One-Eyed Monster

Chapter 1399 - 1396: Restless and Uneasy

Igor felt restless and uneasy. The coffins in these graves were all engraved with symbols. After such a long time, Igor had gained some understanding of various professions, and upon seeing these symbols, he realized they were the equation symbols used by Alchemists from the Alchemy Workshop.

Igor couldn't possibly dig up these graves one by one, nor did he know how Kuyi Tulan managed to do it initially.

He no longer needed to confirm whether each grave contained a coffin engraved with symbols because Xiso's scholar could see it all; he led the way for Xiso.

"If possible, I would like to copy all these symbols and bring them back to some Alchemists to see how many types of equations these symbols can form, and what the purpose of these equations is." Xiso said casually.

"But such an undertaking is too massive. Just opening that grave just now cost us a lot of effort!" Igor said, indeed they had dug up a grave earlier, due to someone not entirely trusting Xiso's deduction.

Now, Igor felt extremely sorry for the people resting here. Although those lying here had no names, Igor kept bowing repeatedly, feeling that he had disturbed their peace.

The whole process was conducted very reverently by Igor, as it was a sign of respect for the dead.

It's hard to imagine how Kuyi Tulan treated these dead people back then…

"May the dead rest in peace here." Xiso did not plan to continue digging; he just had the thought. After all, the more they understood Kuyi Tulan, the better chance they had of finding their whereabouts.

"Senior Xiso, why do you think Kuyi Tulan staged this entire act?" Igor was still hung up on some details.

"He did it to confuse his enemies, which means us."

"But I feel like he wasn't having such smooth progress resisting that Shadow Ghost!" Igor continued.

"Oh, Igor, you must know, mixing truth with falsehood is the most deceitful thing!"

Igor scratched his head, still not quite understanding this sentence.

Some things require experiences to gradually comprehend, so Xiso did not explain the sentence much further because he believed he had found everything he came here to search for in the public graveyard.

He initially came here to gather information about the Shadow Ghost, but did not expect all the relevant information to be erased from this graveyard. It was evident someone did this, but what Xiso did not expect was finding traces of Kuyi Tulan here.

It was precisely this unexpected discovery that led him to such a deduction.

This discovery was significant. Now, Kuyi Tulan has completely disappeared, and no one knows where they are. Although Xiso thought Kuyi Tulan was within the territory of Mantai and Wensi, the lands of these two Empires were simply too vast, and they didn't know much about the situation over there. After all, such drastic changes had occurred, and the informants they had planted in the two Empires had not been able to pass on any information...

The disappearance of so many Alchemists from the Alchemy Workshop should have been big news, but now the matter seemed to have no effect, like a dud.

Finding clues was not easy for Xiso.

Igor felt extremely anxious because he couldn't find any clues at the moment; he felt somewhat helpless.

Xiso dusted off the ashes from his hands, then bowed towards the grave: "I beg forgiveness for disturbing you."

Then he picked up a pen and began copying the symbols on the coffin plank.

"Xiso, senior, you don't really plan to copy all of them, do you?" Igor was worried about Xiso's approach, given so many graves; how long would it take to dig each one?

"No, I will only copy some special symbols!" Xiso replied. As a scholar, he was somewhat familiar with various symbols. The reason he was so slow was due to some symbols he was less familiar with.

Anything unfamiliar for a scholar must hold some secret, so Xiso decided to copy them back for others to examine.

Upon hearing Xiso's words, Igor felt relieved. He didn't want to dig grave after grave; that would be extremely immoral, and besides, how many days would it take? Igor also guessed that Kuyi Tulan didn't dig one by one back then, but probably used an Exchange Beast to do it…

Thinking about this, Igor figured he had stumbled upon a good idea.

If they also had an Exchange Beast, they might be able to know all the inscriptions on the coffins in this graveyard! Igor felt excited and immediately shared the idea with Xiso.

Xiso smiled, acknowledging that Igor's plan was good but also knowing they currently lacked the conditions to implement it.

Igor scratched his head, feeling even more confused. It indeed was a tricky problem. Most Alchemists from the Alchemy Workshop had been taken away by Kuyi Tulan!

It seemed that none of the Golden Seats remained.

Which means, now Alchemists in the entire Kayne Empire were few…

"Damn Kuyi Tulan, how dare he do this!" Igor was indignant, feeling it unfair to many Alchemists!

Some might have wanted to stay in Xinbal. It was impolite to forcibly take people like that.

Of course, these were secondary issues to Igor's agitation. What bothered him most was that now there were hardly any Alchemists left!

"Ah, Senior Xiso, if this continues, how can we decipher these special symbols when there aren't any Alchemists? The remaining ones are only apprentices and handymen, and they struggle to recognize these things, right?" Igor said worriedly.

"He he he, Igor, you forget we have Master Guzan!" Xiso chuckled, reminding Igor.

At that instant, Igor realized that they still had the Great Mentor!

Master Guzan was just at Guru Mountain.

"And don't forget, the Great Mentor has three disciples, Kuyi Tulan being just one of them. Even if Milo has been taken away by that fellow now, we still have Asmon!"

Asmon, though a strange name, felt familiar to Igor. He had heard stories of Asmon, this elusive spirit, who was always a mystery. But Xiso trusted Asmon with such confidence that there must be a story behind it!

Igor looked at Xiso, unsure of what to say.

"I know you are restless now, but remember, Igor, we are completely at a disadvantage. The power of the Dark Night is about to sweep through the whole world, and how we resist it is still unknown."
