Chapter 421: Chapter 421: Did Gary Dawson Tell You

The two men, squatting with their hands over their heads, glanced at each other, cursing their luck.

If only they hadn’t waited for that lady. They would have driven off early and not been cornered here by the police.

Great, now they were caught. Looked like they’d be eating prison food for a while.

Noticing their expressions, the police officer guarding them spoke up, reminding them to stay put and not try to communicate with their eyes.

Meanwhile, following Zoe Sawyer’s guidance, Sean Hughes and his team quickly rushed to the room where the children were being held captive.

As soon as they opened the door, they saw a young man lying on the floor and a group of children huddled together, trembling uncontrollably.

He saw the whip marks on their bodies, their emaciated frames, and their terrified expressions. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a whip behind the door, stained with traces of blood.

Sean Hughes finally lost it, slamming his hand hard against the door panel. "These damned human traffickers!"

Without wasting any more time, he assigned his team members their tasks: some to rescue the children, others to restrain the man.

Everything went smoothly at first, but as they approached the children, their fearful reactions were strangely intense.

Sean Hughes frowned. He took his badge out of his pocket, squatted down a short distance away, flipped it open, and held it out.

He soothed them in a gentle voice, "We’re the police. Don’t be afraid. We’re here to rescue you."

He repeated this several times, but the expressions on the children’s faces didn’t change.

Sean Hughes noted their slightly darker complexions. Connecting that with the fact that they hadn’t reacted at all to anything he’d said, he felt a sudden sense of foreboding.

’Could it be... they aren’t from this country?’

At this thought, Sean Hughes quickly switched to English, simply stating that he was the police and was there to rescue them.

This time, the children reacted. But instead of relaxing as Sean Hughes had hoped, their faces grew even more fearful when they heard the word "police."

There was no other choice. To get them out as quickly as possible, Sean Hughes had to request authorization to use a tranquilizer gun to sedate the children. They then broke the chains and rushed them to the hospital.

After the children were sent away, Ms. Yorke, who had been unconscious in the room, was also brought out by Sean Hughes and his team.

The things she had been trying to retrieve from under the bed were also recovered by Sean Hughes and his officers.

The next steps were much simpler.

He assigned a team to transport the four suspects to the police station, while the rest conducted a top-to-bottom search of the Underwood house.

And they certainly found plenty of things hidden in every corner.

"Alright, let’s go. With all this, convicting Mr. Gary and the others will be much easier." Sean Hughes rubbed his temples, a headache forming as he looked at the evidence filling the entire living room.

He had thought there wouldn’t be much, but the search turned up a lot of "goodies."

’Great,’ he thought. ’It’s not just our precinct that’s going to be working overtime now. Even Zoe Sawyer and her team will have to pull extra shifts.’

Soon, Sean Hughes’s team cordoned off the Underwood Family’s house, left officers to stand guard, and returned to the station with the evidence.

This was because Zoe Sawyer, through her "door," had overheard them talking about a route they had been operating for many years.

The two men had been sent to pick up Ms. Yorke and leave via that hidden route.

In other words, these two men knew the route very well!

Before their boss could react, as soon as he returned to the station, Sean Hughes began interrogating the two men.

However, the fact that they’d been dispatched for the pickup and given orders to retreat at a moment’s notice meant they were competent, low-level leaders. Getting information out of them wouldn’t be easy.

Sean Hughes and his officers took turns interrogating them for three hours, but got nothing.

With no other option, the team turned their attention to Ms. Yorke, who had just regained consciousness.

The moment Ms. Yorke opened her eyes, she saw Sean Hughes and two other police officers sitting in front of her.

Her heart jumped. She tried to move, only to find her hands cuffed to the table.

"What are you doing? Are you telling me the police can just break into a private residence in broad daylight, assault an ordinary citizen, and drag me to the station?

Let me tell you, I have a weak constitution; I can’t handle stress! If you cause me to have an episode, I’ll sue you, even if I have to bankrupt myself to do it!" Seeing the police, Ms. Yorke instantly knew where she was and decided to launch a preemptive strike.

’She was betting that while the police knew Gary Dawson had committed a crime, they wouldn’t be able to find any hard evidence on such short notice.’

’If she could just stall for enough time, her father would find out and definitely send someone to get her out!’

’Or maybe she could fake a heart attack right now? That might even get these cops to send her to the hospital.’

’Once she was at the hospital, she’d have plenty of opportunities to escape!’

But the scene Ms. Yorke had envisioned—of the police frowning and growing nervous at her words—never happened.

Sean Hughes remained calm. He looked at Ms. Yorke, seated across from him, and pushed photos toward her—images of the rescued children and the evidence that had filled the living room. Then he asked her an unexpected question: "Do you know how long it took us, from the moment we arrived at your gate to the moment we arrested everyone and found all this?"

"How long?" Ms. Yorke looked blank, an uneasy feeling creeping into her heart.

"About forty minutes," Sean Hughes replied, an answer that made Ms. Yorke’s eyes widen in furious disbelief.

’It would take more than an hour just to search the whole house, let alone find all that evidence.’

"Tell me, if we didn’t have prior knowledge of the situation, how could our actions have been so precise? How could we have uncovered every single suspicious item?

And how do you suppose we, the police, got our information?" Sean Hughes deliberately kept his words vague, his hands not stopping as he pushed the evidence photos closer to Ms. Yorke.

Staring at the items in the photos, Ms. Yorke clenched her fists, her teeth grinding with rage.

’Almost every important thing she had hidden had been dug up by these cops.’

’Besides her, who else in the entire house would know?’

In the next second, Gary Dawson’s name surfaced in Ms. Yorke’s mind.

"Gary Dawson! It was Gary Dawson who told you where to find these things, wasn’t it!

Tell me! Was it Gary Dawson!" Ms. Yorke shot to her feet, only to be pulled back down into her seat a second later.

She was practically seething, spitting out Gary Dawson’s name through gritted teeth.

Sean Hughes was certain that if Mr. Gary were standing there right now, Ms. Yorke would have lunged at him and thrown a punch.

Faced with Ms. Yorke’s frantic expression and accusations, Sean Hughes just smiled faintly and said nothing, offering no answer to her question.

In truth, Zoe Sawyer had found all this while waiting, using her "door" and pushing her speed to its absolute limit.

’But could he really tell her that?’
