New Ability Every Ten Days: Becoming a Vampire Made Me Too OP
Chapter 186: A Clash from Afar
A flash of red light appeared in the Blue Planet's atmosphere. Yu Xian materialized out of thin air and gazed down at the surface below.
Although his combat power was far inferior to Edward's, he had never placed complete faith in numbers on paper. Sometimes, the only way to know who was stronger was to fight. Of course, if the gap was too enormous, there was no point in recklessly courting death.
Yu Xian raised a hand and fixed his gaze on a certain country below. "Edward, let me see what you're truly capable of..."
A mass of crimson energy appeared in his palm. Under his control, it spun rapidly before transforming into a spear with razor-sharp points at both ends. The spiraling spear radiated such a powerful aura that the clouds below were forced apart, leaving a vast expanse of clear sky.
Yu Xian still felt that it was not enough. With a thought, the spatial bubble on the Red Planet rapidly expanded. Vast quantities of rock were instantly sliced apart by chaotic space, then teleported into the spiraling spear. The spear had originally been only two meters long, but after absorbing the mass of rock, it swelled into a colossal weapon ten meters long.
Still not enough!
Yu Xian recalled Edward's casual attack. The shadow behind him immediately stretched outward, transforming into billowing black smoke that poured into the spear, turning the once-crimson shaft into a swirling weave of deep red and obsidian black.
I can still push it further!
Red light shone in Yu Xian's eyes as bones rapidly proliferated from his arm, forming a colossal skeletal hand. The enormous skeletal hand gripped the spear. He poured the True Crimson Energy within his True Crimson Demon Core into the spear, increasing the weapon's length to one hundred meters.
The True Crimson Demon Core was, in fact, what was commonly known as a Divine Core. Yu Xian's Divine Core was located in his chest. As it released True Crimson Energy, a cross-shaped radiance shone from his chest. His body stirred despite the absence of wind, his long silver hair and trench coat snapping loudly around him.
Feeling himself approaching his limit, Yu Xian immediately controlled the giant skeletal hand and hurled the spear toward the ground with all his might. "Go!"
The hundred-meter spiraling spear shot forward in an instant, streaking across the sky like a crimson meteor.
At the heart of the Kingdom of Luzon, pampered by a bevy of blonde beauties, Edward watched with amused detachment as the nation's upper echelons plunged into civil war. The president repeatedly swung a broad saber, forcing the king steadily backward. Both men were covered in deep cuts, and blood had pooled across the floor.
Not far from them, the president's wife was locked in combat with the queen. Their clothes had been torn to tatters during the fight, and neither retained the slightest concern for dignity.
"Hurry up. The sun will set in another hour," Edward said casually. He took a sip of freshly drawn blood from the woman beside him and watched the four continue slaughtering one another with a smile.
Sure enough, the moment they heard that only an hour remained, both sides fought with even greater desperation. Edward had promised that only two of them would be allowed to survive and that those two could even be granted immortality. Naturally, none of them were willing to surrender such an opportunity.
However, just as the president severed the king's lower leg with a slash, the Devil Cross inside Edward's airborne palace erupted with crimson light. The next moment, it shot into the air and spun rapidly. Only then did Edward react, a beat too late. He rose and turned toward the sky.
The clouds that had blanketed the sky suddenly parted. Edward hurriedly wrapped himself in his cloak and put on a pair of sunglasses. His expression gradually turned grave as he watched the sky become crimson, as though the apocalypse had arrived.
It's here!
A colossal spiraling spear descended from the sky. While it was still a thousand meters above the ground, the ground below began collapsing inward layer by layer. Countless people were unable to withstand the immense pressure and dropped to their knees or were even forced flat against the ground, barely managing to turn their heads and watch the spear fall.
Edward stared at the descending spear. "There's actually someone this powerful on the Blue Planet? Who is it?"
Names of countless powerful figures flashed through his mind. Vampires had infiltrated various countries across the Blue Planet, and Edward had always ordered his subordinates to gather information on each nation's strongest supernatural beings. Information on Western supernatural beings was the easiest to obtain, whereas those in the East were far more reserved and tended to conceal their strength. Only the supernatural beings of the Island Nation were particularly fond of showing off.
"Could it be someone from Huaxia?" In the end, that was the only possibility Edward could think of.
At that moment, the spiraling spear collided with the Devil Cross. Two masses of crimson energy erupted simultaneously, causing the surrounding people to cough up blood and lose consciousness. Only Edward stood motionless, his cloak constantly twisting and changing shape amid the violent energy fluctuations.
In the Blue Planet's atmosphere, Yu Xian kept his eyes closed as he observed the clash between the spiraling spear and the Devil Cross from another angle. The corners of his mouth slowly curled upward. True Crimson Energy gathered in his right hand, forming a two-meter-long energy spear.
True Crimson Energy was an existence similar to the divine power of deceit. It encompassed five attributes. Although it contained fewer attributes than the Giant Serpent's divine power, each of its five attributes was among the most powerful of its kind.
God and demon represented the sacred and darkness attributes; light and shadow represented the light-element and shadow attributes; illusion and reality represented the illusion and spatial attributes; while bone and flesh represented the undead and life attributes. Finally, there was the blood attribute, which represented the very essence of a vampire.
With a slight exertion of force, Yu Xian hurled the True Crimson Spear in his hand. "Go!"
The moment it left his hand, the spear vanished. In the next instant, it appeared directly above Edward and descended from the sky. The attack was so fast that Edward had no time to react. However, while he could not respond in time, the Devil Cross's autonomous defenses could.
The Devil Cross erupted with brilliant crimson light. Still holding back the pressure of the spiraling spear, it diverted a portion of its energy above Edward's head and barely caught the descending True Crimson Spear.
Edward looked up at the razor-sharp spear, his forehead covered in beads of sweat and his pupils trembling with shock. If the spear hit him, even if it failed to kill him, he would probably be severely injured. After all, physically, he was relatively fragile, nowhere near as durable as the Star Divine Artifact.
Edward normally spoke the Romulus Dominion language, but this time, his composure finally shattered, and he cursed in his native tongue. "Damn it!"[1]
He instantly manipulated the Devil Cross's energy and used it to pull himself toward it. Then, he pressed a hand against the cross, unleashing an even more tremendous surge of energy. The spiraling spear and the True Crimson Spear held out for only two seconds before the terrifying energy storm shattered them both instantly.
The energy fluctuations radiating from the Devil Cross grew increasingly violent. The energy it unleashed formed a colossal pillar, reducing everyone who had been unconscious on the ground to nothing. The earth split apart and was peeled back layer by layer, swept away by the overwhelming shockwave.
"You skulking coward! Die! Soul-Chasing Blood Spear!"
Edward exerted all his strength to control the Devil Cross and unleashed his most powerful attack. A vast surge of energy transformed into a spear and shot into the sky, racing toward Yu Xian's location at astonishing speed.
Far above in the atmosphere, Yu Xian had already witnessed everything through his eyeball bubbles. Now, his eyeball bubbles were formed from Primordial Pureblood and True Crimson Energy. Not only were they extremely stable, but they were also exceptionally well concealed. They had watched Edward directly throughout the entire encounter, yet he had not detected their presence in the slightest.
Yu Xian opened his eyes and looked down at the rapidly approaching blood spear. He also wanted to test the strength of his defenses. He extended a hand toward the incoming spear, and countless bubble shields appeared before him. These bubbles were no longer formed from mutated Blood Energy, but from the far more complex Primordial Pureblood. Both their nature and their capabilities were worlds apart from before.
Yu Xian stared at the blood spear. Come on! Let me see just how great the gap between us really is!
