William came down from the sky and landed some distance away from Kalsh.

He glanced at the burns on Kalsh’s body and chuckled.

"It seems it wasn’t easy for you to escape from those Fire Spirits."

Kalsh smiled bitterly.

"If there were only tens or even hundreds of spirits, I might have been able to escape unscathed, considering their speed wasn’t very high. But there were thousands of them, and they came from every direction..." He shook his head and sighed.

"I first ran toward the location we had agreed to meet at. But those Fire Spirits continued to chase me, so I had no choice but to run somewhere else."

"So that’s how it is..." A look of understanding flashed across William’s face. "When I didn’t see you there, I thought you had run away after getting the item."

Kalsh’s expression changed slightly, and he immediately shook his head.

"How could that be?" He said sincerely. "Although the Fire Mandawa is precious, it’s of no use to me. I only need its roots, and the rest of it is useless to me. Why would I risk running away when there is nothing to gain from it?"

"Is that so..." William didn’t comment on his words and changed the subject.

"By the way, your information about the Superior Fire Spirit was really lacking. You didn’t tell me it could fly or that it had such strong defenses. Nor did you mention that it could control those terrifying white flames."

Kalsh scratched the back of his head and spoke awkwardly.

"It was indeed my mistake. I had read some information about the Superior Fire Spirit in the White Tower’s records, but there was no mention of it being able to fly or use the white flames you spoke of. I apologize for putting you in danger because of my mistake."

William stared at Kalsh for a few seconds before speaking.

"It’s the first time you have heard that the Superior Fire Spirit can use those unusual white flames, yet you don’t look even the slightest bit curious about them."

"That..." Kalsh was stunned by William’s question and quickly responded, "It’s... It’s because I am more concerned about my brother. Now that I have the Fire Mandawa, I just want to return to Varhan City and heal him."

William didn’t say anything after hearing Kalsh’s explanation and simply stared at him in silence.

Seeing this, Kalsh held the Fire Mandawa tightly in his hand and asked cautiously, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Sigh!

William sighed and shook his head.

"You must be wondering inwardly how I managed to catch up with you when you ran in the completely different direction from the place we agreed to meet."

Kalsh’s expression sank slightly upon hearing William’s words, and he was about to defend himself when the ground beside William rippled, and a black creature emerged from beneath it.

Kalsh’s pupils contracted to the size of needles when he saw Number One and took a step back.

"A Crawler..." He muttered in a voice filled with disbelief. "How can there be a Crawler when it’s daytime?"

But what shocked him even more was that, as Number One’s entire body emerged from the ground, he saw a little girl sitting on its back.

Moreover, the Crawler actually sat beside William obediently, looking like a tamed beast.

"This... What’s going on here?"

William patted Eve’s head as she sat on Number One’s back and spoke calmly.

"Meet Number One. He is my pet, and he is the one who told me your location."

"Pet..." Kalsh completely ignored the other things William had said and gritted his teeth.

"I was right. You really are from the Black Tower."

William raised an eyebrow upon hearing this and wondered whether the Black Tower could also turn Crawlers into slaves.

Although he was curious, he had no intention of asking about it now.

"You said you were chased by the Fire Spirits and couldn’t reach the place we agreed to meet. But according to Number One, the Fire Spirits stopped chasing you the moment you left the volcanic area and didn’t dare leave the area with high temperatures..." William paused and smiled slightly.

"If what my little pet says is true, doesn’t that mean you simply didn’t bother going to the place we agreed to meet and just wanted to run away with the Fire Mandawa?"

"I..." Kalsh’s face turned ugly at William’s words, and he looked back and forth between William and Number One.

"I was afraid of being chased by those Fire Spirits, so I didn’t pay attention to where I was going and ran in a different direction."

"Oh, really?" William couldn’t help but chuckle and shook his head. "I forgot to tell you, but I have the ability to perceive malice directed toward me. In fact, you were fully aware that there was a human behind that rock when you first attacked me while fleeing from the Fire Spirits. You simply wanted to find a scapegoat so you could escape from them." William paused, and his smile widened slightly.

"But your plan failed because you didn’t expect me to be so powerful. Not only did I easily evade your attack, but I also seriously injured you. Ever since I injured you, I have been able to sense the overwhelming malice you harbor toward me."

Kalsh opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. He stared at William for a few seconds before his face darkened, and he asked in a low voice.

"How did you discover that my first attack was intentional? Even if you have the ability to perceive malice directed toward you, I don’t think I showed any hostility toward you at the time. I just wanted to escape and needed someone to distract the Fire Spirit."

"Your soul power is very strong," William responded calmly.

"With your powerful soul, it’s impossible for you not to notice the difference between a Fire Spirit and a human. Yet even after realizing there was a human behind the rock, you attacked to expose him to the Fire Spirits." William’s eyes turned cold at this point.

"I have seen plenty of losers like you during the war who don’t hesitate to use other people as meat shields just to escape danger and save their own asses."

Kalsh sneered when he heard William.

"Don’t speak as if you are any better. You were planning to use me from the beginning as well, weren’t you?" He asked with a look of disdain. "People here don’t hesitate to kill someone over a piece of meat, and you are telling me you would’ve shared the roots of such a precious plant with me? Just as I wanted to use you, you also wanted to use me and kill me later to enjoy the benefits alone."

William looked at Kalsh’s mocking face and shook his head.

"I wasn’t planning to... Actually, never mind. I don’t need to explain anything to you."

He looked at the Fire Mandawa in Kalsh’s hand and spoke indifferently.

"Hand it over."
