Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Windless Night

Ye Xing scrolled through his phone, glancing at the screen. He saw everyone was chatting idly about this and that, keeping the group chat lively. Ye Xing decided to pop in and say something too.

"Hey, Xingzai, you old lurker! It’s rare to see you surface," a classmate replied in the group.

"Yeah, it was getting stuffy down there, so I came up for air! By the way, are there any activities planned recently?" Ye Xing sent a smiley face emoji.

"There is! What a coincidence, everyone was just talking about having a get-together tomorrow or the day after. But it’s in Fu City, so you’re out of luck. It’s your own fault for running back to your hometown!"

"Haha, who told you guys I was in my hometown? I’m in Fu City right now!" Ye Xing’s fingers flew, TAP-TAP-TAP, as he typed a message into the QQ group chat and sent it.

"For real? Holy shit, then you have to come! It’ll probably be tomorrow evening. The location isn’t set yet; everyone’s still arguing over two places. We’ll let you know."

"Okay, no problem!" Ye Xing sent an OK emoji.

After chatting in the group for a little longer, he put his phone away and sat on the sofa to watch TV with little Erhei. The local entertainment news was on.

"Breaking news: The famous star Murong Feifei has arrived in Fu City..."

As Ye Xing was watching TV, the phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated and rang. He immediately took it out.

’It’s that kid, Old Fourth!’ Ye Xing swiped the screen and answered the call.

Ye Xing had three buddies from his college dorm, making four of them in total. The four were extremely close and had ranked themselves by age. The eldest, "Old First," was Lin Guishan, who had a rather honest and simple personality. "Old Second" was Xiao Lihong, who was a great talker and an expert bullshitter. Ye Xing himself was "Old Third," and "Old Fourth" was Zheng Yiming.

"Hey! Old Third, you came to Fu City without a word to anyone. That’s not cool! If I hadn’t seen the group chat, I wouldn’t have even known you were here." The complaining voice of Old Fourth, Zheng Yiming, came through the phone.

"Haha, I only just got to Fu City!" Ye Xing couldn’t help but laugh.

"Alright, you’re coming to the class reunion tomorrow, right?"

"Yeah, definitely. How have you, Old First, and Old Second been doing lately?"

"How else? I’m the same as always. By the way, I think something happened with Old First’s family," Zheng Yiming said over the phone.

"What happened?" Ye Xing asked.

"How should I know? I asked him, but he wouldn’t say. He’s a total clam."

...

After chatting with Old Fourth, Zheng Yiming, for nearly half an hour, he finally hung up.

Ye Xing took out a Pill Bottle, opened it, and poured out an Upper-grade Qi Nourishing Pill. He called out to little Erhei, "Erhei, open your mouth!" As he spoke, Ye Xing flicked the Qi Nourishing Pill in his hand. The pill traced an arc through the air as it flew toward little Erhei.

Qi Nourishing Pills were pale white Elixir Pills refined from various precious Spirit Medicines. They contained Heaven and Earth Primordial Qi and could accelerate one’s Cultivation speed when consumed. Qi Nourishing Pills were divided into three grades: Upper-grade, Middle-grade, and Low-grade. Low-grade Qi Nourishing Pills had a relatively high amount of dregs and other impurities, so one needed to spend time expelling them after consumption. Their effects were not very good, but some Martial Artists still used them due to their low price. While Middle-grade Qi Nourishing Pills still had impurities, there weren’t many, and their effects were quite good. Most Martial Artists on the Martial Arts Continent used Middle-grade Qi Nourishing Pills. The effects of Upper-grade Qi Nourishing Pills were naturally the best, but they were extremely expensive; only Martial Artists with powerful and wealthy backgrounds could afford them. The average Martial Artist would never be willing to spend so many Gold Coins on them. Ye Xing, however, had plenty of Gold Coins. He was never stingy when it came to resources like Elixirs needed for Cultivation, because strength was the most fundamental thing. If it meant he could rapidly increase his Cultivation, Ye Xing was willing to spend any amount of Gold Coins.

"WOOF WOOF!"

Little Erhei barked twice in excitement, hurriedly opening its jaws wide to catch the Upper-grade Qi Nourishing Pill Ye Xing had tossed, swallowing it down.

Qi Nourishing Pills contained the Essence of Heaven and Earth’s Primordial Qi, making them suitable not only for Martial Artists but also for the Cultivation of Demon Beasts. Martial Artists in the Qi Cultivation Stage, from the Martial Arts First Realm to the Third Realm, used Qi Nourishing Pills. Similarly, Level 1 to Level 3 Demon Beasts were also suited to consuming them. Little Erhei’s current Cultivation was that of a Level 1 Demon Beast, and it was currently pushing for the Second Realm. Naturally, Ye Xing gave it a Qi Nourishing Pill every day to help it cultivate faster.

He poured out another Qi Nourishing Pill and swallowed it. Then, Ye Xing sat cross-legged on the bed and began to cultivate.

He cultivated from morning all the way until seven in the evening.

’It’s almost dark. Time to make a move!’ A cold glint flashed in Ye Xing’s eyes. He immediately got up, walked out of his room, left the Fuli Grand Hotel, and headed toward Rongxing District.

Since it wasn’t far, Ye Xing didn’t bother driving and decided to walk instead.

Rongxing District was where one of Sun Mingsheng’s mistresses lived. Although Sun Mingsheng was over fifty, he was extremely lecherous and kept six or seven mistresses. The one in Rongxing District was his newest. According to the intelligence provided by Wu Qiang and the confession from Feng Jianhua, Ye Xing had learned that Sun Mingsheng had been spending almost every night at the Rongxing District apartment recently.

After about a twenty-minute walk, Ye Xing finally arrived at Rongxing District from the Fuli Grand Hotel.

The night was pitch-black and windless. A few dark clouds veiled the heavens, obscuring the light of the stars and moon and plunging the world into even deeper darkness.

Inside Rongxing District, residential buildings soared more than twenty stories high, standing like straight pillars throughout the complex. There were at least a dozen or two of them. Dim yellow streetlights faintly illuminated the weeds and trees in the flowerbeds along the road.

The night was always quiet, and it was a rare sight to see more than two or three pedestrians pass by.

Ye Xing continued forward, rounded two corners, and finally arrived at Building 18 of Rongxing District.

The apartment Sun Mingsheng had bought for his mistress was Unit 501 in Building 18 of Rongxing District. There was a good chance Sun Mingsheng was spending the night there—at least a sixty to seventy percent probability. The remaining thirty to forty percent chance was that he was with one of his other mistresses. If he wasn’t here, Ye Xing might have to make another trip or two.

Ye Xing went around to the back of Building 18 and looked up. He saw that the lights in Unit 501 were on; clearly, someone was home.

He glanced around and saw that no one was coming. With a shift in his gaze, Ye Xing took a black cloth he had prepared from his pocket and masked his face. Then, he gathered his True Qi and executed the Lightweight Step Technique, *Wind Shadow Step*.

With a light push from his feet, his entire body shot into the air like a bird, leaping three or four meters in a single bound. He lightly caught the ledge of the second-floor windowsill, then pushed off with his hands, using the momentum to propel himself upward again to the third-floor windowsill. After repeating this two or three times, Ye Xing finally reached the window of the fifth-floor bedroom and peered inside.
