Chapter 39: First and second elders

  • Next Chapter

Looking calm, Quin Xuxu grabbed the side of her huge fan with both hands before swinging it towards the incoming attack with all her might.

A strong gust of wind appeared after she did that; it turned into a tall tornado that rolled towards the giant scimitar.

Bang!

The two attacks clashed, creating shockwaves that made the others watching cover their faces with their hands. The scimitar and the tornado kept clashing with one another, constantly producing weak shockwaves.

The scimitar was trying to split the tornado in two, while the latter wanted to shred the former into pieces.

While both attacks struggled with one another, Quin Xuxu was already moving. She dashed towards her opponent while dragging her fan behind her.

The other party noticed this and rushed over as well. Both of them quickly arrived before each other, and a black scimitar slashed down towards Quin Xuxu.

Bam!

She used her fan to block the attack before throwing her legs forward. Using the fan as a pole, she sent out a flying kick.

Not expecting such a move, her opponent realised she wouldn’t be able to retrieve her weapon in time and quickly tried blocking the kick with her other arm while pulling back her scimitar at the same time.

A glint flashed across Quin Xuxu’s eyes.

Swoosh!

With fluid movements, Quin Xuxu changed the direction of her kick, sending it towards the ground.

Her foot slammed into the ground in front of her opponent, and without wasting time, she used the momentum to pull her fan into the air before bringing it down.

Boom!

Qi surged within her as Quin Xuxu activated a skill. The fan suddenly grew in size; it blocked the sky above the platform as it descended on her opponent, who was still anticipating a kick.

The spectating disciples gasped as they watched the humongous wooden fan drop to the ground.

Boom!

The fan landed with a powerful impact. The ground shook, and violent shockwaves pushed some of the women who were watching backwards, as well as destroying the tornado and the giant scimitar.

Everyone looked at the other end of the platform, wanting to see what had become of Quin Xuxu’s opponent. They were all stunned by what they saw instead.

The brown-haired woman was currently sitting on the floor of the platform with a pale face, her scimitar lying on the ground not far from her. Standing in front of her was a cold-faced Feng Shuran who was holding up the wooden fan with one hand.

She had stopped the attack before it could reach the woman.

Realising who had stopped her attack, Quin Xuxu hurriedly ended the skill, and the fan rapidly shrunk back to its original size.

Holding the fan on the side with one hand, she bowed.

"Sect master,"

Feng Shuran lowered her hand and looked at the pale-faced woman for a moment before turning to the crowd.

"Who wants to fight her next?" she asked expressionlessly.

The other five Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators glanced at each other; none of them wanted to fight Quin Xuxu.

Her fan was too powerful, and her fighting style changed too rapidly. They also noticed that her qi was stronger than theirs; she was most likely nearing the Core Formation Realm.

They were not her opponent.

It was best to save their strength and fight for the other positions.

After waiting for some time, Feng Shuran was disappointed that nobody came up to challenge Quin Xuxu.

She had expected something like this; this white-haired woman was the strongest amongst the Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators she had accepted.

"Since no one wants to fight, Quin Xuxu is now the first elder of the Bloody Rose sect!" Feng Shuran announced.

Everyone else below the platform bowed after hearing this.

"Greetings, first elder!" Their voices chorused.

Quin Xuxu looked at them with a simple smile on her face; she then bowed towards Feng Shuran.

"Thank you, sect master." She said before going down the platform.

Feng Shuran nodded at her before looking at the crowd and announcing that it was time to fight for the second elder position.

This time, anyone with two straight victories would become the second elder of the sect.

After saying this, Feng Shuran glanced at the woman behind her. Her face was no longer pale, and she had picked up her scimitar at some point.

"I can still fight, sect master." Noticing Shuran’s gaze, the woman bowed and said respectfully.

Shuran nodded; she had no issues with that.

Someone quickly came up to challenge the brown-haired woman. They started fighting the moment Feng Shuran returned to the sitting area and sat beside Gu Chen.

The battle between Quin Xuxu and the scimitar user had ended very quickly due to Quin Xuxu’s relentless fighting style; she barely gave her opponent any chance to attack back, and her attacks were unpredictable.

Gu Chen was slightly impressed. The fan user’s unpredictable and swift fighting style had allowed her to defeat her opponent in just a few moves. With such a huge fan, one would naturally assume she would keep her distance and use ranged attacks.

Who charges at their opponent while dragging a weapon that was as huge as them around?

"What do you think of our first elder?" Shuran asked as she returned to his side.

"Not bad. She looks gentle but has an aggressive and fluid fighting style; her opponent wouldn’t be able to react since they didn’t expect her to be like that." Gu Chen said truthfully.

Feng Shuran smiled and said nothing else; her master was right.

Back on the platform, the fight between the two Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators was still going on.

The scimitar user finally had the chance to display more of her abilities as her opponent wasn’t as aggressive as Quin Xuxu.

But that didn’t mean that her opponent was easy. It was a tall woman with long yellow hair; she wielded a long spear that created flames in the air.

After several minutes of fighting, the scimitar user finally managed to defeat her opponent by using the skill she had used on Quin Xuxu previously.

Unlike Quin Xuxu, the yellow-haired woman was affected by the sounds of clashing blades, which caused her attacks to lose power. She ended up getting blown off the platform and flying into the crowd.

However, the scimitar user was exhausted after the fight and blood was dripping down her arm from under her sleeves. She was injured!

Feng Shuran asked if she still wanted to continue fighting or stop here. If she stopped, she could take the time to rest while others fought.

....

"I, can still fight!" She said strongly. She was gasping for air, but a stubborn look could be seen in her eyes.

Feng Shuran stared at her silently before nodding.

Her next opponent quickly came up to the platform, and the fight started.

The moment the fight started, the scimitar user suddenly dashed towards her opponent while rubbing some of her blood on the flat surface of her blade.

The scimitar suddenly changed from black to bright red, and the temperature around the platform swiftly increased.

"Haa!" She shouted and swung down with everything in her.

Roar!

A furious flaming dragon rose from the scimitar and roared into the air before flying towards the new fighter at full speed.

In the sitting area, Feng Shuran shook her head and disappeared from her seat.

On the platform, the scimitar user’s opponent was startled by the aura of the flaming dragon. She stood rooted in place as she watched the huge mouth of the dragon coming closer, a strong heatwave brushing her skin.

Just when she thought that the flaming dragon was about to crash into her, a graceful figure in a white dress appeared in front of her and slapped the dragon into the air with a gentle move of her hand.

It was the sect master!

Roar!

Boom!

After Feng Shuran slapped the dragon, it flew into the air and exploded like fireworks. A strong heatwave enveloped the entire place for a moment due to the dragon’s explosion before quickly disappearing.

The others who were watching gulped; the might of the flaming dragon had shocked all of them.

Thankfully, the sect master had reacted quickly.

The scimitar user knelt on the concrete, completely exhausted. Her scimitar barely remained in her hand as she didn’t even have enough strength to hold it anymore.

She just stared at Feng Shuran’s calm face with a helpless smile, as if saying she had done her best.

Looking at that smile, Feng Shuran’s expression didn’t change. She waved her right hand, and a small bottle appeared in the air before flying towards the woman on the ground.

Using all the strength she had left, the woman caught the bottle and poured its contents onto her other palm. A small pill fell on her palm.

The pill had a rich herbal scent and a bit of qi in it. It was a recovery pill!

The woman’s expression shifted, and she immediately placed her forehead on the ground.

"Thank you, sect master!" She voiced out.

Shuran nodded and then turned to the crowd.

"Ming Yue is now the second elder of the Bloody Rose sect!"
