My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 447: Turning War Into Opportunity
"Looks like you slept well," Daedalus told Leone as soon as the young man left his room.
The grimoire then strapped itself back onto the young man’s waist, unwilling to risk the chance of someone seeing it if it weren’t careful.
"Did they leave just as planned?" Leone asked, referring to the retreat of the Britannian Army from the Borderlands.
"They did," Daedalus replied. "Not only that, Blitz and Hassan also destroyed the teleportation gates in Stoneguard Fortress, as well as the teleportation gates in the nearest cities. Those two generals will be traveling for at least a week to reach the capital city."
"What?" Leone blinked. "So many important things happened while I was sleeping? Why didn’t you wake me up?"
"What good would it do to wake you up?" Daedalus asked back in a teasing tone. "It’s not like you could join the battle. Your warriors won’t allow it."
Leone pondered for a bit before realizing that the grimoire was right. He couldn’t have done anything but watch the retreat of the Britannian Army.
Suddenly, he heard a *squeak* from above him.
Blitz landed on the ground and struck a superhero pose Daedalus had taught it out of fun.
The corner of Leone’s lips twitched at the sight. However, when he saw Blitz looking up at him as if wanting to be praised, the young man crouched down and patted its head.
"You did amazing, Blitz," Leone said. "Daedalus told me how hard you worked last night."
*Squeak!* Blitz enjoyed Leone’s praise and head pat, making it feel like everything it had done was worth it.
"Well then. What is our next move?" Daedalus asked since it believed that their mission was about to be completed.
There were only two days remaining, but Leone didn’t plan to take chances. That being so, it was best to prepare for the next war that would take place in Eden.
Leone swapped places with his clone from time to time to better understand the situation there.
According to Kael and Ulric, the scouts had already confirmed that the army of the Aurelion Empire had started their march.
It would take them at least ten days to reach Eden.
If the warriors of the Kingdom of Britannia hadn’t been delayed, they might have also arrived at Eden by that time.
"For now, we stay here and make sure the Kingdom of Britannia doesn’t change its mind," Leone replied. "I don’t want to lower my guard until the mission is complete."
"A wise choice." Daedalus was satisfied with Leone’s reply. "Arrogance blinds even the strongest. The moment you believe victory is assured is when defeat begins."
Leone smiled faintly before picking up Blitz so that they could have breakfast together.
"Blitz, later, I will ask you to go to Stoneguard Fortress," Leone said. "I want to know what is happening there. Father is outside of my communication range and I don’t think we can talk anytime soon."
Now that the Kingdom of Britannia was being invaded, all the nobles had to rally their armies in order to push back the invaders.
And since his father was a Viscount, he was dutybound to also head to the battlefield.
However, Leone hoped that the King of Britannia would send out negotiators to the Helion Family, as well as the Barbarian King of the West, to stop their advance in exchange for reparations.
It was then that Leone suddenly had an idea.
’I need to go back to the Aslan Tribe after breakfast,’ Leone thought.
He planned to use the magic circle to teleport to the Helion Family and pass on an important message to his great-grandfather.
If all went well, then he might unexpectedly gain a lot from this short skirmish with the Britannian Army.
His gaze then drifted off in the distance where the Gryphons had gathered.
As if sensing his gaze, Zephira looked back in his direction and gave him a glare.
Clearly, the Royal Gryphon still held a grudge against Leone for forcing it to leave its Master.
Despite her glare, Leone only smiled faintly.
An hour later, the young chieftain took to the skies riding on Arion’s back.
Aria was riding with him, while Yuni rode on Astravor’s back.
Behind them, all three hundred Gryphons of the Gryphon Battalion flew in battle formation.
At their center was the Flying Tiger, which was forced into a magical contract with Daedalus.
Leone decided to bring them to the Aslan Tribe and let them rest there for a while.
As for the rest of his elite forces, they were tasked to re-occupy the first fortress they had abandoned and use it as an outpost to ensure that no further invasion would be coming from the north.
Daedalus assured Leone that the fortress wasn’t tampered with and there was no hidden danger in reclaiming it.
A few hours later, Leone landed back safely on Grimjaw Mountain.
Boris was overjoyed when it saw Astravor return. It then tried to hug the Garuda Gryphon, who immediately dodged to the side.
"Boris, listen to me," Astravor said in a serious tone. "These Gryphons are guests, so don’t bully them, okay?"
Boris glanced at the Gryphons in response, raising its head arrogantly.
It was as if it was telling them that it was only second to Astravor when it came to the hierarchy of ranks in Grimjaw Mountain.
Zephira and the other Gryphons weren’t the least bit intimidated. In fact, they even glared back at the arrogant Drake Sovereign, making Boris flinch.
Sure, it was stronger than them individually. However, it couldn’t possibly win against Zephira, a Rank 5 monster, plus the nearly three hundred Rank 4 monsters under her command.
If Boris were to even annoy the already frustrated Gryphons, they might just vent their frustrations on the Drake Sovereign and peck it to death.
Intimidated by their gazes, Boris shifted its attention to the odd one in the group.
A Rank 5 Flying Tiger that looked very out of place.
Boris growled and pointed at the Flying Tiger, asking Astravor, "Who is this guy?"
"Him?" Astravor smirked in amusement. "He is your new toy."
The moment it heard the words "new toy", Boris immediately walked up to the Flying Tiger and pressed its claws on its head, forcing it to bow in its presence.
The Flying Tiger was already very frustrated, bottling its anger all this time. It wanted to vent, but it realized that this annoying Drake Sovereign was actually stronger than it!
Faced with no choice, the Flying Tiger could only obey.
Finding its new pet obedient, a happy Boris patted its head and told it that it would take care of it very well.
And on that day, Boris had gained a personal subordinate, who would realize just how annoying its new Master was.
While the monsters were sorting out their ranks, Leone had already entered the underground tunnels.
His destination was none other than the Forgotten Temple.
Even though his Uncle and Great Grandpa were currently on the battlefield, there were still ways in which he could pass a message to them, and that was by talking to their butler, Jeeves.
They had already prepared a method of communication beforehand, especially during this important moment.
So, the moment he arrived inside the Dragon Nest, Jeeves was already alerted to his presence.
The two talked for a few minutes, after which Jeeves promised that he would pass the young man’s message word for word.
The butler was quite surprised by the young man’s request. But, since he was ordered by his employer to take Leone’s words seriously, he would ensure that the message would arrive as soon as possible.
"Would you like to talk to your great-grandmother?" Jeeves asked. "She told me that if there was an opportunity, she would like to talk to you."
Leone hesitated since he never had the opportunity to talk to his great-grandmother before.
Thinking that this might be a good time to see each other, he agreed on the condition that Jeeves prioritized sending the message to his great-grandfather first.
"Then I’ll ask her to meet you in two hours," Jeeves said calmly. "Is that acceptable?"
"Yes." Leone nodded. "I’ll be back in two hours, then."
After bidding goodbye, the young man returned to Grimjaw Mountain. He then temporarily swapped places with his clone, who was in Eden.
Now that the immediate threat of the Britannian Army was dealt with, he wanted to better understand the current situation within the fortress city.
The news of the Aurelion Empire’s advance simply confirmed the warning that Leone had given to the barbarians.
And with his words verified by their own warriors, all the tribes in Eden made their preparations to defend their "Holy Land" against those who wished to invade their domain.
