed in the corner, unzipped one, rummaged through it, and frowned.
"Damn it, just poor bastards!"
He cursed softly, pulling out several changes of clothes and toiletries from the bag, throwing them to the floor, and upon searching again, indeed found nothing.
"Boss, there’s only this stuff in the bag, not even a wallet."
The tall, thin one turned his head, looking annoyed.
Another crew-cut man searched the desk and drawers, also finding nothing, "Boss, maybe they have the money on themselves?"
The short, fat man’s brows furrowed, his gaze landing on the "sleeping" pair on the bed, a hint of greed flashing in his eyes.
"Good-looking indeed, especially the woman, more beautiful than movie stars. What a waste to kill them without having some fun first."
He licked his lips, revealing yellowed teeth, his greasy smile disgusting in the darkness.
"Boss said to leave them untouched, just take the money and deal with them, no extra trouble."
The tall, thin one reminded.
"I know, I need you to tell me?"
The short, fat man glared at him, waving his hand in displeasure, "Hurry and find the money, don’t waste time."
The group resumed their search around the room, rummaging through every nook, even lifting the sheets, tearing open the pillows, still coming up empty.
Yang Cheng smirked coldly internally. These people weren’t just after the money; they wanted lives too, seasoned from experience. He wondered how many souls had perished at their hands.
"Damn, these two don’t look like they’re broke, not even a coin?"
The crew-cut man scratched his head, puzzled.
"I think they have it on them. Boss, why don’t we strip them and search?"
A man who hadn’t spoken yet chimed in, his voice sharp and slightly sleazy, "The woman’s dressed thinly, can’t hide anything under those clothes, a touch would reveal."
"You’re right."
The short, fat man’s eyes lit up, heading toward the bed, reaching out to lift the covers.
At that instant, a hand suddenly shot out from the darkness, like a steel clamp, gripping his wrist firmly.
The short, fat man’s face changed drastically, trying to break free but realizing the power of that hand was astonishing, his wrist seemed welded shut, unable to move.
"You—!"
Before he could shout, a fierce gust swept over, darkness claimed his sight as he flew backward, slamming into the wall with a thud, then slid down, curled up in pain, unable to utter a word.
"Damn!"
The tall, thin one exclaimed, instinctively reaching for the knife at his waist, but just as his hand touched the hilt, a slender yet powerful foot kicked him in the chest.
Crack—!!
The sound of ribs breaking was distinctly audible. The tall, thin one screamed, his body flying like a severed kite, crashing into the wall then slamming onto the ground, spewing a mouthful of blood.
The remaining two were terrified, turning to flee, but as soon as they took a step, they saw someone standing at the door.
Moonlight streamed through the window, outlining the figure.
Graceful, breathtakingly beautiful.
Feng Jiuge was clad in a black bodysuit, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, her features exquisite and cold, her eyes sharp like a demoness emerging from hell.
"Trying to run?"
Her lips curved into a cold smile, raising her hand with a slap.
Slap!
The sharp sound of the slap echoed in the room, the crew-cut man spun in place, two teeth flying from his mouth, dazed and crashing to the floor.
The last man with the sharp voice was so frightened his legs turned to jelly, collapsing onto the ground, hands over his head, quivering.
"Mistress, please... don’t hit me! I surrender... I surrender!"
Feng Jiuge spat disdainfully, "I disgust you! Stop trying to cozy up! Kneel properly!"
Though the commotion was quite loud, this room was designed for robbery and killing, soundproofed so thoroughly unless they destroyed it, it would hardly be heard outside.
At this moment, Yang Cheng leisurely turned on the bedside lamp, the warm yellow light illuminating the entire room.
