Meng Yunhan was furious, but she dared not go after Old Madam Han. She could only turn her rage toward Han Yichen. She reached out to pinch him and scolded, "Look at your mother; is she even going to let me raise my head in front of my own children ever again? Look at the way she is speaking to me. They are my children as well, so why does it matter if they take care of me?"

All of them were getting more and more out of control. Their wings had hardened simply too much.

Han Yichen let her scold him. He simply turned around so that his back was facing Meng Yunhan; he then said to her, "You only know that they are your kids when you want them to clean up your mess, but when they are suffering, you are the fastest to hide." Han Yichen no longer had much toward Meng Yunhan. This woman was not only selfish but also greedy and cruel. She did not even have the slightest bit of mercy when it came to her own husband.

He didn’t even need to use his toe to imagine what Meng Yunhan was thinking. She must be hoping for Han Ruochen to pay back all of her debts without paying anything in return. He could not control this woman, so he could only leave this woman in the hands of his mother. Meng Yunhan was not terrified of his anger, but she was quite scared of his mother.

"You—"

When Han Ziyan saw that the matter was escalating, she immediately turned around on her feet and walked out of the ward. She was worried that if she stayed any longer, then she would be dragged into another quarrel. After losing Han Yichen’s favour, Han Ziyan understood that she could no longer rely on her mother. That woman had grand words to say, but she couldn’t do anything on the surface. She could not even arrange enough money for her dowry. This alone showed that Meng Yunhan was simply useless!

Since she could not rely on her mother, why would she even try to rescue her from her adoptive father’s wrath? It would be better if her mother learnt her lesson and tried to put an even stronger restraint on Han Yichen.

Old Madam Han noticed Han Ziyan following her, but she did not say anything. Since the woman wanted to follow, she was allowed to come along with them, but if she dared to make a fuss, then she should be prepared to bear the brunt of her anger. The Han family returned to the small fishing village, and while the women busied themselves in the kitchen, Han Yong took Han Beijiang and Han Jianyou to the supermarket and bought some fireworks to play with in the evening.

The streets were filled with the dragon boat festival’s atmosphere.

Although they had no money in their hands, the Han family did not want to spend the festival in silence.

With Han Yong and the boys gone, Old Madam Han started to instruct everyone to cook. Though Han Yong used to work in the state-run restaurant, everyone had to admit that Han Yong’s skills were all inherited from Old Madam Han. Thus, her skills were considered even mightier than Han Yong’s.

"Here, chop the meat." Old Madam Han handed the cleaver to Han Ziyan while motioning for her to start chopping the meat that was kept in the bowl.

"What?" Han Ziyan was watching a television show when Old Madam Han suddenly blocked her sight and handed her the cleaver. She looked at the old woman as if Old Madam Han had suddenly sprouted ten heads and they were all looking at her. In her family, she had never worked; whenever there was a festival, she would always leave these dirty tasks in the hands of Han Ruochen and the rest, while she was in charge of eating alone. When had anyone asked her to do even the smallest task? Thus, she was looking at Old Madam Han as if she were looking at an alien.

In a way, no one could blame Han Ziyan, but at the same time no one else could be blamed.

"What are you looking at me for?" Old Madam Han’s eyebrows twitched. She had a feeling that there was something amiss about Han Ziyan’s attitude, but still she tried to ignore that subtle feeling. She hoped that she was thinking too much. There was no way that everyone was working at the Han family’s house when there was a festival and Han Ziyan was sitting and waiting for dinner.

Han Ziyan immediately closed her mouth. She was worried that if she dared to say anything, this old hag was going to kill her for sure. She could only force a smile and say, "It’s nothing. I was just asking if the knife is sharp enough?"

Old Madam Han arched a brow when she heard the question. She curled her lips on one side before adding in a subtle voice, "Don’t worry, the knife is sharp enough to cut your throat. Do you want to try?" As she spoke, she pushed the knife forward, causing Han Ziyan to jump up from the couch.

She backed away from Old Madam Han as if she were looking at a mad woman. Han Ziyan did not even dare to blink her eyes as she was worried that the woman would pounce on her the next second.

"G–grandma, what are you doing? There is no need to jump to a decision." Han Ziyan was scared out of her wits. In her mind, she could not help but wonder if the entire Han family was filled with crazy psychopaths. First there was Han Ruochen; that woman ruined her reputation in the village just because her fiancé favoured her over Han Ruochen. And now there was Old Madam Han. Who in their right mind would approach someone with a knife in their hands? Apparently, such a crazy person was closer than she expected.

She eyed the cleaver in the hands of Old Madam Han warily. In her heart, she was determined to fight to death with Old Madam Han if the woman tried to harm her!
