Raising the Forgotten Snake Goddess with my Divine Faith System
Chapter 111: Ch 110: Backhand Attack - Part 3
The defence mechanism shot out bombs after bombs at the intruders, and they exploded, causing different lights to appear in the sky.
It almost looked like fireworks, but a lot more bloody in nature.
But for those who were enjoying the festival, this light show in the sky was a delight to watch. They all turned to look up at the beauty and let out a marvellous gasp.
"What is that?"
"It looks like Goddess Apophis’s blessing. Is she giving us a gift?"
People questioned as they looked up, but no one seemed to know the truth behind what was happening. And Aiden would rather keep things this way.
While people marvelled at this beautiful sight, the people who were forced to deal with this were in turmoil.
"Sir, we are being attacked. Our barrier won’t hold long. What should we do?"
God Vital’s army, being led by his chief priest, looked nervous as they tried to maintain their balance.
They were not even here to fight, but to bring their army back. They needed each and every soldier for the upcoming assault that was going to happen in a few days. And the army had been specifically told to wait for orders.
But a few ’smart’ individuals had taken it upon themselves to try and launch an ambush attack.
The reason the priest had not stopped them was because this was not the first time those fools had planned something like this, nor would it be the last.
In fact, this ambush was something that he appreciated as well since it startled the enemy, giving them time to catch them off-guard.
It was so successful that even their god turned a blind eye to this injustice...
’Not that our god is a god of justice. But still...what do we do now?’
This was the first time that their squad had been caught in an ambush, and they were struggling to get out.
"Sir, this way—"
Finally, one of the people held the front while a few managed to escape from the back. But this caused them heavy casualties.
Those who were bombed lost even their bodies. There was nothing left to recover after that bomb was done.
But weirdly enough, it only destroyed the body and nothing else. The clothes and even other artifacts that did not have God Vital’s power were left behind.
"Just what kind of weapon is that? Is it targeting only those who have God Vital’s powers? Is that even possible?"
The priest had never heard of or seen anything like this before, so he was not sure. But what he did know was that he was not happy about this.
But what he did realize was that being in the sky was not safe. They needed to get down as soon as possible.
He tried to get away, only to see a man standing in their way.
It was a slender man with green hair and a delicate body. A single gust of wind should be able to knock this man back.
However...
Something about this man sent shivers down the priest’s spine. His instincts told him that this person was not to be underestimated at all costs.
"Hello, may I ask where you are headed toward?"
The person asked in a gentle voice, but God Vital’s priest was no fool. He kept his eyes on this new person while signalling his people to try and break through.
"We are just merchants looking for our way back. Can you please step aside and let us go?"
The priest asked, feeling the pressure rising around him.
Aiden let out a sigh as he shook his head and looked at God Vital’s priest.
"There are far too many rude merchants coming here today. I know that it’s a festival and all, but can’t they behave themselves? Rude priests ought to be taken care of, don’t you agree?"
Aiden asked the priest standing in front of him, who nodded suspiciously.
"Maybe...it depends on their crime. I am sure some things can be overlooked—"
"Perhaps, they can be. But I don’t think your group is one that I can overlook. I am afraid that this will become your grave, God Vital’s priest."
Aiden smiled, and the priest finally realized who he was.
"Y-You...you are Goddess Apophis’s—"
He did not get to finish his sentence before the defence mechanism went off. But it did not hurt Aiden at all.
Since the system had provided the defence, it had been curated in a way that it would never hurt anyone who worshipped his goddess. The only people who would get hurt by this were those who had bad intentions.
Aiden let out a sigh as he walked toward the once-alive group.
Now there was not even a hint of their bodies remaining.
"What a waste of time and effort on my part. Let’s hope the next time I have to face such people, the outcome will be better."
He complained before turning around and heading back inside the barrier.
Now that the front forces had been eliminated, it was time to take out the god as well. But that was likely not going to be this easy.
Sigh
"These troubles never seem to end, do they? You deal with the god’s disciples, only to get stuck with him next? I guess I have no choice but to handle things on my own."
The beautiful fireworks that the bombs had caused made people still marvel at their beauty when Aiden went back inside, and he made note of this.
’Next time, I will keep some fireworks ready for display. I am sure it will make the festival even more lively.’
But before that, he needed to get rid of the debt. The sooner he was able to do this, the better.
He did wonder what would happen if he never repaid the debt, but he had a feeling that it was better not to ask this.
After all, the system was his benefactor, and Aiden did not want to lose its support.
