Chapter 314: Reorganizing the Mercenary Corps

In his office at the Mingyue Group, Chen Qingdi sat at his desk, holding a stack of documents.

His eyes were filled with sorrow. Not long ago, he had lost Kojima Hideko, the first captain of the Mercenary Corps he had personally founded.

Kojima Hideko had been a decisive and tenacious captain, and Chen Qingdi had valued him greatly. However, fate had played a cruel joke on them.

Kojima Hideko had been killed in action during their very first mission. The news hit Chen Qingdi like a thunderbolt, leaving him heartbroken.

He took a deep breath, adjusted his posture, and said, "Li Feng, Chen Yuan, Qian Laoliu, I need you all in here."

The three entered the office one by one and sat before his desk. They were Chen Qingdi's most capable aides and core members of the Mingyue Group. Concern and worry were evident in their eyes.

"You must have heard about what happened to Kojima Hideko. I want to hear your thoughts on the Mercenary Corps," Chen Qingdi said, getting straight to the point.

Chen Yuan was silent for a moment before speaking cautiously. "Boss, I don't think we should rely too heavily on the Mercenary Corps. After all, our primary focus is still on our industrial businesses."

"Industrial businesses? You mean those low-return, high-risk projects?" Li Feng retorted. He was a man of swift and decisive action, his eyes glinting with boldness.

"Yes, those are the exact projects I mean," Chen Yuan answered calmly. "Comparatively, the Mercenary Corps is far riskier. If we shift our focus entirely to it, we could suffer significant losses."

"Losses? Are you worried about losses, or are you just afraid to fail?" Li Feng's tone held a hint of dissatisfaction.

"Whether it's losses or failure, we should do our best to avoid both," Chen Yuan maintained.

"Boss, I agree with Chen Yuan," Qian Laoliu chimed in. "The Mercenary Corps might bring in substantial profits in the short term, but it's not a stable source of income in the long run."

"You're all being too conservative," Li Feng said, shaking his head. "We live in an age of diversification. We can't just focus on our industrial businesses. The Mercenary Corps is a vital new direction for our expansion. If we can establish an advantage in this field, our group will achieve even greater growth."

Chen Qingdi listened to them argue, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He knew they all had his best interests at heart, but their opinions were diametrically opposed.

He thought for a moment, then said, "Thank you for your advice. However, I've decided to continue developing the Mercenary Corps."

Upon hearing this decision, both Chen Yuan and Qian Laoliu looked worried. Li Feng, however, allowed a slight smile to grace his lips. He knew Chen Qingdi was a leader of vision and decisiveness.

"I will expand the size of the Mercenary Corps and invest more resources into its training and equipment."

Chen Qingdi continued, "I'm confident that if we can build a high-quality, well-equipped mercenary force, we will undoubtedly succeed."

"But, Boss, have you considered the risks?" Chen Yuan asked.

"Risk is unavoidable," Chen Qingdi said firmly. "But we can mitigate it through tighter management and improved efficiency. I believe if we can fully leverage the Mercenary Corps' strengths, we are certain to make a breakthrough in this field."

At this, neither Li Feng nor Qian Laoliu argued further with Chen Qingdi's decision.

They knew Chen Qingdi had made up his mind, and that he was a very visionary leader.

They were willing to support his decision and contribute their efforts to the development of the Mercenary Corps.

Back in his office, Chen Qingdi sat at his desk, looking down at the dozen or so subordinates before him. He couldn't help but feel a surge of emotion.

For years, they had fought and struggled side-by-side. Now they had finally achieved a measure of success, but the arguments between them were also becoming more frequent.

"Stop arguing!" Chen Qingdi said, exasperated. "We're all brothers here. Since we're brothers, we should be growing together, doing business together. Don't bicker over trivial matters. It will only drive us further apart."

Qian Laoliu sat on the sofa. He was a captain from a security company, now assigned to handle their security operations. He was burly, with thick eyebrows and large eyes—the very picture of a tough guy.

Hearing Chen Qingdi's words, he stood up. "Since the company's mercenary business is currently in full swing," he said, "and you're just short one mercenary captain, I can take the position."

Li Feng, the company's vice president, was also on the sofa. Hearing Qian Laoliu's words, he stood up as well.

"I can also act as the Mercenary Corps' manager. I guarantee that between myself and Qian Laoliu, we can manage it well."

Chen Qingdi gave a wry smile. They were all his good brothers, but their arguments were giving him a headache.

He took a deep breath and said,

"It's not that simple. The captain of the mercenaries is an exceptionally dangerous role. It requires extraordinary leadership and decision-making skills. While both of you are very experienced, whether you have the specific experience and abilities required for this needs further consideration."

Qian Laoliu and Li Feng exchanged a look, both of them clearly unconvinced.

At this moment, Qian Laoliu spoke up.

"President Chen, you underestimate me. I've been in security for many years and have a wealth of experience. I've always been a top performer on my team, and my leadership skills are not to be taken lightly."

Li Feng also spoke up. "Same here. I've worked at this company for years and have plenty of experience with operations and personnel management. I've even held similar positions at other companies, so I'm more than capable of leading the Mercenary Corps."

As he listened to them, Chen Qingdi felt a flicker of hesitation. He was well aware of their capabilities, but the position of mercenary captain was too important. It required someone with more comprehensive and exceptional talent.

He didn't want to make a rash decision and end up misplacing or wasting such capable talent.

"You both make good points," Chen Qingdi mused.

"But this position requires someone even more specialized, more exceptional. I want you both to further demonstrate your skills and experience, and then we'll all think this through together."

From that moment on, Chen Qingdi's resolve was set: he would see the Mercenary Corps through to the end. He summoned Qian Laoliu, an old friend who was now one of his company's most capable men.

Chen Qingdi told him, "Liu, I need you to take over our Mercenary Corps immediately. Begin integrating and training them. We need to be ready for the Outer Island."
