With such a large group arriving together, anyone could tell something was going on.
Hapu did not explain the matter immediately. Instead, she looked towards Olivia.
"Who’s this pretty lady?"
Kaloi smiled and said, "This is my new disciple, Olivia. Her talent is excellent. She has the potential to succeed me as kahuna one day."
Olivia smiled shyly.
"I’m not that amazing yet, but I won’t let Master’s expectations down. I’ll definitely train hard!"
At that moment, a little boy with streaks of red in his hair rushed into the ranch.
"Grandpa, why didn’t you call me if there was a battle?"
Seeing the crowd of people in the ranch, Kiawe blinked.
"So many people."
Kaloi smiled and said, "We have guests, Kiawe. Hurry and ask your mother to bring out some of the ranch’s specialities to treat them."
Kiawe saluted with a serious expression.
"Yes, Grandpa!"
Only after they had eaten some of Kiawe’s family’s homemade dairy products did Hapu explain why they had come.
"You want to find Tapu Lele and have her treat this Pokémon’s illness?"
Kaloi looked at Mewtwo.
With his eyesight, he could see how powerful Mewtwo was.
Kaloi frowned.
"For such a powerful Pokémon to fall ill, treating it will definitely be extremely difficult and complicated."
"Tapu Lele won’t agree to help."
Julian asked respectfully, "Sir, does Tapu Lele have any particular preferences? If we appeal to what she likes, perhaps she’ll be willing to help."
Kaloi shook his head.
"Tapu Lele likes playing tricks on people. Although she is the best at healing, she does not like showing that ability."
"Compared to healing, she prefers tormenting people with her scales. The more you ask her to help, the less likely she is to do it."
Caitlin said calmly, "Then if we don’t ask Tapu Lele to help, will she insist on helping instead?"
Caitlin felt that her personality was fairly similar to Tapu Lele’s.
If she encountered something like this, she might very well do that.
Caitlin’s question directly stumped Kaloi.
"That... you can try. Perhaps it may succeed. But if she sees through it, it will only invite Tapu Lele’s retaliation."
"As kahuna, I cannot appear in that kind of scene. You should be able to find Tapu Lele at the Ruins of Life on the mountain."
Julian took out some pastries he had personally made as a gift for the visit.
After Julian and the others left, Kiawe asked in surprise, "Grandpa, they actually dare to manipulate Tapu Lele? Aren’t they afraid of angering her?"
Kaloi rubbed Kiawe’s head.
"You two must remember. We must respect Tapu Lele, but we must also learn to use wisdom when dealing with her."
"It is precisely because of the wisdom of our predecessors that we have been able to live and thrive on Akala Island."
Looking at the confused Olivia and Kiawe, Kaloi shook his head.
"Forget it. You only need to remember not to offend Tapu Lele."
This kind of plan was too advanced for these two honest children. They did not need to learn it.
Cynthia thought for a moment.
"After meeting Tapu Lele, have Mewtwo propose a battle with her."
"They’ll compete to see whose Psychic power is stronger. Then Mewtwo will reveal his genetic illness, lose to Tapu Lele, and tell her..."
"If he didn’t have this illness, he could never lose to her. If she offers to treat him, Mewtwo should refuse her."
"Say that his illness is something Tapu Lele could never cure. If she still refuses to treat him, Caitlin, you speak."
"Say that it’s such a simple little illness — surely Tapu Lele can’t be unable to cure it? If she still doesn’t react, then mock her."
"Ask if she’s afraid that once Mewtwo recovers, he’ll defeat her."
Caitlin could not help shaking her head.
"Cynthia, you’re so wicked!"
Cynthia glared at Caitlin.
"What wicked? This is called strategy!"
Caitlin hugged Cynthia.
"I like this wicked side of you!"
The group arrived at the Ruins of Life, and Mewtwo released a wave of Psychic power.
Sure enough, Tapu Lele soon flew out from the mountains.
Mewtwo said calmly, "We will soon be leaving the Alola islands. Before we leave, I want to compare myself against you, the strongest Psychic-type Pokémon in Alola."
"To see which of us has stronger Psychic power."
Tapu Lele could not possibly refuse a contest to decide superiority.
She was not Tapu Koko, that fanatical battle lover, but she hated losing!
Not fighting meant losing.
Use this version:
Mewtwo attacked first.
A dark sphere formed above his palm, compressed until the air around it began to distort.
Shadow Ball!
The attack shot forward like a black meteor.
Tapu Lele drifted sideways, her shell opening slightly as she spun through the air. A sweet, dizzying fragrance spread from the pink scales scattered around her body, filling the battlefield in an instant.
Mewtwo’s eyes narrowed.
The moment the scent reached him, his movements grew heavier. It was not simple sleepiness, nor was it poison. It was a soft, clinging interference that dulled his reactions and slowed the flow of power through his body.
Tapu Lele raised one hand.
Pink-white light gathered before her.
Moonblast!
A brilliant sphere of Fairy energy burst towards Mewtwo.
Mewtwo vanished from where he was.
Teleport!
The Moonblast tore through empty air and exploded behind him.
Mewtwo reappeared above Tapu Lele, one hand already lowered.
Another Shadow Ball fell straight down.
Tapu Lele’s expression changed slightly.
Her shell snapped half-closed around her body.
Protect!
The Shadow Ball struck the barrier and burst apart.
