Nightmare Assault
Chapter 520: Scratch Marks
They adjusted their phones to match this world's timeline, but the time shown on them had disappeared, as if it had been wiped away. It was clear that the multi-headed ghost was behind this.
Jiang Cheng turned to Kui Yi and asked, “Do you mean the ghost wants the doors inside us?”
Kui Yi turned back and regarded Jiang Cheng strangely. “You don’t know that?!”
“If I do, why would I ask you?”
“Why would you enter the nightmare realm without even knowing that?!” Kui Yi gasped. “Brother Jiang, I hate to break it to you, but I think you’ve been scammed.”
Kui Yi was quite talkative. However, it might be because of nerves. Some people would ramble to calm their nerves. Kui Yi sighed. He glared at the window. “Anyway, that’s not important anymore. I’ve been scammed too.” He hissed, “I knew something was wrong with this door when I arrived. The guild determined that there was something wrong with the mental state of the door-holder. They were at the edge of corruption.
“As you know, people like us aren’t exactly sane. After all, we are cursed, and we might be consumed by the door at any moment. That was my assumption. An unstable door-holder was behind everything. Who knew Xiang Nan’s door had been fully corrupted? The curse has exploded. This is not something we can handle. I wonder how many holders the door has consumed already. It is now a movable curse. It is doing this on purpose to lure people like us over to swallow our doors.” Kui Yi’s eyes burned with fear. “This is a trap! It is hunting us!”
Based on what the middle-aged man said, Jiang Cheng didn’t have any trouble understanding Kui Yi… except for the guild? What was this organisation?
“What is the guild?” Jiang Cheng would not give up this chance. Kui Yi knew quite a bit.
Kui Yi was startled. “Don’t you know the guild?! Then, how did you get this job?” Suddenly, Kui Yi realised something horrible. He moved away from Jiang Cheng. “Are you with Deep Red?” Considering the thing inside Jiang Cheng’s door, Kui Yi believed he was right. “How am I so unlucky?” Kui Yi’s pupils trembled. “I got scammed by the guild, and I encountered Deep Red!“Brother from Deep Red!” Kui Yi knelt. If not for the worry about the ghost, he’d kowtow. “Please forgive me. Let me go. I can surrender all my payments to you. I’ll listen to your orders. Please don’t kill me.” Kui Yi’s eyes reddened. “I have an 8-year-old mother and an 80-year-old son. Plus, I’ve just adopted a few sisters at my seaside villa. I need to pay the housing loan for another 60 years. I don’t want to die yet.”
Jiang Cheng’s eyes chilled. The way he looked at Kui Yi changed. “I’m surprised you can tell,” He uttered. “But you’re lucky. I don’t want to kill today.” Jiang Cheng raised his brow. “But are you serious when you said that you live in a seaside villa and have many Loli sisters?”
“Of course.”
“Then, I’ll help you look after them in the future.” Jiang Cheng offered kindly, “Our world is not safe anymore. You don’t wish for them to be in danger, right?
“Alright. It’s decided then. I’m going out now,” Jiang Cheng ordered, “Stay close to me.” He needed Kui Yi to give him more information about the doors, so he wouldn’t let him die.
“Are we leaving now?” Kui Yi shivered. “The ghost might still be around. It might be waiting for us to leave this hiding place.”
“Or it has gone to find Director Qi to complete the ritual.” Jiang Cheng glanced at him. “Then, we’ll all die.”
Kui Yi hesitated. He knew that Jiang Cheng was right, but it didn’t mean that he wanted to face the ghost. Honestly, once he thought about the many heads on the ghost, he would tremble. Based on what he knew, at least two people had disappeared investigating this case. If not for the guarantee of the guild, the new seaside villa, and his sisters' demand for purses, he wouldn’t have accepted this job.
Those two must have been eaten by the ghost already.
Kui Yi glanced at Jiang Cheng. He might be helpless, but that didn’t mean that it was hopeless. After all, everyone from Deep Red had something special about them, or they wouldn’t have survived for so long.
“Brother from Deep Red.” Kui Yi stood up obediently. “Your wish is my command.”
Jiang Cheng turned around to stare at Kui Yi curiously. “I want the Lolis with you, not you. Be respectful!”
“Of course!”
Jiang Cheng glanced through the gap in the door. Other than the flickering lights, everything looked normal.
When they were in the stairwell, Kui Yi asked softly, “Where are we going?”
“Room 624,” Jiang Cheng answered with a shrug. Yu Yu mentioned that was where they found Zhao Ru’s decapitated corpse. Jiang Cheng believed that the room was special to the ghost. Director Qi might be hiding there.
It was exceptionally quiet. But it was a silence thick with danger. A strange air surrounded them. Kui Yi checked every door, as if the ghost would pop out at any moment.
“Hmm?” Jiang Cheng halted. They arrived on the sixth floor. After turning the corner, they’d reach the corridor that would bring them to Room 624. Deep inside the door, there was a brilliant red.
It was blood on the floor.
The door to Room 624 was left open. Blood pooled around it. It seeped through the bottom. The wooden door had fresh scratch marks. Jiang Cheng even found broken nails around the marks.
The uneven nails were embedded in the door. When the person was dragged into Room 624, they were struggling hard.
