After obtaining the research material she had been longing for, Professor Carolina waved her hand.

"Alright, you two won’t understand the work that comes next anyway."

"Don’t just stand here. Go do whatever you should be doing. The moon is quite nice tonight. Going out for a walk would be good too."

The corner of Julian’s mouth twitched.

Professor, this is Cynthia, not Cassia.

Did you forget?

Although both were your granddaughter, the identities were completely different.

The Hisui Pokédex was very important, but their little romance game still had to continue.

Cynthia’s head, however, was not especially clear right now, so she did not realise the problem.

Instead, she thought of something else.

"Julian, do you remember Senior Cogita saying we should look after Jirachi and Victini?"

"Why don’t we use ordinary ingredients to make food and summon them again?"

Julian nodded in agreement.

"Perfect. I’ll try using modern ingredients to recreate the ancient recipes Senior gave me."

The two did not deliberately look for a secluded place to hold the ritual.

They simply found an open space near the History Research Institute and began.

Soon, the aroma of food spread out.

As Julian called out to the nature spirits, a spatial fluctuation appeared. Victini and Jirachi suddenly showed themselves.

This time, the two little ones did not immediately come over to eat.

Instead, they hid in a corner and carefully observed Julian and Cynthia.

They were confirming whether they had been exposed.

After going in and out of the misty forest, Julian was even more certain that the two little ones had obtained a trace of Palkia’s power.

Not only could they use Teleport, they could also use spatial power to hide themselves.

Compared to Julian now, the two little ones’ spatial power was much stronger.

After sensing that the spatial power on Julian had become denser and that there was also a slight trace of Dialga’s time power, Victini and Jirachi exchanged a glance.

Then they stared at Julian even more seriously.

Julian fully released his charm.

"You two, we mean no harm. We’ve already met Miss. Cogita."

"She asked us to look after you."

Julian had not expected that after hearing Cogita’s name, the two little ones would not show surprise.

Instead, their bodies trembled.

As if they had remembered something very terrifying.

Julian suddenly had an idea.

"You two, I imagine you wouldn’t want Cogita to personally come and look after you, would you?"

Victini and Jirachi immediately flew in front of Julian.

"Jira!"

"Tini!"

Victini and Jirachi frantically waved their hands.

Absolutely not!

If possible, they hoped they would never see Cogita again in this life, their next life, or the life after that.

Seeing Victini and Jirachi appear out of fright, Cynthia asked in confusion, "Is Miss. Cogita that scary? She’s clearly very kind."

The two little ones sighed, unwilling to remember the dark past of being held in Cogita’s arms and squished however she liked.

She had called them soft, fragrant little cakes that were born to be eaten by her.

Then she had cuddled them again and again.

That woman was too frightening!

Watching Victini and Jirachi seriously eat, Cynthia’s eyes also shone.

She wanted to hold them and touch them.

Julian stopped her.

"Don’t think about it. They really resist that kind of thing."

Cogita had already collected affection tax a thousand years in advance.

Julian even suspected that Victini and Jirachi had been left with psychological trauma because of it.

Cynthia sighed.

"What a pity."

Besides, Cynthia did not have Cogita’s special ability. Even if she wanted to catch Victini or Jirachi and rub them in her arms, she simply could not do it.

The food Julian made gave the two little ones the taste of home.

As they ate, tears unknowingly fell.

Ever since the ancient people of Celestic had angered Arceus and been destroyed, they had not eaten food this close to the taste of home in many years.

The most painful thing in life was not being thousands of miles from home.

It was standing on the very land that had once been your home.

Yet thousands of years had already passed, and the watchtower, the lotus pond, and those quiet nights were all gone.

The old village would never return.

The two little ones quietly finished all the food Julian had prepared.

Before leaving, Victini tapped Julian three times on the shoulder.

Julian immediately felt the Psychic power, Aura, and Fighting energy inside his body surge intensely.

Victini’s voice sounded in Julian’s heart.

"Although it won’t last forever, during the period when it is strengthened, it should make your power grow quite a bit."

The tag on the star above Jirachi’s head swayed gently.

His voice also sounded in Julian’s heart.

"Bring your sister. Go with your whole family. The person you want to meet will appear."

Julian’s gaze shifted.

"You mean Alola really can do it?"

Jirachi nodded, then linked hands with Victini and vanished with Teleport.

Cynthia narrowed her eyes slightly.

"What person you want to meet?"

Julian spoke, his voice somewhat hoarse.

"You know I lost my mother very early. My father never truly recovered from it."

"I heard that Tapu Fini, one of the guardian deities of Alola, has the ability to make the spirits of the departed appear within mist."

"I’m alright. Maylene is the one who never really got to meet Mum. She even blames herself for Mum’s death."

"I want Dad and Maylene to see Mum again and untie the knot in their hearts."

Cynthia nodded in agreement.

"Untying that knot would have a great effect on Maylene!"

Julian narrowed his eyes and clenched his fist.

"But Tapu Fini may not necessarily be willing to help me. Island guardian deities are not exactly gentle and kind beings."

Ancient people believing Pokémon were dangerous had not merely been a misunderstanding.

Some Pokémon truly were born as symbols of danger and cruelty.

The Pokémon modern people saw were, in truth, the result of generation after generation of domestication and selection.

Cynthia threw a punch.

"Then I’ll go with you! If Tapu Fini isn’t willing, we’ll fight until she agrees to help!"

Julian nodded.

If Tapu Fini refused to listen to reason...

He also knew a little about martial arts.

After receiving such important information from Jirachi, the two of them naturally had no mood to continue their date.

"Let’s release the Pokémon first and see how they’re doing."

"Once they recover, we’ll begin training immediately and try to become even stronger before facing Tapu Fini."

Even if they only became a little stronger, perhaps that little bit would be the key to defeating Tapu Fini.

After checking, they found that the Pokémon’s soul-displacement issue was generally much lighter.

After these few hours outside, the Pokémon had already recovered quite a bit.

After sleeping tonight, they should be fully restored.

But the two humans were much more heavily affected.

Cynthia felt that she might need two or three days before she could return to normal activity.

As for the effect disappearing completely so she could enter the misty forest again, that felt very far away.

Julian, meanwhile, felt that his recovery time should be about the same as the Pokémon’s.

Cynthia’s mouth opened in surprise.

"Are you a monster?"

Julian’s face darkened.

Cynthia hurriedly waved her hands.

"No, I mean, is your physical condition really that good?"
