Jennie’s POV

When Noah leaves with his mate and the other guy, the fake smile drops off my face and I return to the counter.

I sit in the stiff chair with a lost look on my face.

He’s mated. He’s no longer free like I am. He’s happily mated to Mr. Alexander’s son.

For the rest of the day, I sit there with my eyes on the computer screen. I do my job with little to no enthusiasm while feeling the sadness spread inside my chest.

He’s so lucky.

Ever since I met the man named Alexander Deus, I’ve always admired him and wished to be part of his family. Whenever he visited the store, it was either to get something for his husband or replace his grown up sons’ underwear.

He’s so nice to the point of paying more money than he has been charged. He’d deliberately leave enough money to buy whatever I wanted for myself. He’s a walking male omega angel.

Seeing Noah with Alexander made me jealous that first time. I got over the jealousy immediately, but seeing that Noah is now mated to Alexander’s middle son hurts.

Seeing that bite on his neck reminds me of everything I lack in my life; love. The love of a lover who wants me bad enough to do anything for me.

I sigh and round up my job for the day.

I guess I’ll just go home to empty apartment, as always. I’ll curl up on my couch and watch a movie that I wouldn’t bother trying to understand.

"Jennie? Close up for the day" my boss calls from across the store and I nod.

When I’m done closing up, I plug my wired headphones in and start a long walk to my apartment. I could have easily taken the bus, but I prefer walking to shed off the negative energy.

I hope Noah didn’t notice my change in mood.

"Damn it" I mutter under my breath.

Apart from not being able to shut my razor-sharp mouth, I also suck at hiding my feelings. I didn’t mean to go cold on him, but I couldn’t help it. I hope he isn’t upset though.

I accidentally bump into someone and when I lift my head to apologize, I see the hot DILF from last time. It’s the older man with a scar on his face, the one who came looking for Alexander at the store the other day.

"Watch your steps little girl" he growls at me with anger dominant in his tone and I move out of the way immediately.

Fuck.

That was terrifying.

Without saying anything else, he breezes past me and two aggressive looking men in black follow behind him.

"Well...fuck you too. I’m a grown ass adult" I mutter to myself before continuing my sad stroll home. He looks hot angry, but I can’t fantasize about what’s under his clothes right now. I’m currently sad.

Damn it, I should have taken Noah’s phone number. I guess I’ll do it next time. That way, I would be able to get closer to him. I’m loud and fun, but I have no real friends.

By the time I get home, the sadness is overwhelming, but before I can fall into my couch or give in to the loneliness, my phone starts to buzz.

It’s my dad.

We have this little tradition where he calls me whenever I get home from work. I don’t know how his calls are always on time, but he has never called at the wrong time.

"Hi, dad" I say softly.

"Hi, baby girl. How are you?" his deep voice asks.

"I’m awesome" I lie but stop myself from saying more lies. "I’m actually having a shit day, but it’s no one’s fault" I murmur, playing with the end of my hair as dad hums.

"What went wrong?" he asks in that gentle fatherly voice, and I sit on the couch.

"Well, a friend of mine got marked and I saw it today. It just looked so nice and I...I wished something like that would happen to me too" I say.

"It will, honey. Good things are bound to happen to you" Dad says.

"I’m a beta woman, Dad. Most people walk away when they realize I’m...ordinary" I tell him truthfully. He used to be a therapist, so I trust him and I try not to hide anything from him.

"Beta or not, dear. You’re special. There is no such thing as ordinary when it comes to you" he says and I smile at my coffee table.

I knew it. Dad will always give me the best advice. He’s the best father a girl like me can ever ask for.

"Enough about me, Dad. How are you?" I ask as I fold my legs on the couch.

"I’m great. Dear. Work has been overwhelming" he says and I utter a soft ’oh’. "Why not take a break, you’re getting old" I say and he laughs.

"I don’t need breaks. But if I take one, do you promise to quit your job?"

"Here we go again" I groan.

"It’s worth the try" he laughs and I laugh along with him, rolling my eyes fondly.

"I love my job, Dad. I like helping people dress fancy and I like listening to hot gossips in the changing room."

"For the goddess’s sake, Jennifer" Dad laughs again and the hearty noise fills my heart, taking away all the negative energy.

"Do you feel better now?" he asks and I nod even though he can’t see me. "What’s your new project for work like?" I ask.

"I’m trying to establish a new transportation system. Some thugs ruined the last one in Winslow" he says with a tsk.

"That’s horrible, I saw the whole Winslow thing on the news. So, what are you going to do now? I thought you had a few friends in the government."

"Yes, that’s what we’re working on. I’m setting up a new system and all that. It’s nerve-racking" he says and I shake my head.

"You’ll do great dad...you’re the cool Julian Fletcher after all" I say softly and he hums.

"Of course, of course, kitten. I am the cool Julian Fletcher after all" he repeats and I grin at my reflection in the TV screen.

My father is the best.

"I gotta go shower and eat. Have great night dad, love you" I say with a yawn.

"Love you too, pup" he says softly and hangs up.

I love being Julian Fletcher’s daughter so much.
