Chapter 515: Reunion

“That’s great. I’ll leave his safety with you. However, don’t expect me to fight the ghost. The most I can do is to buy you time.” Kui Yi messaged, “How are Cao Yang and Yu Yu?”

“They are still alive and hiding at the hospital. I’ve informed them that the ghost has taken your appearance, so you better not go and find them,” Jiang Cheng replied.

“Understood.” So far, Kui Yi sounded trustworthy to Jiang Cheng, but he wouldn’t reveal crucial information to him, like Director Qi’s actual location.

“We’re almost there,” Lin Wan ‘Er announced, “I can already see the hospital.” The dark hospital was like a beast lying in wait. From their location, they could only see a massive shadow. The place was silent. Lin Wan ‘Er stopped when they were about 100 metres away from the entrance. They left the car and walked towards the hospital. The lobby was bright, but there was no one around.

Director Qi said that he saw Kui Yi at the lobby. However, the ghost had once again disappeared. Did Jiang Cheng’s caution pay off? Had the ghost gone to the motel to look for Director Qi?

Jiang Cheng thought about calling Director Qi but decided against it. He messaged him instead. Soon, he received the reply.

They soon encountered Director Qi curled up behind a tree. When he saw Jiang Cheng and Lin Wan ‘Er, he almost cried. “I finally found you. When Kui Yi left the hospital, I was so scared. I thought he would come find me.”

“Wait. Kui Yi left the hospital?!” Jiang Cheng asked.

“Yes. He left not long after our call. He was standing there earlier.” Director Qi pointed at the hospital entrance. “However, he left in a hurry after checking his phone.” As expected… Kui Yi was dead. The person messaging Jiang Cheng was the ghost. The ghost’s target was Director Qi. When it found out that Director Qi was not at the hospital, it hurried away. However, how was the ghost supposed to find the actual motel when he didn’t even ask Jiang Cheng for the details?

Nevertheless, it didn’t matter. Director Qi was more important. He was the person who would help them survive. Once he lived until 16th October, the prediction would be broken, and they would have cleared the mission. As for whether the ghost would disappear, Jiang Cheng couldn’t care less. He just wanted to leave this world with Lin Wan ‘Er.

   Previously, he wanted to ask Kui Yi for more details about the door, but the man had already died. The scaly arm was rather useless. Jiang Cheng wondered how he had even got that skill in the first place.

   It was very dark. Jiang Cheng looked around. “Come,” Jiang Cheng suggested, “Let’s enter the hospital and meet up with the others first.”

   “Okay.” Director Qi nodded vehemently. His body was covered in scars from hiding in the bushes.

   Director Qi followed Jiang Cheng. After a while, he asked, “We are…” Jiang Cheng didn’t go towards the lobby but moved around it.

   “We’re using the side door,” Jiang Cheng answered. Jiang Cheng knew from Blind Zheng that the hospital had a side door. The front door was too conspicuous. Jiang Cheng thought the bright and empty lobby looked too unsafe. It was a trap. Perhaps the ghost hadn’t left. It was waiting for them to walk into the trap.

   They reached the side door. Jiang Cheng looked around. The group slipped through the door. The hospital was very quiet. The people had disappeared. All the doors were closed, even the door to Blind Zheng’s room. Every door was shrouded in darkness, hiding some kind of stories.

   They moved through the stairs to the second floor. When they passed the lobby between two corridors, Director Qi suddenly halted. He opened his mouth, and his face paled, “The… elevator!”

   The elevator had moved and stopped on the second floor. Before Jiang Cheng could react, the elevator pinged, and the door opened. The booth was empty.

   Jiang Cheng instantly shielded Director Qi behind him. The man’s legs trembled. The strange thing was that the elevator doors remained open. They showed no sign of closing, as if someone was inside holding the door open.

   A few seconds later, half a face peered out from behind the elevator door. It was Kui Yi!

   Jiang Cheng grabbed Director Qi and turned to escape. They fell for the tricks. The ghost didn’t leave. Everything Director Qi saw was false.

   “Wait!” Kui Yi shouted in panic. He pleaded, “Don’t run. I’m human. I’m the real Kui Yi. I am not the ghost!”

   Director Qi was so scared that he could barely move. He took a few steps before Kui Yi caught up to them. Jiang Cheng abandoned Director Qi and turned to face Kui Yi.

   “Stop!” Kui Yi raised his arms in surrender. “Brother, I’m human!”

   Jiang Cheng kicked Kui Yi to the ground. The latter didn’t fight back. He covered his chest and cried, “Brother… Stop…”

   “He should be a human,” Lin Wan ‘Er intervened.

   “Of course I’m a human. If I were a ghost, you would be dead already.” Kui Yi complained, “I just came from the morgue. I couldn’t use the elevator until moments ago. I quickly came upstairs.”

   Seeing the living Director Qi, Kui Yi looked relieved.

   Jiang Cheng took out his phone to call Yu Yu. However, it rang twice before the call ended.

   “Why would she hang up on me?” Jiang Cheng stared at his phone, confused. He tried to make another call. The result was the same. Jiang Cheng felt that something was wrong.

   Soon, he received a message from Yu Yu. Jiang Cheng clicked the message, and someone named Little Fishstick wanted to be his friend on WhatsApp. Once he accepted the request, he received a video.

   The video was dark. Eventually, Jiang Cheng noticed it was a video of the small field in front of the hospital. It should have been recorded not too long ago. From the angle, the video was probably taken from a window on a higher floor.

   A car drove through the dark. A man in a windcoat exited the car hurriedly and jogged towards the hospital. Thanks to the lobby lights, the video became clearer. As the man in the coat approached the hospital, Jiang Cheng recognised him. It was Director Qi!

   He finally disappeared from view.

   The last frame was of him running into the hospital lobby.
