Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

Chapter 258: Chaos Fire Immortal Gu

  • Next Chapter

Endless Fire Domain still lacked its most important component—a core Gu capable of controlling the nine layers and maintaining balance among every flame within them.

Lin Yan fell into thought. Without question, the legendary Rank Nine Fire Gu was the most suitable Immortal Gu to serve as the core of Endless Fire Domain.

Unfortunately, Rank Nine Fire Gu was still hidden within the sun. Under normal circumstances, even a Venerable would find it extremely difficult to obtain. Only during the great era, when black and white heavens merged, the climate changed drastically, and the sun and moon exhausted enormous amounts of their accumulated power, would an opportunity arise. Until then, Fire Gu remained far beyond Lin Yan’s reach.

Fortunately, his previous self had prepared another option.

In certain aspects, this Immortal Gu might be even more suitable for Endless Fire Domain than Fire Gu itself. Lin Yan had spent much of his previous five hundred years deducing its recipe before preserving the incomplete recipe for the next timeline.

Among the most important inheritance left by his previous self were Cloud Dream Heavenly Palace, Great Dream Immortal Realm, Endless Fire Domain, and the incomplete recipe for Chaos Fire Immortal Gu.

Chaos Fire was an Otherworldly Flame Gu, but Lin Yan had never intended for it to become just another powerful Flame Path Immortal Gu. His ambition was far greater. He wanted Chaos Fire to become the core of his entire Flame Path combat system.

But what did it mean for a single Immortal Gu to stand at the center of an entire combat system?

Lin Yan had pondered this question extensively in his previous life. Immortal Gu were unique, and there were no useless Immortal Gu, only Gu Immortals who failed to properly utilize them. Yet this did not mean that every Immortal Gu possessed equal value. Some had narrow abilities and could only display their greatest effect under specific circumstances, while others possessed profundities so broad that even Gu Immortals who did not cultivate their path would desperately compete for them.

Fire Gu recorded in The Legends of Ren Zu was the clearest example. It could burn all things and use them as fuel, becoming stronger as it consumed more. As one of the earliest Gu associated with Flame Path, its ability touched upon the most fundamental nature of fire itself. Calling it one of the fundamental Gu of Flame Path was no exaggeration.

The same could be said of Water Gu, Dark Gu, and Light Gu in their respective paths. Qi Path possessed Heaven Qi, Earth Qi, and Human Qi Gu, while the most famous example related to Heaven Path was Fate Gu, whose power once governed the predetermined course of almost every living being beneath heaven.

Lin Yan possessed something similar himself. Dream Derivation Immortal Gu had formed through the condensation of external dao marks and possessed extraordinary potential. The more he used and developed it, the more convinced he became that its ability touched upon one of the fundamental profundities of Dream Path.

Yet throughout his previous life, another question had continued troubling him.

Could he create an Immortal Gu that truly belonged to him?

Not simply an Immortal Gu he refined and controlled, but one whose nature perfectly matched his cultivation and could continue developing alongside him.

Existing Immortal Gu could not satisfy this ambition. No matter how extraordinary their abilities were, each remained limited by its own nature. Dream Derivation Immortal Gu possessed unparalleled ability in deriving and creating Dream Realms, yet dreams themselves were not invincible and could even be burned by Fire Gu. Fate Gu once restrained almost every living being in the world, yet Love Gu had damaged it, while Freedom Gu represented liberation from its restraints. Even feeding such powerful Immortal Gu could require tremendous resources.

Lin Yan therefore wanted something different. He wanted to create an Immortal Gu whose food could eventually become self-sufficient, whose abilities could absorb the profundities of other paths without losing its own nature, and whose growth would follow the direction of his cultivation. As Lin Yan advanced, it would advance with him. As his understanding of the Great Dao broadened, its abilities would also continue changing. Rather than repeatedly searching for new Immortal Gu whenever his cultivation developed in another direction, he wanted one Gu that could accompany his Flame Path all the way to its ultimate limit.

For five hundred years, Lin Yan had repeatedly pursued this idea. He had even activated the Dream Path Immortal killer move A Dream of a Lifetime countless times, experiencing simulated lifetimes and testing different possibilities within dreams. Most attempts ended in failure, but every failure eliminated another wrong path and brought the idea slightly closer to completion.

Eventually, countless deductions converged into an incomplete Immortal Gu recipe.

Chaos Fire Immortal Gu.
