Nightmare Assault
Chapter 519: This is the End
The plan was complete, but during execution, Jiang Cheng hesitated. He stared down at Fatty as their shared memories crossed his mind. Honestly, Fatty was very good to him. Even though he loved to complain, Fatty had a clear understanding of himself. He was reliable both in the nightmares and in real life.
It looked like Jiang Cheng was the one who dragged them back every time, but Jiang Cheng knew that he wouldn’t have survived for so long without Fatty. For example, if Fatty didn’t gain the beggar’s trust in the ancient China nightmare, everyone would have died. This had nothing to do with capability.
Jiang Cheng revised that mission many times in his mind. He reached the same conclusion every time. Both Deep Red and Night Guardians would have done the same thing he did, which was to capture the girl and force her to speak. Only Fatty showed her true concern and thought about saving a meat bun for her. Everything they did in the nightmare would be wiped away once they left. The professionals didn’t have the patience. They were there to survive, not to do charity.
Jiang Cheng tried to see things from Fatty’s perspective, but he failed. It made him feel so dumb, like he had lost his head. He couldn’t figure out how Fatty managed to live for so long and hadn’t been sold to some backwards mountain mind. Furthermore, why would the organisation behind Fatty keep him around for so long?
His hand on the hilt loosened and tightened. Jiang Cheng told himself that he was merely trying to find the right angle. Fatty snored happily. He had no idea that he was about to turn into a corpse.
Jiang Cheng finally made his move. His hands stopped trembling. The chill in his eyes firmed to silence all the noises. Everything was over.
The blade aimed at Fatty’s throat. Jiang Cheng took a deep breath and glanced at Fatty one last time.
However…
Fatty opened his eyes blurrily. Clearly, he was shocked by Jiang Cheng, who stood beside him. “The fuck! Doctor, what are you doing here?”
Jiang Cheng panicked for a moment. The blade trembled, “...”The sun was coming up. When Fatty saw the blade in Jiang Cheng’s knife, his pupils narrowed, and his expression became strange.
He couldn’t wait any longer.
Just as Jiang Cheng was about to finish everything, Fatty suddenly leaned close to the knife and gasped joyfully, “Doctor, where did you find this knife?
“I knew I didn’t lose it. I left it in the kitchen. I knew it didn’t walk away on its own. You must have dumped it somewhere after you’ve used it!” Fatty groused, “And you refused to admit it! I had to use the dull fruit knife to cut the potatoes!” Then, Fatty reached out to grab the knife. Jiang Cheng ultimately let go. Fatty examined the blade. “Doctor, this blade is so sharp. Did you wake up early this morning to sharpen it?” He looked up at Jiang Cheng. It was about 6 am. Based on Fatty’s understanding of Jiang Cheng, the latter wouldn’t wake up so early. Normally, he’d wake up after he was done preparing breakfast.
“That’s right.” Jiang Cheng forced himself to say, “I woke up to hire the old smith to sharpen the knife.”
Fatty flashed a wicked smile. “Doctor, you must have woken up in the morning to spend that fake 10 dollars, right? You knew the old man would have bad eyesight in the morning. Doctor, you can’t do that. He doesn’t earn that much.” Fatty frowned. “We can’t bully good people like that.” Fatty stood up and shrugged on his coat. He took out small bills from his pockets. “Doctor, the old smith hasn’t gone far, right? I’ll pay him the money. I’ll just tell him you got the bills mistaken and told me to correct the mistake.” Fatty carried the knife and ran down the stairs.
Jiang Cheng was left alone in the shadows. He lowered his head thoughtfully.
When Fatty returned, he noticed Jiang Cheng had returned to his bedroom. The door was closed. “Doctor,” Fatty spoke through the door. “I couldn’t find the old man, but since I am already awake, I feel like visiting the market. The vegetables will be so fresh. Oh. Since we found the knife, I can finally make ribs. What do you want to pair it with?” Fatty suggested, “Doctor, how about some yams? They are good for the kidney, perfect for you.”
There was no response.
Fatty frowned and prompted, “Doctor?”
“I’m not hungry,” Jiang Cheng replied. He sounded drained. “Just make your own portion.”
“Okay.” Fatty put on his clothes and left. He felt like the Doctor was acting strangely, like he was hiding something from him. Fatty scratched his head but couldn’t think of anything. He decided to forget about it. After all, the Doctor wouldn’t harm him. He must have his own plan. He shouldn’t stand in the Doctor’s way. With that in mind, Fatty grabbed the vegetable basket and left for the market. If the fish were fresh, he’d cook a meal for the Doctor in the afternoon. He seemed to enjoy the fish soup last time. Fatty smiled at the sun.
“Hey!” Kui Yi’s voice interrupted Jiang Cheng, “What are you thinking about?”
The thoughts lasted for like seconds. Kui Yi noticed that Jiang Cheng was spacing out so he quickly warned him. They were in extreme danger. Why would he space out at a time like this? Was he not afraid of death?
“What time is it?” Jiang Cheng whispered.
It had been silent for so long. The ghost appeared to have disappeared.
“I don’t know.” Kui Yi glanced through the gap in the door. He answered softly, “Didn’t you notice it? Ever since the multi-headed ghost appeared, the passage of time had been thrown into chaos.”
