Chapter 1505: I’ll Do My Best with This Matter

  • Next Chapter

Alexander Shaw said he was with Benjamin Shaw, and initially, Isla Lane thought he was bluffing her, but after calming down and thinking it over, she believed his words.

"What did Benji tell you? Did he mention anything about getting Alice back? Alice is now with..."

"Isla! Let’s give the kids some space. Benji is already a thirty-five-year-old adult. Let him handle his own affairs, and we can just support him quietly from behind."

Alexander intercepted Isla’s words halfway through, denying her the opportunity to finish what she was saying. He spoke neither hurriedly nor angrily, but with calmness, seriousness, and sincerity.

However, Isla did not agree with Alexander’s view, and she refuted him over the phone: "He may be thirty-five already, but he has no sense of propriety at all. If he had listened to us five years ago, would things have turned out this way today?"

In her mind, she felt she hadn’t managed things well five years ago, which led to how bad things became.

She couldn’t just let things happen as she did five years ago. She had to always be ready to take the lead, to win back her former daughter-in-law.

"What happened five years ago is in the past; now is now, let’s not meddle anymore." Alexander’s tone grew heavier than before, and his attitude became more impatient.

Yet Isla was unfazed, holding firm to her opinion and thoughts, "Do whatever you like. I won’t stand by idly; I certainly don’t want Alice to be taken away by Thomas."

Five years ago, she failed to keep watch, but she swore to herself she would not repeat that mistake.

"If someone belongs to our family, nobody can take them away. If they don’t, even if you force them to stay, they won’t." Hearing Isla mention Thomas Fisher brought Alexander’s mind straight back to five years ago.

Five years ago, she had mentioned that Thomas Fisher liked Alice Turner, but back then, he simply couldn’t believe Thomas would have feelings for her.

Thomas and Benjamin were best friends. How could best friends like each other’s wives? Alexander staunchly refused to believe what Isla said.

Back then, he even reprimanded her for making wild assumptions, advising her never to speak like that carelessly lest it create discord between the two good friends.

It wasn’t until a series of events later that Alexander realized Isla wasn’t making random guesses. All along, he had been slow to see the truth.

Even though he learned about Thomas’s feelings for Alice and realized Thomas had successfully proposed, he clung to his beliefs.

He felt that striving was necessary, but it shouldn’t involve a mindset of stealing, for they were fighting for a living, thinking human being, not objects or things.

In stark contrast, Isla had separate views, believing that if you liked someone, you should fight for them, "What do you mean by someone belonging to our family can’t be taken, and if they don’t, they can’t be forced? I’m not listening to you this time; I must win Alice back for our son."

After finishing her words, she abruptly hung up the phone, regardless if he had more to say or whether he would be upset.

Benjamin Shaw sat nearby as Alexander took the call without bothering to hide. He heard the entire conversation between Alexander and Isla.

"Dad! No need to worry. I’ll do my best with the matter, and aim for neither you nor Mom to be worried or concerned about me." He wasn’t angry but comforted his father instead with a good temperament.