Ghost energy rolled outward, forcing Tapu Lele down several metres before she steadied herself again. Her eyes narrowed, and the innocent smile on her face faded a little.
Mewtwo had not flown upwards to escape the fragrance.
He had used that movement to draw out her attack.
Tapu Lele lifted both hands.
Pink-white light flared around her body, then exploded outward in all directions.
Dazzling Gleam!
Mewtwo raised his arm, forming a curved barrier in front of himself.
The Fairy light crashed against it, pushing him backwards through the air.
Before the glow had even faded, Tapu Lele was already moving.
She danced lightly through the sky, scattering more shimmering scales as she circled him. The fragrance thickened, turning the air heavy and sweet.
Mewtwo’s movements slowed again.
Tapu Lele seized the moment.
Thunderbolt!
A bright bolt of electricity shot from her hand, carrying a faint trace of Tapu Koko’s wildness.
Mewtwo twisted sideways, narrowly avoiding the lightning, then flicked his wrist.
A dark sphere curved through the air from an unexpected angle.
Shadow Ball!
Tapu Lele barely reacted in time. Her shell closed around her again, but the explosion still struck the edge of her guard and sent her spinning backwards.
She steadied herself in the air, visibly annoyed now.
Several pink flashes appeared around Mewtwo at once.
Draining Kiss!
Mewtwo immediately retreated, but the glowing marks chased after him like little sparks of Fairy energy.
One touched his shoulder.
His body stiffened for an instant as part of his strength was drawn away.
Tapu Lele’s expression brightened.
But Mewtwo had already raised his hand.
The Shadow Ball he had prepared earlier was waiting behind her.
It shot forward.
Tapu Lele spun around and struck it with another Moonblast.
Ghost and Fairy energy collided in mid-air, bursting into a violent wave of light.
Maylene blinked from the side.
"Aren’t they supposed to be comparing Psychic power? Why haven’t either of them used a Psychic-type move yet?"
For a brief moment, Mewtwo and Tapu Lele both paused.
Tapu Lele’s gaze shifted.
Mewtwo’s expression remained calm, but the silence was strangely telling.
Then both sides changed tactics at the same time.
The playful probing vanished.
Mewtwo slowly raised one hand, and the pressure around him changed completely.
His Psychic power no longer spread outward as a vague force. It compressed, condensed, and took physical form, gathering into a violent invisible impact aimed directly at Tapu Lele’s body.
Psystrike!
The attack blasted forward.
Tapu Lele’s eyes lit up.
Instead of dodging, she raised both hands. Thick pink Psychic power wrapped around her shell, layering itself again and again until it looked almost solid.
Psyshock!
She shot upward, wrapped in condensed Psychic force, and slammed directly into Mewtwo’s attack.
Boom!
The collision sent a ring of pressure sweeping across the sky.
The clouds above the Ruins of Life were torn apart in a perfect circle.
They rushed at each other again.
The second clash was even heavier.
Mewtwo’s Psystrike struck like a hammer aimed at the body, while Tapu Lele’s Psyshock gathered around her shell like armour and a battering ram at once. Blue and pink Psychic power ground against each other, bursting into sparks that rained down like fragments of light.
The third collision shook the entire mountainside.
This time, Mewtwo pushed Tapu Lele back.
Only half a step.
But for Tapu Lele, that was enough.
Her expression sharpened.
Mewtwo prepared to press the advantage.
Then, according to the plan, his body suddenly stiffened.
His hand moved to his chest, and a flicker of pain crossed his face.
Tapu Lele noticed it instantly.
She did not hesitate.
Pink Psychic power descended like a giant invisible hand, pressing Mewtwo down from the sky.
Mewtwo resisted for a moment, then allowed himself to be forced towards the ground.
The earth cracked beneath him as he landed on one knee.
Tapu Lele hovered above him, looking down with clear satisfaction.
She had won.
Julian stepped forward.
"Sorry. Tapu Lele, this battle is your win. Mewtwo’s genetic illness has flared up, so he can’t continue fighting."
Mewtwo clutched his chest and flew up.
"If not for this illness, I could never have lost to you."
Tapu Lele fell for it as expected and flew proudly to Mewtwo’s side.
"Lele!"
Since Mewtwo was ill, she would cure him and then battle him again!
Tapu Lele released Psychic power and checked Mewtwo’s physical condition.
Everyone looked at Tapu Lele expectantly.
She frowned and waved her hand.
Mewtwo’s problem was too troublesome. She could not cure it.
Tapu Lele felt that his body was so frail, and he had developed such a serious illness. That alone already meant he had lost to her.
Cynthia elbowed Caitlin, signalling that it was her turn.
Caitlin immediately spoke.
"Tapu Lele, there’s actually an illness in this world you can’t cure?"
Tapu Lele snorted coldly.
What did she mean, she could not cure it?
She could. She just did not want to!
Caitlin continued, "Then you’re just afraid that once Mewtwo’s illness is healed, he really will defeat you!"
Cynthia smiled and said, "Mewtwo can’t cure his own illness. If Tapu Lele cures Mewtwo, wouldn’t that mean she is even stronger than him?"
Tapu Lele narrowed her eyes slightly.
She had fallen for Cynthia’s plan.
She waved a hand, signalling for Mewtwo to follow.
Caitlin looked at Cynthia.
You actually had another move prepared?
