Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 716: Poisoned
Chapter 716: Chapter 716: Poisoned
After seeing the doctor, Leona Grant had a full-body check-up.
Annabelle Linton and the doctor each reviewed a copy of the results. The final conclusion was that it was a common cold, just a particularly severe case that required plenty of rest.
In the end, the two of them bought some medicine and went home.
Leona Grant was coughing constantly, each fit more violent than the last. At times, it sounded as if she were trying to cough up her own lungs.
That evening, Leona Grant was working in her study, her incessant coughing echoing from within.
Annabelle Linton’s eyes shifted. She went into her room, locked the door, and took out Leona Grant’s lab report.
During the check-up today, she had noticed something on the report.
The specialist probably hadn’t seen it, but she had.
A foreign type of cell had appeared in Leona Grant’s body.
These cells were milky-white and extremely difficult to detect.
Annabelle Linton looked at the report, recalling what Leona Grant had said—if they were both poisoned, only one of them could live.
A sharp, clear pang of pain shot through her.
’I hope it doesn’t come to that.’
—
The next day, Leona Grant went to work, so Annabelle Linton made an excuse about needing to attend a mandatory lecture in Serenvale.
In reality, she was going to Mr. Holland’s research facility.
Leona Grant was very unhappy about it, but Annabelle Linton insisted on going, promising she would be back that night. Only then did Leona Grant agree.
Annabelle Linton boarded the plane with a heavy heart, praying that everything would be okay.
After getting off the plane, she gave Mr. Holland the report and the blood sample she had drawn from Leona Grant, then waited outside.
After hearing everything, a flicker passed through Quentin Holland’s eyes. He said, "Annabelle, you have the same blood type as Leona Grant. Come in and get tested, too."
"Okay."
Half an hour later, Quentin Holland’s expression was incredibly grave.
Annabelle Linton already had a good idea of what was happening. "Mr. Holland," she asked, "are Leona Grant and I both poisoned?"
Quentin Holland was shocked at first, but then understanding dawned on him.
Annabelle Linton’s medical skills were excellent; she had probably noticed the signs while he was running the tests.
After a long silence, Annabelle Linton looked at Quentin Holland and said, "Mr. Holland, please tell me everything without holding anything back. I need to see if there’s any way to fix this."
Quentin Holland looked at her and said in a heavy voice, "You and Leona Grant have been infected with the same blood-borne virus. It was specifically engineered to target your unique blood type... It..."
Annabelle Linton pressed her lips together and asked, her voice devoid of emotion, "Is there no cure?"
That was essentially the case.
Annabelle Linton already had a good idea of who had poisoned them.
’Vivian Yates, right?’
She had seen it in the files from Leona Grant’s dream—a future plot involving Vivian Yates.
This was, in fact, one of the reasons Annabelle Linton had let her go.
Vivian Yates was just a pawn, nothing more. The person behind her was the real target.
Killing Vivian Yates would only treat the symptom, not the root cause.
She was afraid that if she killed Vivian Yates, the person pulling the strings might send someone else, and then she would truly be caught off guard.
Annabelle Linton coolly withdrew her gaze and asked, "Mr. Holland, can you tell me the basic details about this virus?"
Quentin Holland looked at her with concern and said, "The virus is called AN721. To create dependency, it has no incubation period; symptoms appear within a week. First, a fever and cold-like symptoms, then hair loss, loosening teeth, bleeding gums, nosebleeds, bleeding from the ears, and bleeding from the eyes. This is because the virus is constantly attacking your reproductive and immune systems, among other things."
