Chapter 263: Deadborn squads

Nova wasn’t that surprised by the description, as he already knew this was going to happen. The five-times recovery rate had become ten times, which was great, as he was going to be using large mana and Stamina consuming skills on a daily basis.

His regeneration had also improved. With that, Nova now had two improved skills. He then checked the rest of his abilities. His resistances were growing, but he needed more harsh environments for them to improve more quickly.

After that, Nova decided to turn his attention to his Deadborns. He stood up, and as Liya saw his intent, she got up from his lap and let him go.

With that, Nova called out all his Deadborns—Moonclaw, Dragon, Voidwing, Alpha, Gamma, and the others.

They all appeared one by one and bowed in front of their Monarch. Nova then took out the bodies of seven Level 1 Emperors and one Level 4 Emperor.

Although the latter had been captured and its body destroyed by Nyxara, Nova had completely destroyed its soul, killing it himself so that it would count as his kill. If he hadn’t killed it himself, he wouldn’t have been able to turn it into a Deadborn.

One thing had to be considered: when Nova kills a being or even destroyes its soul, that didn’t mean it completely disappeares. Nova’s class consumes their souls, and if Nova has the being’s body, he could still turn them into Deadborns.

It wasn’t the case that destroying the soul meant he couldn’t turn them into Deadborns. His class would consume the soul, but he still needed to kill the being completely for it to be turned into a Deadborn.

Beings above the Emperor Realm could even remain alive in soul form until they created a new body for themselves.

Coming back, Nova began turning all of them into Deadborns. Now that he was an Emperor and his class level had increased, he could easily turn Emperor-level beings into his Deadborns.

With that, seven Level 1 Emperors and one Level 4 Emperor stood up once again. Their bodies looked taller and more muscular.

Some had horns, while others had elf-like ears. They were all hybrids, though not all of them looked the same. All of them had shadowy-black swirling bodies, with purple patterns covering them, similar to his other Deadborns.

"WE GREET OUR LORD!"

All of them bowed down and greeted Nova in unison.

Nova looked pleased as he saw his new Deadborns. He then looked at one of the Level 1 Emperors and called out, "You, come here."

The Deadborn instantly followed its Lord’s command and came forward. Nova then turned toward Moonclaw and said, "Moonclaw, consume this guy and become an Emperor as well."

Moonclaw instantly followed his Lord’s command. The Deadborn had no problem with it. His Lord’s command was absolute.

As Moonclaw started consuming the Level 1 Emperor Deadborn, Nova turned toward the several new Deadborns who were hybrids and said, "I’ll not be naming you all one by one, and the reason is that I’m bad at naming someone. Besides, I have something different in mind."

Liya knew what Nova had in mind as she watched him from behind. Soon, she heard Rieka and the others’ voices. They had woken up and were calling for her, asking her to clean them.

Liya told them they didn’t have to ask her anymore. Since the System had been upgraded, if they wanted to clean themselves, they could simply think about it.

They all understood, and it was convenient. Of course, she didn’t tell Nova about this since she wanted him to ask her every time instead of doing it himself. However, she knew he would soon find out.

Nova felt that the others had woken up. He turned back to the Deadborns and said, "You all will be called the Hybrid Squad."

Nova then looked at the Level 4 Emperor and said, "Since you’re the strongest here, I’ll give you the privilege of being called Hybrid One."

"I thank my Lord for such a privilege."

Hybrid One bowed once again. Nova nodded, pleased to hear his words.

He then turned to the other Level 1 Emperor Deadborns and named them Hybrid Two, Hybrid Three, all the way to Hybrid Seven.

They all thanked Nova again, and Nova continued, "You will also increase your numbers. I have a feeling we’ll be fighting the Eclipse Order soon, so your numbers will increase, and your squad will get bigger and bigger."

"We understand, my Lord," they all said in unison.

Although Nova had said he wanted to build his legion, he had initially thought that having a large army would be a pain. But then he realized he could protect his family whenever he wanted.

But when he fought powerful opponents and went all out, he wouldn’t be able to think about protecting others or civilians. His Deadborns could protect them in his place, allowing him to focus entirely on his fights.

With that, he decided to grow his army. He would make multiple squads, and he himself is their Lord—their Monarch. However, he would give each squad a commander.

Although he could only make one commander now, he knew that once he raised his class level, he would be able to create more commanders, as his class was designed that way.

It was almost as if it knew Nova would eventually create a massive army.

He could also notice that as they grew stronger, their intelligence was growing as well. They could now think independently and make decisions without his help.

Boom!

Suddenly, a powerful aura burst out, attracting Nova’s attention. Nova looked over and saw that Moonclaw had finally broken through to Level 1 Emperor.

Although a normal being would have needed a considerable amount of time to break through to the Emperor Realm, just as Nova had earlier due to the immense power gap, the same law did not apply to Deadborns.

Deadborns could rapidly increase their strength when their Monarch allowed them to consume other high-level Deadborns, allowing them to advance through the realms in a remarkably short amount of time.

Nova’s eyes widened as he saw Moonclaw growing in size, its aura growing along with it. The dense chaotic aura radiating from it was overwhelming, making even Hybrid One slightly nervous.

Soon, Rieka, Asia, and Nyxara also came out. They appeared beside Nova, and their attention was immediately grabbed by the colossal wolf and its dense chaotic aura.

They instantly recognized it as the aura Nova used, and they knew it was only because of Moonclaw that he had gained the Chaos Affinity.

Of course, Rieka had already shared her story with her sisters about how she met Nova, what happened in the dungeon, and the rest of her experiences with him.

But seeing the colossal wolf now, it looked completely different and far more menacing than the wolf they had seen previously.

Finally, Moonclaw stopped growing after reaching a height of 90 meters, making it almost as tall as a young dragon.

Drago and Voidwing saw Moonclaw and immediately felt the urge to fight it.

Nova noticed their intent and smiled lightly.

"Look, the doggy has grown so big!" Nyxara said in amazement.

"ROAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!"

Moonclaw suddenly let out a thunderous roar.

Fortunately, they were inside the System Space, or the entire capital would have heard the deafening roar.

Nova smiled and turned toward Nyxara, lovingly patting her head as he said, "Don’t call him doggy, honey. Moonclaw doesn’t like it... He’s a wolf."

"Hmm, then why does he roar instead of howl?" Nyxara asked.

"Why do you call him doggy then? Dogs don’t roar; they bark," Asia interjected.

"Sigh... I don’t know, but he’s not a simple wolf. His species isn’t from this world. Since my first quest was unique, he might have been brought from another world."

All the women nodded in understanding as they heard Nova’s words. It sounded logical, and besides, a roar was much more powerful than a howl, so they didn’t complain.

Moonclaw then lowered his head to the ground and spoke for the first time after becoming a Deadborn.

"I thank my Lord... for making me stronger."

"Hmm... I’m glad you’re pleased, Moonclaw," Nova said with a smile.

After that, Moonclaw raised its head. Under everyone’s stunned eyes, its body began shrinking rapidly until it became the size of a human. Its body then started taking on a humanoid shape.
