Elias’s POV

In the car driving us back to my family’s home, Noah keeps touching his bite.

The omega seems fascinated by it. My alpha has been paying rapt attention to Noah’s omega’s feelings through our mating bond. The more he touches my mark, the more he softens.

I hate to admit it, but I am smitten by this omega.

He briefly stops touching the wound to hug his new hoodie. The pink clothes have been his second source of happiness. The shopping bag in my lap shakes when we climb over a speed bump and Noah eyes my package of sex toys.

I can see the wheels spinning in his head. The omega’s lips are pursed and I know he’s curious. He sneaks a glance at me, and I know he wants to ask about the things in the bag.

He wants to ask, but he won’t.

Noah won’t ask because he’s shy and proud.

And even if he does ask, I won’t tell. Why would tell him what they’re for when I can make him feel them?

I bought three different brands of plugs. The three plugs are also three different types. Two are made to vibrate via remote control and one is made to keep him stuffed with cum.

He wants to play with toys? Fine. I will make him play with them and make him regret every decision he has ever made to test my patience.

"Woah. What the fuck? That’s insane" Lucas gaps from the passenger seat and I look out the window just in time to see two cars driving down the road with inhumane speed.

The black cars disappear in a cloud of dust as other cars move out of the way.

"What the hell is that?" Noah sits up as he asks the question.

"Beats me" Lucas mutters, still looking outside the window.

A third red car follows the first two and I frown. Something is wrong. Those men are driving like they’re running from something or someone.

"Call home" I order Lucas. I pull out my phone to call mom while he calls Aria. I need to know what is going on.

"Is everything okay?" Noah whispers with worry in his tone and I hold a hand up to silence him.

The dial tone beeps twice and my mom accepts the call almost immediately.

"Mom? Is everything okay?" I ask, straining my ears to pay attention to the background noises. I hear nothing but the chirping noises of small birds. He’s in his garden with the birds.

’Safe’ my alpha supplies and I let out a shaky breath.

"What’s wrong, Eli?" Mom asks and I crane my neck to see the reckless drivers. They’re gone. The only sign of their presence is the cloud of dust and the chaotic condition of the highway.

I would have ordered the car to follow, but Noah is here. I can’t risk putting him in trouble. He doesn’t belong on the field.

"There were some reckless drivers causing a ruckus on the road" I say and I hear him moving out of the garden space.

"I will send Silas to check it. The city’s police might have been called concerning it, I’ll have Aria hack into their system and let me know" he says and I nod. "Whatever you do, don’t go after them yourself, okay?" Mom orders and I nod again.

"I’ll ask Damien and Kai not to get involved too" I tell him and hang up.

I call my brothers and pass the message to them, but according to them, their side of the road is calm. It makes me wonder...did those people go through a shortcut?

"Fuck...fuck" I curse, annoyed at myself for missing this.

"Hey..." Noah says softly, putting his hand on my shoulder, and I look at him. His eyes are expressing just how confused he is.

"It could be regular reckless drivers. I mean, rowdy teens can go crazy at times" the omega says and I shake my head.

"No, they’re clearly skilled drivers and they’re running from something. Gottingen is a safe place and there is never anything to run from" I say to him.

"Yeah, but anything is possible" he mutters.

The driver takes us home and I am greeted by Aria by the door. Her arms are folded and her facial expression is grim.

"What’s wrong?"

"Emergency" she says.

Her eyes find Noah who is standing behind me and they turn dark. Seeing the obvious threat, I instinctively pull my mate into my side. She tilts her head in disrespect.

"Aria" I growl at the back of my throat to warn her off.

"There’s a meeting waiting to happen, in five minutes time, everyone is meant to be settled in" she informs me and walks away with her arms folded.

"She still hates me" Noah mutters.

"She sees you as a mockery from Winslow" I say to him from over my shoulder. My words land on the floor and I feel the drop in his feeling through our bond.

Fuck.

Too blunt.

"She will get over it. Go to the room" I say and gesture for him to go up the stairs first. "I don’t want to go to the room without you" he says and I sigh.

"We’re going to be having a meeting, and you might not like the things we say in it" I tell him and he nods.

"I want to be there" he says. I search his eyes and I see that he’s determined to be a part of it. I don’t think twice about it, instead, I agree to let him join us. My family and its mess are now his after all.

We walk to the meeting room together and when I open the door, I stop to scan the room.

My mother is at the table. Father isn’t here. Silas is missing. The council of men who swore their lives to my father are seated here too. Fifteen men of influence.

I walk in first and my father’s men all acknowledge me with polite nods of greetings. I don’t return their greetings. I don’t give a fuck about being polite or having manners.

I open the door wider for my husband to come in, and the present tension in the room triples.

"What is he...what is he doing here?" one of the council men, a smart businessman who holds down the finance in our drug production site, asks.

"He’s my possession and my husband. He comes if I order it" I drawl, walking further into the room with Noah behind me.

"In our last meeting, we agreed that your marriage to him is null and void. He legally belongs to Julian Fletcher" the man hisses.

With a blank face, I pick a pen out of the pocket of one of the council members. I need one more word from the businessman. Just one word and I will pin his tongue to the table with this ballpoint pen.

All he has to do is offend me.

"Noah is marked by Elias; he is allowed to join the meeting" my mom says with his hands on the table.

His cold blue eyes are monitoring my calculated movements and lack of response. He knows what I’m about to do. He knows an official is about to bleed but he doesn’t know who it will happen.

"Enough arguments, please" Siren says and the man keeps blabbering.

"But he is still the son of Goldsmith...aggh!" he screams as I place one hand on his head and force him down on the table. My eyes stay locked on my mother’s as a sickening sound fills the room from the man’s jaw hitting the table.

Mom briefly shuts his eyes and sighs.

"Eli" he says my name flatly. His eyes are full of quiet warnings, and I take my hand off the businessman’s head.

"Any more words aimed at my husband with ill-intention?" I ask the room and they all avoid my eyes. They look at the table instead of at me and I give a curt nod.

I drop the pen to the table and return to my husband’s side.

I pick a seat and help Noah settle into it. The omega looks traumatized as he sits down. His hands are limp in his laps. His back is straight. And his eyes are on the table.

"Okay, the meeting starts now. Someone call Silas, I need to know what he uncovered" mom says and I place my shopping bag of sex toys on the table before falling into a chair.

"I’m on it" Aria announces, bursting into the room with her twin brother behind her. Kai and Damien follow closely behind and they look enraged.

She connects her phone to the stereo in the room, and I hear the heavy breathing of a man who is barely holding himself together. Silas sounds furious even without speaking.

"What’s going on?" Mom asks, sitting straighter and frowning at the phone screen.

"A fucking school was attacked, Luna. A fucking school" Silas roars with rage.

Who would dare sneak into the city of the Gods and attack a school for pups?

I slowly turn my head to look at Noah and when I do, he’s already looking at me.
