Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Mewtwo’s Genetic Illness

A/N:1/2 Bonus Chapters

-----------------------

After leaving Poni Canyon, Julian rode Miraidon to Akala Island and reunited with Cynthia and the others.

As everyone knew, Akala Island was a volcanic island.

And an active volcanic island at that!

On Akala Island, the most famous attraction was naturally the volcanic hot springs.

Hapu introduced them enthusiastically.

"It’s said that Akala Island’s volcanic hot springs have effects that heal both body and mind. Of course, that’s just advertising. Not all volcanic hot springs really have that effect."

"But the hot spring we’re going to today is rich in energy, so it does have some effect on treating injuries."

Julian nodded.

"Then let’s hurry over."

Maylene happily waved her fist.

"Yay, hot springs! This is perfect for relieving the fatigue from training over the past two days."

Julian rubbed her head.

"Since you got a Fairium Z, are you planning to catch a Fairy-type Pokémon?"

Maylene shook her head.

"I heard Fairy-type Pokémon become very difficult to raise if they leave an area filled with Fairy energy like this."

"I’ll just stick to using my fists and raising some more ordinary Pokémon."

Julian thought about it and agreed.

"Then wait a little longer. Once you’ve mastered enough knowledge, you can try raising Fairy-type Pokémon."

Under Hapu’s guidance, everyone headed towards the volcanic hot spring.

Julian keenly noticed that when Mewtwo used Psychic power to fly, his expression looked slightly unnatural.

With her grandfather being kahuna, Hapu had acquaintances on all four islands.

If she had not helped reserve seats at this volcanic hot spring, Julian and the others would have needed to book in advance.

The owner was not lacking customers at all.

Of course, the owner’s service attitude was excellent and not arrogant just because business was good.

After entering the hot spring pool, Julian noticed that Mewtwo finally relaxed his brow.

Julian walked over and sat beside Mewtwo, then reached out and held his arm.

"I’ll check you."

He gave Mewtwo no chance to refuse.

Mewtwo stubbornly said, "Julian, my body is fine."

Julian’s Aura spread through his body.

Mewtwo was a Pokémon created from Mew’s genes as the root and fused with the superior genes of many different Pokémon.

Perhaps because the genes fused into his body had not only come from Psychic-type Pokémon, but also from other Pokémon...

Mewtwo’s body had developed problems due to genetic conflict.

Julian had not expected that in Alola, a region so rich in natural energy, Mewtwo’s body would actually show problems earlier than expected.

Could it be because the dense energy nourished Mewtwo’s body but also nourished those flaws, magnifying the problem and causing it to erupt early?

Julian frowned deeply.

"Your problem looks minor only because you’ve been forcibly suppressing it with Psychic power."

"If this continues, the strain on your body will only worsen. Your Psychic power can suppress the conflict for now, but it can’t solve the root of the problem by force."

Julian looked at Mewtwo seriously.

"You were created from Mew’s genes and modified through human experimentation. That gave you terrifying power, but it also left your body unstable."

"If we can provide enough vitality and help your body stabilise, you may be able to use your own Psychic power to guide the repair from within."

"Not only could you recover, you might even go a step further and draw out the potential hidden in your genes."

In other words, Mega Evolution.

Becoming Mewtwo X or Mewtwo Y.

The specific form would depend entirely on Mewtwo’s own choice.

Julian injected his Aura into Mewtwo’s body.

"Use your Psychic energy. I’ll help regulate your body."

Darius rubbed his shoulder.

"Julian, do you really need to work that hard? You’re soaking in a hot spring and still training with Mewtwo?"

Julian did not explain. He focused on pouring Aura into Mewtwo’s body.

Mewtwo also knew that Aura was linked to Julian’s vitality.

He could not allow any of it to be wasted.

He likewise focused on using Psychic power and modifying his body.

He harmonised the conflicting genes.

For the genes Mewtwo believed were useful, he tried to eliminate the conflict. For the genes he felt were useless, he directly removed them.

When Julian’s face had grown somewhat pale, Mewtwo took the initiative and used Psychic energy to cut off the path through which Julian was injecting Aura.

Mewtwo pulled Julian’s hand away and looked into his eyes.

"Julian, you have already done more than enough for me."

Julian took a deep breath.

"My Aura isn’t enough yet. What I did just now only eased the symptoms for a while. If we want to truly fix your body..."

Julian’s voice lowered.

"We’ll need an enormous amount of vitality."

"To repair the instability, your cells will have to be awakened and guided one by one."

He looked at Mewtwo.

"And that process will be painful."

Mewtwo’s tail moved slowly behind him.

"If pain were enough to stop me, I would not be here."

Julian paused, then smiled faintly and patted his shoulder.

"Fair point."

Mewtwo looked towards the steaming spring.

"You used too much Aura. Soak for a while and let the spring restore what you lost."

Julian climbed out of the hot spring pool, took a large bag of Berries from his backpack, and shared them with Darius, Darach, and Mewtwo.

"Compared to the hot spring, this will restore stamina faster."

He ate a handful, quickly absorbing the energy contained in the Berries.

His complexion visibly regained its colour.

Mewtwo took a bite of a Berry.

Julian leaned against the side of the pool.

"Tastes good, right? Next time, I’ll try eating while injecting Aura into you."

Mewtwo shook his head directly.

"That would harm your body. Rather than using this method, we should find an environment containing a large amount of energy."

Mewtwo’s words reminded Julian.

Julian clapped his hands.

"That’s right. How did we forget her?"

Darius and Darach both looked over.

"Who?"

Julian said somewhat excitedly, "Tapu Lele! Tapu Lele is good at healing, and as an island guardian deity, Tapu Lele must know where there is a place that we need!"

Mewtwo frowned slightly.

Among the group, he was basically the one who had interacted with Tapu Lele the most.

He understood Tapu Lele’s personality fairly well and did not think she would be willing to help treat his genetic illness.

After leaving the hot spring, Julian told everyone about Mewtwo’s problem, reducing the severity by ten times.

Caitlin immediately waved her fist.

"Mewtwo is my Psychic teacher. I’ll help persuade Tapu Lele!"

Mewtwo said calmly, "Tapu Lele only treats you as an amusing toy. She already helped Julian last time. It’s impossible for her to help treat my illness because of you."

Cynthia rubbed her chin.

"Where there’s a will, there’s a way. We’ll go meet her first. As long as we communicate, we should be able to find a way to make her help."

This was a doctor.

It was best not to put a knife to the doctor’s neck and force them to treat you.

Hapu raised her hand.

"Why don’t we go ask the kahuna?"

"Kahuna Kaloi and my grandfather are good friends. Maybe he has a way?"

After eating lunch at the hot spring inn, everyone followed Hapu to Paniola Town.

At a ranch, they met the kahuna of Akala Island.

The old man was currently commanding a Charizard in a battle against a young girl commanding a Midday Form Lycanroc.

Julian recognised her at a glance.

This was the future kahuna of Akala Island, Olivia.

After the battle ended, Hapu enthusiastically went forward to greet him.

"Grandpa Kaloi!"

Seeing that it was Hapu, Kaloi immediately smiled.

"Ah, Hapu! What brings you here?"
