Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 718: No Matter What, She Will Die
Chapter 718: Chapter 718: No Matter What, She Will Die
A smirk appeared on Vivian Yates’s face as she pointed at Annabelle. "Because you’re Annabelle Linton. You don’t give up easily. This poison may not have an antidote, but it has a palliative. You’re not one to just give up, are you?"
Annabelle Linton scoffed. "So you’ve poisoned us both. You’re telling me to leave Leon Grant just so you can take my place, right? But have you considered that if I leave, I’ll die almost immediately without the antidote? Don’t you think he’ll get suspicious?"
"That’s for you to handle, Mrs. Grant."
With that, Vivian Yates stood up and walked away.
Annabelle Linton walked alone on the dark streets, crying for a long, long time.
She understood what Vivian Yates meant.
Vivian wanted to force her out and take her place.
’If I don’t agree, she’ll let Leon die right away. Then everything will be lost, and I’ll die immediately too.’
’If I agree, it means I have to let her be with Leon. She’ll keep giving him the palliative to sustain his life, while I die a slow death, all alone.’
’So either way, I’m going to die.’
’I guess I should just stall for time. For now, every extra day Leon gets to live is another chance at survival.’
Thinking this, Annabelle sank to the ground, sobbing helplessly.
Quentin Holland stood not far away, watching her cry, his heart clenching in pain.
’Annabelle, my sister.’
’What am I supposed to do?’
’If I save you, you’ll have to leave this place, leave Leon Grant. But if I don’t, you’ll die. What in the world am I supposed to do?’
...
By the time Annabelle composed herself and went home, Leon Grant was already there.
He shot her a dark look and asked coldly, "Didn’t you say you’d be back early? It’s pitch black out. Why are you just now getting home?"
As he spoke, he couldn’t help but cough a few times.
Annabelle walked up to him with a cheerful grin. "I was just catching up with an acquaintance."
"Oh? An acquaintance? COUGH, COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..."
Leon Grant immediately thought of Quentin Holland.
He seethed at the thought of her getting cozy and talking about romantic nonsense with some other smooth-talker.
Seeing his still-pale face and listening to his constant coughing, Annabelle’s heart ached for him.
’My husband... he’s so handsome, so brilliant. How could he die so young?’
As she thought this, Annabelle put down her purse, gave him a quick kiss, and said, "They’re just classmates. The plan was for everyone to stay the night, but I missed you so much that I came back first."
’I’m so pathetic,’ Leon Grant thought. ’One kiss from her and all my anger just melts away.’
Annabelle asked with a smile, "Are you feeling any better today?"
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..." Leon Grant couldn’t stop himself from another coughing fit.
’He couldn’t believe a stupid cold could be this severe. It was unbelievable.’
Watching him cough, Annabelle felt her eyes begin to sting with tears.
Then, acting nonchalant, she poured him a glass of water and had him take the medicine Vivian Yates had given her.
After taking the medicine, Leon Grant was still coughing, but not as severely.
Annabelle looked at him and asked with a smile, "Have you eaten?"
Leon Grant shook his head.
He didn’t have much of an appetite today.
Annabelle gave him a resigned look, then went to make him some food.
Watching her bustling about, his heart ached. He said, "Annabelle, I’m not hungry. You should go get some rest."
