Chapter 106: Chapter 106: The Girl with Sunglasses

Chapter 106: The Girl in Sunglasses

Ye Xing made his way to the back of Building 18. Looking up, he saw the lights were on in unit 501—someone was definitely home.

After a quick glance around confirmed no one was coming, Ye Xing’s expression hardened. He pulled a black cloth from his pocket, which he’d prepared earlier, and tied it over his face. Then, circulating his True Qi, he executed the Lightweight Step Technique: Wind Shadow Step.

With a light push off the ground, he soared into the air like a bird, clearing three or four meters in a single leap. His hands caught the second-floor windowsill. With another burst of strength, he launched himself up again to the third floor. After repeating this two or three more times, Ye Xing finally reached the fifth-floor bedroom window and peered inside.

Ye Xing was now a Martial Artist at the Martial Arts Second Realm Peak, nearing the Martial Arts Third Realm. His Lightweight Skill had improved significantly, and his Cultivation of the Earth Tier Lightweight Skill, Wind Shadow Step, had reached the Entry Level, approaching Minor Achievement. For him, scaling a five or six-story building was a trivial matter.

Looking into the room from the fifth-floor windowsill, he saw the bedroom was empty.

Instead, he heard sounds coming from the living room. Ye Xing immediately slipped into the room and moved toward the living room.

In the living room, a man in his fifties or sixties was on top of a woman in her thirties. Their clothes were half-undone as they kissed wildly.

As Ye Xing stepped into the living room, the sound of his footsteps broke the air.

The older man was kissing the woman so fervently that he hadn’t noticed Ye Xing. The woman pinned beneath him, however, saw Ye Xing first. Just as she was about to scream, Ye Xing chopped the side of her neck, knocking her unconscious.

The man, jolted from his passion, scrambled off the woman and fled in terror toward the door.

Using Wind Shadow Step, Ye Xing flickered and instantly appeared in the old man’s path. With a flick of his wrist, a fruit knife materialized in his hand.

"Who are you? Don’t kill me! Is this a home invasion? How much money do you want? I’ll give it to you, just don’t kill me!" The man looked terrified as he kept backing away. He’d heard plenty of stories about home invasions ending in murder and was naturally scared to death. He was also baffled—he was on the fifth floor, and the front door was securely locked. ’How in the world did this young man get in?’

"I’m not short on money." A smile touched the corner of Ye Xing’s mouth. "Don’t be nervous. Come on, sit down. Let’s have a nice chat."

"You don’t need money? Then what do you want? You... what is there to talk about?" The man calmed down a little. On closer inspection, the young man didn’t seem like a home invader. Most robbers were in a rush, getting straight to the point and demanding money. This one, however, seemed completely at ease, almost leisurely.

"You’re Sun Mingsheng, right? The boss of Mingsheng Group," Ye Xing said.

"Yes!" A flicker of confusion passed through Sun Mingsheng’s eyes. "If you’re not here to rob me, then what do you want?"

"My name is Ye Xing. You should know who I am." Ye Xing toyed with the fruit knife in his hand.

The color drained from Sun Mingsheng’s face. "You... Young man, don’t be rash! You’ll pay for murder with your life! You... Don’t do anything crazy! Whatever it is, we can discuss it!"

"Discuss? You’ve already come after me. How exactly do you suggest we ’discuss’ this? Go on, I’m listening," Ye Xing said.

"How about you sell me the grass carp feed formula? Ten million, what do you think?" Sun Mingsheng said, an idea flashing in his eyes.

"Heh, forget it. I’m done wasting my breath on you!" Ye Xing moved, grabbing Sun Mingsheng by the throat and silencing him. He then uncapped a small glass vial. A wisp of pale pink gas drifted out and was quickly inhaled by Sun Mingsheng.

The pale pink gas was called Enchanting Powder. Anyone who inhaled it would fall into a daze for a while, compelled to answer any question asked of them—an effect similar to hypnosis.

"What is your name?"

"Sun Mingsheng."

"Where do you live?"

"Shengshi High-end Villa District."

"Then what about this place, Rongxing District?"

"It’s another house I bought on a whim, to keep Meimei."

"You used meat from diseased pigs to make your pork floss cakes before, right?"

"Yes, diseased pork is cheap. It saves on costs, so I can make a lot more money!"

"Tell me everything, in detail," Ye Xing commanded. "All of your illegal, money-making schemes. And name everyone who was involved."

With drooping eyelids and lifeless eyes, Sun Mingsheng began to speak, recounting everything in a monotone voice.

Ye Xing took out his phone and started recording audio and video.

Twenty to thirty minutes later, the recording was done. Everything was settled.

’This Sun Mingsheng is a truly crooked businessman, squeezing every penny of cost to make more money. What he’s confessed to is enough to land him in prison for over a decade.’ Ye Xing put away his phone and left Rongxing District.

All Ye Xing had to do now was get this recording to the police. It laid out everything. With this trail to follow, it would be easy for them to uncover all of Sun Mingsheng’s crimes.

The night was ink-black, with cars streaming by on the road.

’Phew. After our get-together tomorrow, I can head back to Luoxian County. Three days should have been enough time for the Great River Gang to be assimilated. With them acting as my security force, my business on the Martial Arts Continent can really expand.’ Ye Xing was plotting out his future when his eyes suddenly darted forward. His expression changed in an instant as he unleashed his Wind Shadow Step and shot ahead.

Up ahead, a girl in a face mask and sunglasses was staring at her phone as she ambled across the crosswalk. She was moving so slowly that the walk signal had already turned red, yet she remained completely oblivious to the large truck hurtling toward her.

SCREECH!

A piercing shriek of emergency brakes tore through the quiet night, drawing the attention of everyone on the road.

The girl in sunglasses snapped out of her daze, the color draining from her face in an instant. CLATTER. The phone slipped from her hand and hit the pavement. Her beautiful eyes were wide with terror.

Although the truck had slammed on its brakes, it was too close. Inertia carried it forward, and it continued to rocket toward the girl at high speed.

Many pedestrians nearby couldn’t bear to watch, shutting their eyes against the bloody tragedy about to unfold.

In that split second—

SWOOSH!

Suddenly, a figure blurred past at incredible speed, appearing beside the girl in the blink of an eye. He hooked his right arm around her pliant waist and pulled her forward two or three steps.

WHOOSH!

A powerful gust of wind kicked up as the truck scraped the clothes on their backs, skidding another three or four meters before finally coming to a halt in the middle of the intersection.

This sudden turn of events left many onlookers stunned.

"A crash, there’s been a crash! Someone call the police!"

"Huh? They seem to be okay, look over there!"
