My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 448: An Old Man More Shameless Than Him [Part 1]
Lugh watched as his forces destroyed one enemy camp after another.
But that didn't mean annihilation.
He had never been fond of senseless killing, so he had his men spare those who surrendered.
Besides, they had gained enough. Their blitzkrieg attack not only obliterated the fortress the Vermillion Bird General had protected for years, it also allowed them to push deeper into the Kingdom of Britannia's northern region.
Most of the Britannian lords participated in the campaign in the Borderlands, leaving only their sons and temporary heirs to manage their territory.
These temporary figureheads had never personally experienced the ravages of war, for they had grown spoiled in the greenhouse all their lives.
So, when Lugh and his Wyvern Riders invaded their domain, their resistance fell apart like a house made of cards.
Lugh believed these heirs made great hostages, so he had his men take them back to the Helion Duchy.
On the other hand, he pushed deeper into the Kingdom of Britannia, planning to fight his way through the royal capital.
Naturally, he couldn't possibly bring all of his people with him. That would be impossible.
Since Andreas was the current Patriarch of the Helion Family, Lugh asked him to handle the aftermath.
He then took twelve Wyvern Riders with him, forming a small elite force that flew as far as they could for the next two days.
Lugh flew hard, but made sure his men were properly rested and fed. The same went for his dragon, as well as the wyverns accompanying them.
They stayed away from cities and towns if they had to, ensuring that people wouldn't notice their existence.
After all, this was more of a surprise attack. He knew that the King of Britannia would be sending his force to deal with the invasion on two fronts.
With this in mind, Lugh knew that the royal capital would have less guards to protect it. But he wasn't naive.
The Kingdom of Britannia had an absolute powerhouse.
Someone who was extremely strong. However, he hadn't shown himself for a few years since his battle against the Great Shaman of the Borderlands, Gundar.
According to Lugh's information network, the great shaman had managed to injure his opponent, forcing the latter to flee for his life.
Lugh's goal was to see if this powerhouse had fully recovered his strength.
Despite his old age, Lugh was actually the strongest warrior in the Radiant Empire.
Needless to say, he was an absolute powerhouse.
Even stronger than the Monster King that Leone had faced.
In fact, the reason why Lugh was hailed as a hero was because he single-handedly defeated an Elder Dragon, who thought it could move unhindered across the Radiant Empire.
This was also why Lord Azar felt immense pressure when he faced Lugh during their first meeting. He could tell at a glance that the person in front of him had killed a Dragon, branding him as a Dragon Slayer.
"Is that the capital city, My Lord?" one of the Wyvern Riders asked.
"Yes." Lugh nodded. "Although it's not as grand as the capital of the Radiant Empire, it's still impressive in its own way," Lugh replied with a smile.
Soon, the sound of bells spread through the entire city as the guards on the ramparts sounded the alarm, informing everyone that enemies had reached the capital.
The King, who had just finished eating lunch, couldn't believe the report he just heard.
"What?!" King Augustus gasped in shock. "The enemies have reached the capital?! How did they do it?!"
The White Tiger General's army departed northward a day ago. The enemy should still be in the northern regions, so he couldn't believe that they had already arrived so fast.
He immediately ruled out the possibility that the White Tiger General had been defeated. To him, this was impossible. And even if it did happen, he would have known about it first!
"Your Majesty, according to the reports, the one leading them is a Dragon Rider," the Prime Minister stated. "The rest are Wyvern Riders. Since they're here so soon, they must've focused on flying straight to the capital city."
King Augustus clenched his teeth as he stormed out of his castle, wanting to see just which bastard had dared to challenge his domain.
Even now, he was still frustrated with the Radiant Empire for invading despite the agreement that both parties had signed.
When he exited the main door of the castle, he saw the magical shields already activated.
He half-expected to see black smoke all over the city as flames of destruction ravaged the capital.
But he didn't see any of that.
King Augustus shifted his attention toward the arrogant man riding on the back of a White Dragon.
He knew only one person who rode a White Dragon, and it made him curse his name out loud.
"You old dog of the Radiant Empire!" King Augustus shouted. "What do you think you're doing?! Don't you know that your King and I have signed a non-aggression pact?!"
"A non-aggression pact?" Lugh replied with a sneer. "What nonsense. I haven't been told about any agreement like that."
Of course, Lugh knew about the non-aggression pact. But since he wasn't directly told about it, he could simply say he didn't know about any signed agreement whatsoever!
"Y-You!" King Augustus was so angry that all he could do was point at the old man who had thrown his carefully laid-out military campaign into ruin!
He had been forced to recall his troops in order to defend their kingdom from the invaders.
However, his two generals couldn't return in time because the teleportation gates at the southern regions had been destroyed.
When Augustus heard about it, he almost ordered for the messenger's execution to relieve his anger and frustration.
And now, one of the masterminds behind his grief looked down at him from the sky, making him feel aggrieved.
"You're already this old, and yet you still cling to your crown?" Lugh scoffed. "No wonder your kingdom has become stagnant. An old cow is still monopolizing the fresh grass, preventing the younger ones from grazing. How pathetic!"
"Enough!" King Augustus roared in anger. "What do you want?! Why have you come here?!"
"I came all the way here to destroy your castle," Lugh said as if this was a completely normal thing to say. "How about you try and stop me?"
But before the King could even reply, a voice filled with arrogance suddenly echoed through the surroundings.
"You've traveled far, Dragon Slayer. Did you come here to die?"
Lugh narrowed his eyes as he shifted his attention toward another old man dressed in black robes.
The old man stood calmly with his hands clasped behind his back, his expression completely devoid of fear as he stood on the highest tower of the palace.
"So you're still alive, you old toad." Lugh chuckled. "I thought you'd already croaked long ago."
"Rubbish," the Guardian of the Kingdom of Britannia, Samuel Vi Britannia, replied. "The one who is going to croak here is you, Lugh the Dragon Slayer."
The Guardian said the last part with so much sarcasm that the Wyvern Riders glared back at him from behind their Master.
The two powerhouse then stared at each other for it had been a while since the two of them had met many years ago.
Both knew how dangerous the other was, and the one who would make the first move would definitely be the one who was more confident between the two of them.
