Nightmare Assault
Chapter 514: Safe
The call ended. It was not Lin Wan ‘Er. It was Yu Yu. After all, she was too young to handle something like this. Lin Wan ‘Er tossed the phone to Jiang Cheng and continued to drive as if nothing had ever happened. Soon, the phone rang again. It was an unknown number.
Jiang Cheng thought about it and chose to answer it.
“Hello. Where are you?” It was a male voice, sounding scared. “I’m here. Why… Can’t I see any of you?” It was Director Qi. “The hospital is so dark. Did the lights go out? Strange. Why didn’t anyone tell me anything?” Director Qi continued on his own.
“Have you returned to the hospital?” Jiang Cheng asked.
“What are you talking about?” Director Qi was annoyed. “Didn’t you tell me to come back to the hospital because you’ve solved everything and you need me to pay you? I’m warning you. Don’t play tricks on me.” Director Qi was furious. “Unless you annihilate everything, I will not give you a single cent. I’ll even report you to the police.”
“Shut your mouth!” Jiang Cheng asked. “Tell me. Did Kui Yi call you back to the hospital?”
“Yes…” Director Qi seemed to realise something was wrong. He asked, “Why don’t you know that?”
Of course, Jiang Cheng wouldn’t know that. Why would the travellers call him back to the hospital? Once Director Qi died, the travellers would perish.
“Hmm?” Before Jiang Cheng could say anything, Director Qi seemed to have spotted something.
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Cheng quickly asked.“There’s a light at the hospital,” Director Qi explained.
“Where is it?”
“It’s on the third floor… No. It has moved to the second floor,” Director Qi continued. “Wait. Even the lights on the first floor are coming on. The lobby is lit up.” A few seconds later, Director Qi narrowed his eyes to take a closer look at the person who came through the hospital front door. “It’s Kui Yi.”
This was bad…
“Has he discovered you?”
“I don’t think so. I’m hiding behind a tree. I’m quite far from the hospital entrance. I didn’t enter the hospital because it was too dark. Instead, I chose to call you.”
Jiang Cheng sighed in relief. Thankfully, the man wasn’t too dumb. It looked like the ghost was bound by limitations. Perhaps she couldn’t leave the hospital. There was still a chance.
“Calm down and listen to me,” Jiang Cheng said officiously. “None of us has called you. The person who called you back to the hospital is the ghost.”
“What?!”
“You can scream louder so the ghost can find you,” Jiang Cheng mocked.
Director Qi panicked. “Do you mean… Kui Yi, who is at the lobby now, is a ghost?” His voice trembled.
“That’s right.”
“She is still alive… You haven’t killed her?”
“Don’t push it. I might not be able to save you from the ghost, but I have ways to get the ghost to kill you.” Jiang Cheng was calm.
“Okay. Don’t be mad. I’ll follow your orders,” Director Qi pleaded. “I don’t want to die. If you can save me, I’ll give you all the money you want.”
“We’re about to reach the hospital. It’ll be in the next twenty minutes. Go and hide. When we reach the hospital, we’ll call you.” Jiang Cheng added, “Put your phone into silent mode. Other than my call, don’t accept anyone else’s.”
“Okay.”
Since he put it on speaker, Lin Wan ‘Er heard everything. After the ghost killed Kui Yi, it pretended to be him and tricked Director Qi into coming to the hospital. It was almost time for the ritual. Director Qi was the last step.
“What will happen once he’s killed?” Lin Wan ‘Er asked. “Will we die instantly?”
“I don’t know.” Jiang Cheng shook his head. “But I fear it won’t be that simple.”
“It looks like the ghost can’t kill through the phone,” Lin Wan ‘Er concluded. “Or else it wouldn’t need to lie to get Director Qi to come to the hospital. Call Kui Yi now,” Lin Wan ‘Er told Jiang Cheng. Try to buy some time.” She turned to Jiang Cheng. “By the way, are there any bumpers near the hospital entrance?”
Jiang Cheng hesitated before answering, “Actually… I don’t think you can kill a ghost with a car.”
“Have you tried that?” Lin Wan ‘Er was intrigued.
“No. This is my first time at a place like this.”
“Is it really?” Lin Wan ‘Er glanced at him. The latter casually looked away to adjust his seatbelt.
“I’m about to call Kui Yi.” Jiang Cheng said, “You should focus on the road.”
The call was answered and hung up almost instantly. This was beyond Jiang Cheng’s expectation. He thought the ghost would use this chance to triangulate his location.
“Ding!” Soon, a message came to his phone.
“Do you want to kill me? Stop calling me. I’m trapped at the morgue. Wang Changguo is dead. He has been dead for a long time. I found him at the morgue. His body is cool. The ghost has been acting as him. We have been tricked.” The message mimicked Kui Yi’s tone perfectly. The fact that Kui Yi was still alive was beyond Jiang Cheng’s expectations. However, it was not impossible. The ghost’s immediate goal was to complete the ritual and not to kill them.
“The ghost is not near you.” Jiang Cheng replied. “Try to leave the morgue and go to the hospital entrance. The ghost is there. It is taking your disguise.”
“What is the ghost doing as me at the hospital entrance?” Another message came. “It didn’t go for you… So has it gone for Director Qi?” Kui Yi was clear-minded. He knew Director Qi was the ghost’s ultimate goal.
“The ghost used your phone to call Director Qi to get him to come to the hospital.” Jiang Cheng answered via message.
Soon…
“Damn it! Is Director Qi at the hospital? Where is he?” Kui Yi was agitated. After all, this was related to their lives. If Director Qi died, the mission would be over. And the consequence… Kui Yi didn’t know. After all, everyone who failed had disappeared.
Jiang Cheng continued to type. “You can stop worrying for now. I’ve contacted Director Qi. I stopped him before he could reach the hospital. I told him to go and hide at a nearby hotel. He is very safe now.”
