"Is that so?"
"Give it some time, you’ll see." Mr. Huang smiled, then glanced at Huo Cong and Ah Lin, and said to Jiang Xue, "Jiang Xue, we booked a private room. Why don’t you come sit with us?"
"You and Mr. Liu are probably going to talk business, right? I’d better not intrude. It’s nice here too, lively." Jiang Xue turned him down with a smile.
Ever since what happened last time, Jiang Xue hadn’t felt much warmth toward these overseas Chinese. What happened that day made her realize that when it really counts, these people might not be dependable.
Since they couldn’t be counted on, there was no need for her to get too close to them. Keeping things as they were was fine: acquainted, but not close.
Seeing that Jiang Xue wasn’t willing, Mr. Huang didn’t push it. He said goodbye to her with a smile, then went upstairs to the private room.
Noticing that Jiang Xue hadn’t gone with Mr. Huang and the others to the private room, Ah Lin asked her with a grin, "Miss Jiang, those two are well-known Chinese businessmen here. How come you’re not going over to cozy up to them a bit?"
"I’m not good at that kind of thing," Jiang Xue said flatly. If she were going to stay here long-term, then working her connections would be a must. But as things stood, she would likely be leaving soon, so there was no need.
Seeing that Jiang Xue didn’t want to talk more about it, Ah Lin simply changed the subject and started chatting about other things. After waiting a while longer, their dishes were finally served.
The three of them were already a bit hungry, so as soon as the dishes came they dug in. After eating, just as they were getting ready to leave, Ah Li came out.
She had known for a while that Jiang Xue was here, but she’d been busy in the kitchen and hadn’t had a chance to come out and say hello. Now that there were fewer customers, she came out to talk to Jiang Xue.
"Jiang Xue, what’s the rush? Sit for a bit, let’s chat," Ah Li said at once, trying to keep them when she saw they were about to leave.
Jiang Xue gave Ah Li a look, knowing she had something to say to her, then turned to Ah Lin and said, "Ah Lin, why don’t you head back first? Huo Cong and I will go back to the hotel later on our own."
Ah Lin had no idea how long Jiang Xue and Ah Li were going to talk, so after thinking it over he agreed. As he was leaving, he said to Ah Li, "Ah Li, if you can, you really should see them back to the hotel."
"Okay, I got it. Be careful on the road." Ah Li walked Ah Lin to the door, watched him drive off, then turned back into the restaurant.
As time passed, it grew late, and the customers slowly thinned out. In the end, aside from Mr. Huang’s private room, only Jiang Xue and the others were still sitting out in the main dining area.
Seeing that nearly everyone had left, Ah Li told Huo Cong to wait in the restaurant, then took Jiang Xue by the hand and led her to a room at the back of the place.
It was the first time Jiang Xue had been in Ah Li’s room, and she couldn’t help looking around. The room wasn’t big, but it was very neat.
Watching Jiang Xue size up her room, Ah Li asked with a smile, "Well? Doesn’t really look like a girl’s dorm, does it?"
"A bit androgynous. But it looks very clean and orderly. You must be a diligent person," Jiang Xue said with a smile.
Hearing that, Ah Li actually looked a little embarrassed. "I’m actually pretty lazy. I don’t tidy up much. But I do straighten things up once a week."
"That’s already quite good. My room is way messier than yours."
After a few pleasantries, Ah Li pulled Jiang Xue down to sit, then said to her, "Jiang Xue, everything you asked me to do is done, and what you wanted is all ready. When are you going to use it?"
