My Kingdom Building Done Right!
Chapter 446: The Demolition Experts
"What do you mean the teleportation gate has been destroyed?!" Duran roared in anger at the Commander of the Stoneguard Fortress, Armand.
He and Vogel had traveled long and hard, leaving their men behind just to return to the capital city of the Kingdom of Britannia as soon as possible.
They wanted to join the Blue Dragon General, and the White Tiger General in driving off the invaders from their lands.
As soon as they arrived at the fortress, they immediately ordered Armand to open the teleportation gate right away.
However, the Commander’s reply almost made Duran punch him in a fit of anger.
"We heard an explosion an hour ago, but when we investigated where the sound came from," Armand replied, doing his best to keep his own anger from flaring up. "We saw the teleportation gate completely obliterated. It looked like a magic bomb had been detonated on the spot."
While Astravor and Lord Azar were trying to delay the generals from reaching the city, Hassan, who was hiding in Blitz’s shadow, told the squirrel that they should head to Stoneguard Fortress as soon as possible.
The flying squirrel didn’t understand right away why they needed to go to that place when the battle was being waged at the gorge.
However, its partner in crime said that if they went to the Stoneguard Fortress right now, Leone would praise Blitz for doing a job well done!
Blitz was a simple flying squirrel.
As long as it could be praised for doing something good, it would do its best without fail.
And so, Leone’s fastest vassal turned into a bolt of lightning and streaked across the sky, traveling a great distance in the blink of an eye.
Of course, this ability had limitations. Still, it was more than enough for them to reach their destination faster than the two generals, who were still fighting against their allies.
Since Blitz and Hassan had already infiltrated the Stoneguard Fortress in the past and explored its every nook and cranny, the assassin remembered the teleportation gate’s location.
He knew about Leone’s plan since he had been there when he suggested this move to the Helion Family.
And now that the plan was in motion, Hassan believed that the longer it took for the two generals to return to their post, the more chaotic the Kingdom of Britannia would become.
As such, he made it his top priority to destroy the teleportation gate.
As soon as they arrived, Hassan immediately took out magic bombs that could be detonated in a set amount of time.
No guards had been stationed by the teleportation gate, so the two didn’t have any trouble completing their mission.
When Hassan deemed that enough bombs had been planted, he then told Blitz to head to the citadel of the fortress.
That was the place where the fortress’ commander, Armand, stayed.
However, their purpose for going there wasn’t to assassinate the commander. No, they planned to use the explosion as a distraction to rob their treasury!
A few minutes after the two left the scene, a loud explosion echoed throughout the fortress. Everyone who was sleeping was immediately jolted awake, wondering what just happened.
Armand had also been woken from his deep slumber. In fact, the commander even fell off his bed then scrambled to open his window, rushing to check if the fortress was under attack!
It was then that he saw flames rising in the distance. When he realized where the flames were coming from, the commander’s face turned pale as he hurried to wear his clothes.
In less than two minutes, Armand was already sprinting through the hallways of the citadel, shouting orders to his guards.
With everyone leaving the fortress, Blitz and Hassan entered through a window without any difficulty.
Hassan had also investigated the citadel in the past, so he already knew the treasury’s location.
Two guards protected the doors leading to it, but Hassan and Blitz made short work of them.
There was no killing, and they were simply knocked unconscious.
When they entered the treasury, they didn’t see any mountains of gold.
Instead, they saw artifacts like weapons, armors, and a few storage rings.
Hassan picked up one of the storage rings and then grinned evilly.
It was filled to the brim with gold coins, so he made sure to take all of them inside his pocket.
*Squeak?* Blitz asked, pointing to the sword that was on display in front of it.
"Yes, we’ll also take those weapons and armors," Hassan replied. "We’ll take everything. It’s quite unfortunate that Daedalus isn’t here. Some of these artifacts cannot be stored inside storage rings."
Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice from behind him.
"You called?"
The grimoire hovered right above Blitz, as if waiting for that moment to announce its presence.
"How did you get here?" Hassan asked.
"That’s one of my trade secrets," Daedalus replied before turning around to check the treasured weapons and armors inside the treasury. "Hmm... most are Rare and Super Rare grades. Oh? A Unique Armor. Not too shabby, but not that good either. Well, better than nothing I suppose."
Without another word, Daedalus opened its pages and sucked out everything inside the treasury, making sure not to leave anything behind.
When it was done, it then turned to Hassan and asked him a question.
"Where is the nearest place with a teleportation gate?" Daedalus asked in a serious tone.
"About a hundred miles or so to the north," Hassan answered. "Why?"
"Let’s destroy that too," Daedalus stated. "In fact, let’s destroy as many teleportation gates as possible."
Hassan and Blitz glanced at each other in response. They then nodded at the same time because this was indeed a good plan.
After Hassan merged with Blitz’s shadow, the flying squirrel once again used its ability and transformed into a streak of lightning.
To Blitz’s surprise, Daedalus kept up with its speed.
Little did it know that Daedalus was connected to all of Leone’s vassals and could instantly teleport to their location. However, it could only teleport by itself, unable to bring others with it.
And so, the three demolition experts destroyed one teleportation gate after another.
Armand even gave the two generals two fresh, fast horses that would keep up with the hard ride that was waiting for them.
Left with no choice, the two could only grit their teeth as they traveled through the night.
However, they had no idea that at their destination, only another round of disappointment and frustration awaited them.
