Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Class Reunion

Many pedestrians on the sidewalk looked over to see a young man with his arm wrapped around the waist of a girl in a mask and sunglasses, having just pulled her to safety. The bloody scene they had imagined didn’t happen, and everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.

By now, the girl’s sunglasses had fallen to the ground, revealing a pair of beautiful, captivating eyes. Her inky pupils were staring blankly at Ye Xing.

"Don’t stare at your phone while you’re crossing the street. It’s too dangerous, you know? The light had already changed, but you were still in the middle of the road!" Ye Xing frowned and said in a low voice. ’Saving her was pure instinct. It was something I could do, a trivial effort, really. When I come across a situation where I can save a life, I’ll act.’

Just then, the truck driver scrambled down from his cab and rushed over, his forehead beaded with a nervous sweat. "I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry! Are you two alright? Is everything okay? I’m so sorry, I..."

"What good is ’sorry’ now? Why weren’t you paying attention? There was someone in the crosswalk, and you didn’t think to brake sooner? You were a split second away from taking a young life!" Ye Xing said icily. ’The situation was critical. I almost didn’t have time to save her. A truck that big has some serious weight and momentum.’

"I’m so sorry, I really am. I’m a damn idiot. I’ve been on the road for two days straight, and I drove all through last night. I was just so exhausted. I accidentally dozed off for a second, and by the time I opened my eyes, it was too late to brake. Sir, I am truly sorry." The truck driver apologized profusely, bowing repeatedly. "Did your girlfriend get hit at all? How about I take you both to the hospital for a check-up? I’m really so sorry. Please, I hope you can both forgive me!"

"Er, we’re not a couple. I don’t even have a girlfriend, so don’t make assumptions. I was just passing by and lent a hand," Ye Xing said to the truck driver. "She should be fine; I got to her in time. But you need to apologize to this young lady. This is between you two. I have to go." With that, Ye Xing turned and started walking away.

The truck driver immediately bowed low, apologizing to the girl. She finally snapped out of her daze, a spark of life returning to her vacant eyes.

"Hey, wait!" "Don’t go! Hey, stop!"

Ye Xing was already walking away when a clear, pleasant female voice called out from behind him. He turned and saw it was the girl he had just saved.

The girl had a delicate, well-proportioned figure. Her face was obscured by a mask, but her clear, inky eyes were fixed on Ye Xing as she called out to him.

"Er, you’re calling me? Do you need something?" Ye Xing asked.

"What... What’s your name?" she asked, hesitating for a moment.

"Eh? Why do you want my name?" Ye Xing asked, confused.

"I almost died. You saved me. I want to treat you to a meal to thank you! If you just tell me your name, I’ll be able to find you," the girl said.

"Oh, is that it? My name is Lei Feng. It was nothing, really, so you don’t need to thank me. I’ve got to go. Bye!" With that, Ye Xing turned and walked off briskly. ’It was just a simple act. Even though I saved a life, it didn’t take much effort. I’m really not looking for any kind of reward.’

’His name is Lei Feng... why does that name sound so familiar?’ The girl watched Ye Xing’s retreating figure, a strange, puzzled look in her beautiful eyes. She muttered to herself, ’Lei Feng? As in, *the* Lei Feng?!’

’Liar! He was totally messing with me. It’s so infuriating! Hmph, plenty of people would kill for a chance to be treated to dinner by me. And this guy... Fine, if he doesn’t want to come, then don’t come! Hmph! Liar!’ A flash of anger appeared in the girl’s beautiful eyes. With a complex expression, she stomped her foot in frustration, then turned and left.

...

Night in Fu City. The neon lights of towering skyscrapers flickered, bathing the city in a rainbow of colors and painting the night sky with a dream-like hue.

After returning to the Fuli Grand Hotel, Ye Xing focused on his Cultivation. He continued until the evening of the next day, when a call from his fourth brother, Zheng Yiming, came. Only then did he get in his Porsche and head for the Longwan Grand Restaurant.

His classmates had decided on Longwan Grand Restaurant in their group chat.

The meetup was scheduled for six in the evening. It was now about five-thirty, so he had plenty of time to get there.

Twenty minutes later, Ye Xing arrived at the Longwan Grand Restaurant. He found a parking spot, and after parking the car, he headed for the entrance.

The restaurant was sprawling and looked quite grand.

As Ye Xing approached the entrance of Longwan Grand Restaurant, he saw that several of his classmates were already waiting there. There were seven men and five women in total, all of whom had stayed in Fu City to work after graduation. His dorm’s "Eldest Brother," Lin Guishan, and "Fourth Brother," Zheng Yiming, were among them. Lin Guishan was now working as a copywriter at a private company, finally putting his degree to good use. Zheng Yiming, on the other hand, was a bit of a wild card. Despite majoring in literature, he’d jumped straight into the medical field after graduating. His grandfather was a veteran doctor of traditional Chinese medicine who had taught him since he was a child. And believe it or not, the kid actually knew his stuff. He had opened a small clinic in Fu City that was doing pretty well and had a good reputation.

A few other familiar faces were there too, including Faan Meixiang, Wang Zhiyun, and Peng Youliang.

"Third Brother, you finally made it!"

"Xingzai, you’re here at last."

"Ye Xing, long time no see!"

His classmates greeted him one after another.

"Haha, long time no see," Ye Xing chuckled. "Why is everyone standing out here? Aren’t we heading up?"

"We’re... we’re waiting for someone. We’ll go up together once everyone’s here," Lin Guishan, his Eldest Brother, stammered.

"Well, it’s almost six anyway. We should just head on up," Ye Xing said, his gaze falling on Lin Guishan. He noticed his Eldest Brother looked haggard and exhausted. He walked over, clapped him on the shoulder, and asked with concern, "Eldest Brother, how have you been? Fourth Brother said you were having some trouble at home. What’s going on? Do you need any help?"

"It’s nothing, just a small matter. It’s already been taken care of. That kid, Fourth Brother, just has a big mouth," said Lin Guishan.

The group waited a few more moments. Then, right at six o’clock, another classmate arrived fashionably late.

"Liu the Monkey, damn it, how do you always manage to show up right on the dot? You did this for class, and you’re still doing it for reunions!" his classmates at the entrance joked and chided.

"Hehe, it’s a habit. Hard to break! Besides, I’m not late. It’s exactly six o’clock—not a minute more, not a minute less. See? I’m punctual!" the classmate nicknamed ’Liu the Monkey’ said with a smug grin. "Alright, is everyone here now? We should head up."

"Nope, still missing one!"

"Who? Holy shit, someone’s actually later than me? Now *that’s* what I call being late!"

"Who else? Wei Junchao, of course!"

"I knew it. Man, Old Wei is something else, acting like such a big shot!"

"Oh well, it’s not often we all get together. Let’s just wait a bit longer."
