-----------------------

Since the whole family needed to go, the work at Veilstone Gym had to be arranged properly.

They had to notify Trainers in advance of the approximate closing period for Veilstone Gym, so Trainers could adjust their challenge schedules in time.

If Dad regained his spirit after seeing Mum and no longer wanted to retire, then Veilstone Gym could even have dual Gym Leaders!

Jirachi had specifically mentioned his sister. That meant Julian had to personally go to Kanto and bring Maylene back.

Julian frowned slightly, worried that Maylene might have encountered some danger.

"I’ll go call Maylene."

Cynthia nodded.

"Since you can meet your mother in Alola, Maylene really does need to know this good news."

In truth, Julian was not sure whether telling Maylene now was a good idea...

Jirachi’s prophecies were not necessarily always accurate.

Hadn’t someone once used Jirachi to try reviving Groudon or Kyogre, only to create an imitation instead?

Although this Jirachi had Cogita, Dialga, and Palkia’s endorsement.

"Cynthia, do you think I should tell Maylene now? The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment."

Cynthia clenched her fist.

"If you don’t try, how do you know you’ll definitely fail? I think Maylene is a strong girl."

"Even if she really doesn’t get to meet your mother, Maylene will pull herself together!"

Julian nodded.

As for Darius, he would not tell him for now.

He would wait until after they met Tapu Fini.

Julian dialled the number, and Maylene quickly picked up.

"Pika... chu!"

The voice that came through the phone was not Maylene’s, but Pikachu’s cry as it released Thunderbolt.

"Brother, what made you think of calling me? How have you been recently? Have you managed to win Cassia over?"

Julian smiled.

"I haven’t even asked how you’re doing yet, and you’re already asking about me!"

"How many Badges have you got?"

Maylene smiled proudly.

"Four already! We’re on the road to the place where I’ll get my fifth Badge."

"We ran into a Trainer with a Pikachu. I don’t know why, but even though they only just met, Paul and Ash are already at each other’s throats."

"They can’t say more than a few words before arguing, and then it turns into a Pokémon battle to decide the winner."

Before Reggie’s setback, Paul still had a somewhat childish side.

But he really did easily quarrel with Ash. They were probably natural opposites, like two sides of the same coin.

"Where are you now? I’ll come to Kanto to find you in the next two days. Your Kanto League challenge journey may need to stop temporarily."

"There’s something important. I’ll tell you after we meet."

Maylene curiously asked, "What is it? You can’t say it over the phone?"

"Let’s wait until we meet."

Some things were better said face to face.

"Alright. I’ll go ask Brock about the landmarks we might pass by next. We can meet there."

Maylene went to ask Brock, and Brock carefully checked the map.

"We’re near Fuchsia City right now. The nearest town should be Old Coast Pier. We’ll probably arrive there in about three days."

Julian nodded.

"Then let’s meet at Old Coast Pier. If you arrive and we haven’t got there yet, wait for us there."

Maylene nodded.

"Okay."

After hanging up, Julian said to Cynthia, "I’ll go back to Veilstone Gym. When we’re ready to set off for Alola, I’ll call you."

Cynthia nodded.

"Alright."

Right now, the range she could move around in was basically limited to home and the training field.

Riding Miraidon, Julian first sent Cynthia home to rest.

After getting off, Cynthia took a breath.

"My house is pretty big, and there are quite a few spare rooms. Just stay in the guest room. No need to look for a hotel."

Julian hesitated for a moment.

"Wouldn’t that be too much trouble?"

Cynthia waved her hand.

"No. But in my current state, you’ll have to tidy up the guest room yourself."

"That’s not a problem."

Just like that, Julian followed Cynthia into her home.

"You can stay here. I’m going to sleep first."

Cynthia rushed into her room and threw herself onto the bed.

Why had her brain suddenly short-circuited and made her bring Julian home?

As Cassia’s good friend, this did not fit her character.

Julian would not think she was a bad woman, would he?

Julian, however, did not think that much about it. He focused on tidying the room, then sat cross-legged on the carpet and began meditating.

Meditation could speed up his recovery.

It was not enough for only his Pokémon to become stronger.

Julian himself had to become stronger too.

Against Tapu Fini, he might even be the final trump card!

...

Early the next morning, Cynthia smelled a fragrance and walked out of her room.

She saw Julian smiling.

"Breakfast is ready. You can eat after washing up."

"Okay."

Cynthia washed her face, then suddenly reacted.

Wait.

This was her house, wasn’t it?

Why was he so naturally making breakfast in someone else’s home?

After washing up, Cynthia also sat down and ate very naturally.

It tasted far better than the breakfasts she or Professor Carolina casually threw together.

If she enjoyed breakfast personally made by Julian every day, Cynthia felt she would quickly gain weight.

After breakfast, Julian set off back to Veilstone Gym.

Seeing Julian return, Darius excitedly asked, "Why are you back so soon? Did something happen between you and your little girlfriend?"

Julian waved his hand.

"It’s nothing. I just received an important piece of news. Our whole family needs to go to Alola together."

"I’ll go to Kanto to bring Maylene back. We need to adjust Veilstone Gym’s Trainer reception schedule."

"This trip to Alola... we don’t know how long it’ll take before we return."

Compared to seeing his mother, whether he could smoothly pass the Gym assessment was no longer important.

"Post a notice on the official website. We’ll officially close in one week. During this period, we won’t limit the number of challengers."

"As for when challenges resume, there’s no fixed date yet. Ask Trainers to keep an eye on Veilstone Gym’s official website for updates."

"Also notify our friends so we don’t delay their Gym challenges."

Seeing Julian so serious, Darius immediately went to make arrangements.

"Alright. I’ll go handle it now."

For the next two days, Julian stayed at Veilstone Gym and accepted challenges from Trainers.

Then he would fly straight to Fuchsia City. He had checked the map.

Driving from Fuchsia City to Old Coast Pier only took half a day.

After hearing that Veilstone Gym would not limit the number of challengers, nearby Trainers all wanted to challenge the Gym within the week.

After all, the Gym had announced that it would close, and the reopening date was uncertain.

They had to hurry!

There were too many challengers, and Julian spent the next two days completely swamped.

Even Eevee and Bagon joined in the challenge matches for the experience.

Their performances were neither especially good nor bad.

But Eevee was clearly not satisfied with his first appearance.

Because he had not won.

Julian was stroking Eevee’s head and comforting him, telling him not to worry over a single loss, when his phone suddenly rang.

It was Cynthia.

"Hello."

"Julian, you’re planning to set off tomorrow to find Maylene, right?"

Julian nodded.

"That’s right."

"Then setting off tonight shouldn’t be a problem, should it?"

Before Julian could answer, he heard an unusual sound from the sky.

He raised his head and saw a huge aircraft slowly descending above Veilstone Gym.

A hatch opened, and a smaller aircraft flew out, landing in front of Julian.

Even this small aircraft was larger than a car.

The window lowered, and Cynthia smiled.

"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and get in."
