Chapter 1394: Blood Moon in the Sky
Chapter 1394: Chapter 1394: Blood Moon in the Sky
The progression of events was exactly as Pei Yan had anticipated. When each blood-colored strange creature plunged into the Heaven and Earth Net he had set up, their seemingly unbreakable bodies immediately turned into garbage tossed into a shredder, instantly sliced into countless fragments with blood mist and debris bursting forth. Out of an innate disgust for these creatures, Pei Yan instinctively stepped back, not wanting any of those vile things to touch him.
Seeing the monsters reforming into shape within the blood mist, Pei Yan sighed at the difficulty of dealing with the Blood Race. At the same time, he discerned the essence of these creatures from the transformation. In a way, they were similar to the Devouring Demons; the only difference was that these creatures, aside from having fusion with Blood Race secret techniques making them especially hard to kill, possessed a slight intelligence that the Devouring Demons lacked. This intelligence comes from pieces of souls stitched together like a hideous patchwork inside the blood-colored sphere.
Although Pei Yan did not possess soul abilities like Ye Ruozai, the torture suffered in the Soul Purgatory of the Demon Race for over two months and the pain of having his soul fragmented when devouring the Divine Artifact gave him a perception far beyond ordinary cultivators. If, when devouring souls, his soul depended on Suzi as an adhesive to barely piece his soul fragments together, remaining primarily himself, then he couldn’t even describe the existence of the souls within these Blood Race monsters. Human, beast, and some bizarre creatures that must live in the Blood Moon dimension—various souls are forcibly dismantled, twisted, and stitched together, turning into a veritable monstrosity.
Such soul bodies made Pei Yan feel his spirit polluted with just a glance—a collection of various negative emotions like fear, pain, resentment, slaughter, and sadness exploded in his mind. This impact was far more direct and overwhelming than the emotional pollution released by the Disaster Legion’s Disaster Spreaders. Yet, Pei Yan now was no longer the greenhorn with only fourth-tier awakening; refined souls and Suzi’s scrutiny inside the Divine Artifact Mechanical Eye soon cleared him from those emotions.
If killing them doesn’t work, then incineration will! Pei Yan thought about reducing them all to ashes to see if they could regenerate. With this mindset, he was about to unleash the electromagnetic cannon to sweep the floor with firepower. However, before he could spread his arms to condense the muzzle, Suzi in his mind sent out a high-energy alert. Even before he could inquire, Suzi had already formed an image of the source of the problem right before his eyes.
"How could this happen?" Seeing the image shocked Pei Yan, he hastily looked down and realized that his feet had been covered in densely packed blood-colored veins at some unknown time. These veins also seemed to extend upward. The same veins also covered the unseen skin of his back. Perhaps due to the time these veins had been covering him, they had crystallized into the blood-colored spheres that Pei Yan utterly loathed. As Pei Yan’s body swayed, those spheres dangled unpredictably like fruits growing under his skin.
"These unknown objects are formed by the blood mist you accidentally got contaminated with during the previous battle," rang Suzi’s response in his mind.
"I know! I’m asking why you didn’t detect it earlier!" Pei Yan’s mind was inevitably angered, blaming Suzi for not alerting him sooner, given the severity of the situation.
"I’m sorry, Master! After fully integrating with your new Mechanical Eye, I’ve also acquired the ability to perceive emotions. Although I can effectively manage these emotions, when your heart experiences strong emotional fluctuations, I’m still affected to a certain degree. This is a weakness I’ve only recently discovered; there has never been such a situation before, which led to the oversight," Suzi explained.
After hearing Suzi’s explanation, Pei Yan soon felt relieved. There were advantages and disadvantages to the evolution of divine artifacts. While Suzi’s assistance capabilities for him were enhanced, their connection became increasingly intimate. Just now, his intense aversion and violent impulse towards the blood-colored spheres interfered with Suzi’s ability to control the situation. Sigh! Despite having artificial intelligence assistance, he still fell for Delacuri’s scheme. If it were anyone else, they would likely have become some sort of human-shaped bonsai by now.
"Separate the monitoring of changes around yourself and your surroundings, and assign it to pure artificial intelligence for oversight," Pei Yan immediately ordered decisively.
"After detecting the issue, I’ve already implemented this, Master! Through monitoring, I discovered these unknown blood-colored life forms are rapidly infiltrating your body. My neglect in monitoring stems from, besides emotional interference affecting my focus, the primary reason being these blood-colored creatures perfectly integrate with the source energy in the surrounding space, making them hard to detect. What really alarms me is that the areas you’ve been contaminated with show signs of assimilation with the surrounding space under their erosion. This change doesn’t just happen to you but also to your comrades," Suzi informed.
Pei Yan had already gained a certain understanding from Suzi’s warnings. However, he hadn’t expected such immense changes to take place in such a short time. Looking up at his comrades battling enemies in the sky, indeed, as Suzi had warned, each of their source energy protective barriers was parasitized by those detestable blood-colored seeds. It was unclear whether it was due to their distance from the battlefield or Delacuri deliberately not catalyzing these seeds, but they hadn’t grown into those nauseating blood-colored spheres—they merely quietly clung to the surface of the energy barriers, ready to explode their hidden powers at a crucial moment.
Seeing this, Pei Yan was filled with alarm yet decisively abandoned the outer layers of his infected body, simultaneously using secret whisper techniques to inform his comrades within the battlefield to stay safe. At this moment, Delacuri, seated in a high-backed chair, opened his mouth and laughed, "It seems you’ve realized the seriousness of the problem, but I said that it’s already too late, even if you’ve noticed it."
While speaking, Delacuri stood from his chair, slowly walking away from the original position, while behind his chair, a crimson disk slowly rose into the air. When Pei Yan inadvertently made eye contact with the disk, his mind instantly went blank—the various negative emotions he had barely suppressed erupted hundreds of times more intensely. If he hadn’t undergone hellish soul training and been supported by the Mechanical Eye Divine Artifact, the emotional explosion just now would have driven him to mental collapse, transforming him into a frenzy-driven, mad killer solely expressing negative emotions.
Delacuri’s actions while seated were all part of a performance, first influencing my emotions through the blood-colored spheres, then provoking by sitting on the summoned throne, releasing blood-colored puppets that I detest to draw my attention—all just to secretly summon the disk hidden behind the chair’s back!
